Molyneux: Gaming in 2009 'looking a bit dry'

Being brutally honest, Lionhead Studios' own Peter Molyneux gave BBC his industry predictions for 2009 and, truthfully, isn't really all that excited.

"Next year [2009], well, it's all looking a bit dry," admitted Peter Molyneux, adding that "all the triple A titles came out this Christmas." Continuing his lack of 2009 optimism rant, Molyneux mentioned that "there is stuff in 2010 we can look forward to, off the top of my head I cannot think of anything next year that really excites me." Well sir, with the utmost respect, we do not agree.

Plus, MS has said that they will break the bank with E3 2009. But, I guess not does not mean those games would be coming out this year. But still, announcements of AAA titles that everyone will want means that it wont be that dry.

This guy could fart and there would be a headline.

Which is too bad because Fable 2 sucks balls! It doesn't even work on my xbox - or any of the other 4 xboxes at my house -_-. Just freezes during the tutorial. I'm so mad, I'm gonna complain about this every chance I get.

Peter doesn't get to state his opinions until he learns to make proper games!

I love Fable 1 and 2, but to be honest I don't think anything excites him because he isn't coming out with anything.

You hit the nail on the head. If it's not his game, he's not interested.

I can't think of any must buy games out this year neither...

I'll keep this on the 360 side since this IS X3F, but I cant believe anyone would think that there aren't any good games coming out this year. Just of the top of my head I can think of:

X-Blades

If you cant see that this is gonna be another great year for games then you need to take off the blinders and update your graphics drivers.

To add to that,
I'm sure Tom Clancy will come out with a GRAW 3 or a Rainbow 6 title.

And let's not forget Bioshock 2.

I think he's saying it's going to be a dry year because lionhead isn't releasing anything in 09.....

It also annoys me how much publicity this guy gets. Why do the gaming media hang on his every word? :/

I gotta wonder if he is only talking about 360 because Killzone 2 will most definitely be a Tripple A title. Then again why no inclusion of Bioshock 2 on either console? And isn't Forza 3 out this year? This guy is off his rocker.

...and now this nonsense. I realize that it is Molyneux, not X3F saying this, but are you kidding me? Honestly? Nothing in '09? H3:ODST, Halo Wars, Ghostbusters, FEAR 2, RE 5, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 (maybe), Bioshock 2. Every one of those games will sell at least a million copies.

...and I am sure there's plenty I'm missing. I can't take any more of teh internetz today. I'm out.

I'll be interested in most of those except RE5.. also aiming to pick up Prince of Persia, Rock Band 2 & Fifa 09, that Aliens shooter, Halo Wars.. there's only Heavy Rain that interests me on the PS3, Phantasy Star Portable on PSP.. and nothing at all I can even think of for Nintendo's..

You know what, I was a huge Fable fan but Fable 2 was a flop in my opinion. I enjoyed Fable 1 alot more. Now if this retard of a man thinks that there are no good titles for 2009, maybe he should go back and play his piece of crap of a game that is Fable 2 and see how well it compares with upcoming titles like Halo ODST, Halo Wars, Fear 2, Bioshock 2 (I mean seriously, bioshock 2, what more could you want?)....I have lost all faith in this crazy hyping machine that calls himself a man...I qoute TheAngryGamer "eff you, Molyneux."

I agree, Fable 2 didnt feel as exciting as the first one.

Uhh, I actually enjoyed the second one more. it felt like a great improvement over the first one in terms of combat and everything you can do outside of the main quest. If you just play the main quest and never go into the economy and such, then you're missing out on about half of the game. The amount of things in That game you're able to do made it one of the best games of the year for me.

Well I got something he can do for gaming in 2009... FIX all the bugs in his own game Fable 2.

Worry about your own game first, than talk all you want about how dry, or whatever that means, 2009 will be.

Fable 2 was indeed a piece of trash, one of the worst built games on the 360 platform. Lionhead Studios have barely acknowledged that the game is faulty.

Dont forget SFIV too. Seriously is this clown shoe aware of the 3 HUGE games coming out in the next 3 months. Not to mention DLC for Fallout and GTA...talk about out of touch.

I love you Moleyneux and I love Fable 2.

But I think you have missed it this time. There are plenty of games coming and numerous that hopefully will be announced that should be coming out this year.

You guys do know Mass Effect 2 is not coming out this year as the studio is making another game.

if the original team is not working on the sequel (2k boston; bioshock) then there is nothing "highly anticipated" about it. period.

It's kinda true .. there aren't much good X360 exclusives coming in 2009.

There are a few of course, like Alan Wake and .. um, maybe a new Halo, but it's indeed a bit dry on this side.

Wii is getting few good games, but not much either.
PSP has some solid titles coming, but most people will download them anyway.
DS has few possibly good games coming.
PS3 has the best 2009 lineup at the moment, let's hope they don't delay any of the games.

This guy has a lot of nerve to say there's nothing exciting coming in '09 when he just released yet ANOTHER bullshit game by the name of Fable 2 that didn't live up to the hype. I can name over 15 games just from '08 that was better than Fable 2 including PSN and XBLA titles. Shut up and learn how to make some good games yourself.

Well, considering I'm gonna spend the entire year of 2009 catching up on all the Holiday 2008 titles, I don't think I'll be bored.
