PSP games to look for in 2009
35
PSP has no games? WRONG. The dreadful PSP games drought is over, my friends. 2009 has barely begun, and we already know of more than a dozen titles to look for this year. And trust us, there are even more games coming that just haven't been announced. LocoRoco 2, Resistance Retribution, Phantasy Star Portable, Dissidia ... the list keeps on going. In fact, it keeps on going here.

By 'announced', do you mean on a list? Because I know that Dissidia has been announced to release this year (In about 6 months or so).
Also, don't know if you can submit content:

They've hacked the 3000.

Thanks for pointing out *why* we don't have a longer list of announced titles for 2009--the typical PSP owner's fascination with homebrew and piracy.
Fact: 100% of PSP's running pirated games use homebrew.

Because the DS is so much harder to hack?
The PSP has a smaller user-base is what I assume. That and most games on the PSP are actually good compared to the mounds of shovelware released every day for the DS.
2009 looks like a good year, even for only Dissidia. Try being a little less negative, and look at the bright side: You are getting -something-, and most of it is pretty good!
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Youtube videos, read an eBook, play some NES/SNES/GBA games and Cavestory on my PSP.

As I said, the typical PSP user is fascinated with homebrew and piracy. The typical DS user (a much younger crowd) is NOT. The ease of piracy on either system is utterly irrelevant. All that matters is how much actual piracy takes place relative to legitimate sales.
Since you're going to Youtube, go look up "piracy" combined with "PSP" and with "DS". Notice how there are five times as many videos on the PSP side? There ya go.
I'm negative because I dig the PSP, and piracy killled it. This is the last gasp. And you made the bonehead move of commenting about a hack in a thread about upcoming games. You invited a little criticism, friend.

That's a bit of an assumption you're making. How does having more videos mean more pirating goes on?
What merits a video being needed?
DS: A Cart.
PSP: A Special Battery, files installed on Memory Stick of specific size, installation procedure, updating, etc.
Installing PSP homebrew is a much harder process than it is on the DS, or at least it is to learn how to do it. It actually could -use- those videos, which is why those videos get made.
Try not to say "PSP GETS PIRATED MORE" unless you have actual numbers.

Those how-to videos are redundant. Also, a ton of the videos that come up are simply links to pirated game files, etc. Or descriptions that mention the in-game video being provided was taken from a pirated game. In short, PSP owners are obsessed with getting something for nothing.
I didn't like about the numbers. One search turned up 5,000 DS vids about piracy while **25,000** came up for the PSP. Let that sink in for a while....
Combine with the fact that every single forum about PSP's has voluminous comments about piracy. You can't mention a PSP game anywhere without someone either asking how/where to pirate it or bragging about how they already have.
It's time to take responsibility. If you know someone with pirated games, punch them in the head the next time you see them. If you yourself have pirated games, go punch yourself in the head right now.

Doesn't go on for very long. 16 games isn't much of a list.
And if that's the highlights, I think my PSP will be spending most of 2009 in a desk drawer.

16 games (although I'm personally only interested in just over 1/2 of them) with arguably high pedigrees and standards of franchise quality that have been hits in other areas or spawned from hits is nothing short of impressive for a mostly Q1/Q2 release list.

"Phantasy Star Portable ... Infrastructure support is not included."
That's just criminal. The lack of infrastructure support across the board on PSP games has been my biggest disappointment with the system. Maybe kids have tons of friends with PSPs but we PSP-owning adults are few and far between, it seems.

Just wait till some time in 2009. If you want infrastructure, ad-hoc party on the ps3 should have you covered.

I neither have nor want a PS3, though. One of the reasons I bought a PSP was for the potential that infrastructure on a handheld offered.

With the ad hoc party on the ps3, you can use the ad hoc connection on the psp to connect to other psp users outside of normal ad hoc range and without developers having to redo a game for infrastructure if it wasn't already there.

Right. And lose any benefit of having a _portable_ system with infrastructure. If I want to sit on my couch and play online, i can do that with my 360 in high def.

Some devs may not like the time or money it takes to put infrastructure in. Who knows?

A game system needs tens if not hundreds of releases per year. Those few do not make it for me.

But Locoroco 2 is already old here. And a lot of those games are ports of older PS1 games. What's the point?

Don't forget about 'Ushiro' and 'Cardboard Senki' from Level 5, please. Have some love for the original new franchises.

Great list guys. If we were to look back at a similar list in 2008, it would probably only have about 7-8 titles on it so this is a big step up!
Note to some of the earlier commentors: These 16 games will not be the only games coming out for the PSP in 2009. There will be plenty of dissappointing licensed games, annual editions of sports franchises, and probably some more localized games from Japan that have not been announced yet. So lets not overeact here and say "OMG!! Only 16 games for teh hole year!!!!! WTF!! Nintendo DS or CFW FTW!!!"
Once again great feature and I'm definitely in for at least 6-7 of those games...

This isn't supposed to be a definitive list (although it seems to make up the bulk of the PSP releases of this year).
I'm also looking forward to Mana Khemia: Student Alliance.

people, 16 isn't bad. i mean how many games are you going to buy this year??? 200!?!??!?!! Also look at the ign release dates, there's about 150 games coming out:

The IGN PSP list is phony, basically they added every game even rumored to be released on the PSP (Cave Story, EA Replay 2, Namco 2). And a lot of it is made up of European releases so old they are moldy. (Asphalt GT2, Pilot Academy, Air Conflicts, etc)
And to the guy comparing 2009 to 2008, 2008 was a pitiful year, too.

I understand how 16 games doesn't seem like a lot but if you think about it that's technically at least one decent game a month(we all know one won't come out every month). Even if the game is only mediocre it's still better than getting 15 horrible games a month.
Overall I'm interested in all but a few, and I'm surprised because before reading about one or two of them I didn't think I would like them. Looks like it will be a pretty good year for the PSP, and I generally haven't been that interested recently.
