GameStop suspending Xbox trade-ins starting Feb. 9

GameStop will no longer accept trade-ins on original Xbox games, systems, or accessories beginning Febuary 9, 2009. Although GameStop corporate wouldn't verify this information during its "quiet period" leading to Thursday's holiday sales report, several local shops confirmed the policy when we called. Employees were unaware if something similar would be implemented for PS2 or GameCube in the near future.

Those looking to unload their original Xbox and dozens of games for the whopping sum of $12.87 (that's just a guess), should head on down to GameStop before the deadline.

Better than 3.

Halo 3 level desing feels kind of lazy compared to Halo 2.Also it is the 3rd installment and still you can't drive the damn scarab.

Also that I feel the best Halo 3 maps are taken from Halo 2 except for Ghost Town,I like that one.

You thought the level design was better in 2? Almost every level took place in the very boring Covenant ships, the game was very clearly rushed.

The third game has far more interesting environments, design, locations and action sequences. The fights against the scarabs are simply epic. :p Makes the Scarab encounter in the second game look like a joke.

Everything about the third game was a *lot* better, but it's worth playing the second game if only for the story and to see the improvements the third made.

as a gamestop employee, all i can say is thank god. If another customer comes up to the register with 5 .99 cent xbox games which include madden 05 and MLB 05, i'd probably explode.

i still want the original black xbox with at least 1 duke controller. when i got my own i got the green halo edition with 2 s controllers. i wanted the blue one but it didn't come to the states

why the hell would you want that giant piece of plastic. the s controller was so much nice, it even looked prettier.

also, they shouldnt do this for all xbox games, just those crappy ones. i would still pay full price for my KOTOR games, and xmen legends? those games were sweet, with no backwards compatibility (xmen)

And this is one of the things I hate about GameStop. They refuse to stock pretty much anything that isn't cutting-edge, and yet they'll buy out anyone that does (see: Funcoland) and immediately impose these standards on them. Leaving me with eBay, and... um, that's it. Livable, certainly, but really, REALLY annoying.

Did they "buy out" anyone other than Funcoland that was carrying outdated stuff? Babbage's and Software Etc were focused on new stuff (God, I'm old) and EB was following virtually the same business model as GameStop.

BTW, does any still have that much interest in actively buying and trading Xbox games on a regular basis? If you haven't gotten around to those games yet, it is hard to imagine that you were ever going to anyway.

Rhino Games they bought out as well. We had one locally and it was a cool shop. They probably stocked more NES->DC games then they did new gen systems (GC,XB,PS2 at the time).

Play-N-Trade still stocks some older games but their selection, at least in the stores I've been to, has been really lacking.

Honestly, I never go to Gamestop.. they're a bunch of idiots. I have 3 Gamestops within a 10 mile radius, and each store is the same. I trade all of my games and systems at Blockbuster. They guarantee the highest buy back price, no matter what. They don't give cash, but I never trade for cash, just to get more games. I've traded there or years, and never stepped foot in a Gamestop.

I'm sure it wont be long before this is imposed in Australia as well, the upside is it's only a couple of years away now before my Original Xbox and game collection is considered vintage. Then all I have to do is find some Eccentric rich bugger who wants to buy it ;o)
