We're less than a week into the new year, and already some people are casting doubting glances at the industry. And by some people, we mean Lionhead's Peter Molyneux, who recently told the BBC that 2009's upcoming slate of game releases is "all looking a bit dry." The face behind our favorite game of 2008 also spoke out against current retail prices, predicting "a lot of price pressure put on games" in the future. Good thing, as we need to buy something to wash all of this down.
Noted Molyneux, "All the triple A titles came out this Christmas and while there is stuff in 2010 we can look forward to, off the top of my head I cannot think of anything next year that really excites me." Of the things that get him going, one is likely to be his next "super secret" project, a game that he teased "might" be revealed next year. Dmitri, is that you?

also God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Splinter Cell Conviction, Halo Wars, HAWX, Star Ocean 4, Prototype, Infamous, Bioshock 2, Tekken 6, and even FFXIII is scheduled for 2009 (though i doubt it will actually make it). we may also get Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 and there is a very good chance we get another Infinity Ward Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 2?) and maybe another Zelda title.
dont know what he's looking at but 2009 looks like a great year to me for gaming. a quick run down the IGN release date list will show that. i think he means it's looking a bit dry because HE may not have a game coming out. and we all know how he feels his games are the best things EVER regardless of what else is coming out lol. 2009 will be great.

2009 just started and it's already looking very promising.
Must-buy:
Fat Princess
Infamous
Killzone 2
Patapon 2
Pixel Junk Dungeons
Bayonetta
Brutal Legend
Uncharted 2
Heavy Rain
To keep an eye on:
The Agency
Noby Noby Boy
MAG
I would say Team ICO game, God of War 3, Starcraft 2, and Diablo 3, but who knows if they'll be this year or the next, or the next...
That's just off the top of my head... if I did some sleuthing I'm sure I could come up with a bunch more.

Hmm, I just re-read my list and was kind of depressed at the amount of games being sequels... I mean... FINAL FANTASY XIII ffs(ignoring all spin offs). Damn, oh well; they're fun.

M.A.G more like L.A.G
Seriously unless they use WOWish graphics I can’t see how that is possible. Also I think is still work in progress.
Alan Wake ????
SF4 is going to be awesome except in the Xbaucks, the D-pad sucks with a passion.Fighting games ar eunplayable with the xbaucks d-pad.

Really so when did you get to play it an experience this Lag?
At least wait until the game is out before making stupid comments like that.

Alan Wake is the one game i will get on 360 this year so i have to mention it, and i will get SFIV on PS3 due to better D-Pad

Have they even announced that Alan Wake is coming out this year? Honestly, I won't believe that it is actually coming out until I see it on store shelves.

You know what's funny we are disccusing about a game that we don't know much about except for a CGI trailer.Still I wonder how are they going to manage to create a game with 256 players without lag since that's the premise.

well i play 60 player Resistance 2 with no lag on a shitty connection (seriously, i can barely download 50 kb/s on a good day with this satellite shit). not really defending the game since i'm not particularly interested in it but with good code, it may very well be possible. you cant just assume it will be laggy without actually seeing it lag.

ITP: Random info
God of War 3: Q4 2009 (which in sonys case probably means Q2 2010)
Bioshock 2: No estimated release date set yet, doubt it will be 2009
Half life 2 esp 3: No estimated release date set yet.
Starcraft 2: Was 1/3 of the way done 1/2 way through 2008, so I doubt it will make 2009, esp. since they havent released a set quarter yet.
Heavy rain: Wtf is this shit? Theres nothing out on this game yet, it will be super late 2009 or 2010, at the earliest.
I am very curious about MAG though. Im in networking and I can tell you that a 256 player FPS is a networking nightmare. Ever seen what happens when 200+ players in an mmo gather at one spot? And that doesnt even compare, FPS's need steady frames per second, and theres lots of physics work going on, and it needs to have a constant low ping, or crazy shit goes down.
Either they have some wizard that is a god amoung networkers, or theres going to be some catch.

I'm ready for Killzone 2, but everyday that goes by my hype for it decreases. Then again lots of games are that way for me when they are announced too early. Well except Blizzard games. I also am hoping Sacred 2 for 360/PS3 will be as good as the PC(but without bugs) so I can get that.
Then there's Halo:ODST and Resident Evil 5

I was just about to say that. Soooo aggravated with Fable 2 being broken and unplayable on my 360.
Also, why do we get a news story every time Peter Molyneux pulls an opinion from his nether regions?

I don't know how many of you will actually buy Halo Wars.
I was checking it and well the Achievements look like are going to be hard like Gears of War "Seriously" hard. Also is going to be awkward without a keyboard and a mouse and the fact that there are only 3 races doesn’t convinces me but then again these guys created Age of Empires II and conquerors (Sadly AoE3 was disappointing).
I would only buy t because the CGI cutscenes look badass but I guess most Haloz player are just going to buy it to get access to the first half of the Mythic maps. I really hate Halo map packs.3 for 800 (Unless you grab a promotion) and early buyers get screwed big time.

Well I read the details on xbox360achievement.org so guess what I read first.
What I meant is I don’t think this is the kind of game that focuses on the Halo fanbase. This would probably be better on PC.
Also I like the games I can complete within a month. I no longer have the time to play long strategy or RPG games but that’s just me.

dr jeckyl not only do the achievements look really good but so does the game play. I'm expecting big sales of halo wars, I know a few people planning on buying it.

Holy shit how you misread my comment, Alien Lord. I put the two games forward as positive examples of how Microsoft's lineup might not be lacking, and you haven't been paying attention if you think i'm a Sony fanboy. Unless owning nothing but Nintendo consoles somehow qualifies me

Did they? I remember 2008 looking great from the start, because most of 2007's big titles were delayed.

Anybody bitching at the end of 2007 must have been delusional. At that point, we knew that Fallout 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Fable 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Spore, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl were all on their way, and we had a good hunch that a couple more like Gears of War 2 would be announced. Even the most generous assessment of 2009 right now is a joke by comparison.
I will say this, though -- things are looking way up for Wii owners compared to last year.
