Microsoft requested 'Radiant Silvergun' XBLA remake, Treasure considering
There may soon be a way of picking up and playing Radiant Silvergun that doesn't involve second mortgages or selling plasma. Talking with Gamasutra, Treasure CEO Masato Maegawa revealed that Microsoft has approached the developer about giving the cult classic arcade and Saturn shmup a makeover for Xbox Live Arcade.
While you reattach your jaw, it's worth noting that Treasure has yet to say yes to the remake, with Maegawa expressing concern that unlike Ikaruga, which blasted its way onto XBLA in April 2008, much more work would have to be done to Radiant Silvergun before it was given the green light. "If you play Radiant Silvergun nowadays," noted the exec, "it's certainly aged in assorted ways, and I'm not sure they're all good." Honestly Treasure, you can have our Microsoft Points, spit polish or not. Anything to keep our precious bodily fluids to ourselves.

More Treasure is always nice...
Bangai-O Spirits is a very good game, and Sin and Pusnishment 2 is looking good too.
A Radiant Silvergun remake for the 360 would be very good idea.
Now, if only the could Treasure could release a remake or a new Mischief Makers, that would be awesome.

I'd buy a 360 for it.
Be cheaper than getting the actual game :P

I can see why Treasure would be reluctant if, as they claim, it did indeed not age gracefully. A remake or re-imagining is a good idea, I think.
Though I'm still waiting eagerly for Mischief Makers to get remade or hit the VC.

It'd be interesting if Microsoft or Sony start to release back catalog titles from older third party consoles similar to how Nintendo are with the Genesis/Mega Drive and Neo Geo.
samfish @ Jan 5th 2009 2:00PM
MS won't. They require all the XBLA games to be at least 720p, if I'm not mistaken. Apparently most companies don't consider it worth the money to release an old game on XBLA, with a handful of exceptions.
And sony...well..they have PS1 games on the PSN store, but you could practically count them on one hand. I don't think they're too interested in the whole retro gaming thing.

@Samfish
Depends on where you are looking... the Japanese and HK PSN stores have tons of PSOne games. It's a mystery to me why the rest of the regions don't get more of them.
Ghaleon @ Jan 5th 2009 1:46PM
Aged? It's the fucking best shooter ever made. Do iiiiit, Treasure. More people need to play it.
jynxycat @ Jan 5th 2009 2:00PM
Saying it's better than Ikaruga is saying a lot.
It's fun, but it's pretty basic. The sword component of the game being the only unique feature that sets it apart from something like Raiden or any other scrolling shooter.
That being said, a remake would be nice, but I'd agree with Treasure, I don't think it would do as well as their other shooter did.

This would be great. I hate hooking up the saturn to get radiant silvergun fix. Definate buy on my side. XBLA is really starting to add up on my wallet.
Dadidito @ Jan 5th 2009 1:54PM
Is it really that expensive to get. Ive had my copy since saturn days. How much could I get for it?
samfish @ Jan 5th 2009 1:56PM
Probably about $200, at least. They've gone as high as $500, though.
Dadidito @ Jan 5th 2009 3:01PM
Thanks for that. Definate food for thought...
usagi704 @ Jan 5th 2009 5:14PM
I got my copy of RS for $170 complete in 2007. I'd say about $200 is the average it goes for.
J.Goodwin @ Jan 5th 2009 1:56PM
Have this for Saturn (bought it before the hype, apparently, because I paid Japanese retail). Excellent excellent game. Highly recommended, two thumbs up.
Danny F. @ Jan 5th 2009 2:45PM
I wouldn't mind a Gunstar Heroes HD remake either ^_^...
Metal Gear!? @ Jan 5th 2009 2:48PM
Never played this game, but wouldn't be against trying it. I'm really not a Treasure fan in the slightest. I've played Gunstar Heroes(fun game), McDonald's Treasureland Adventure, Dynamite Headdy(thought it was horrible),Mischief Makers(also sucked), Ikaruga(didn't care for), and Wario World(fun but short). I don't understand the love affair, but whatever, it doesn't bother me any.
Rooster752 @ Jan 5th 2009 2:49PM
there goes 1200 MS points.
CaptainProtonX @ Jan 5th 2009 3:15PM
It's an orgasm of bullets, strategy, shooting, and fucking great anime infusion on the Saturn.
This can't be understated. This is the greatest REAL (before shooter meant "FPS") shooter. And frankly, it was a Sega Saturn coffin-nail to not bring it to the states.
Yes, it will give you tingles.
FUCK SAKE! DOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIT!
XDragon @ Jan 5th 2009 4:21PM
You know, I could give you loads of complaints about Microsoft and from all angles, but if they start approaching companies to remake timeless classics like this, they would gain a lot of respect back from me.
Retro gaming is huge and to be honest, many of today's games will not be remembered years from now, but some of these classics will never diaspear!
I'm all for it and I think this shouldn't be isolated; they need to get out there and keep getting more titles like this!
Ironhide @ Jan 6th 2009 9:34AM
Paid 89.99 Canadian for it. EB Games was importing Saturn games at the time. Snagged Xmen vs SF, Vampire Savior and a couple of others in that same time frame.
Diskoboy7 @ Jan 6th 2009 4:05PM
"There may soon be a way of picking up and playing Radiant Silvergun that doesn't involve second mortgages or selling plasma."
Or you can just play it in MAME....
