Actual gameplay screenshots of Final Fantasy XIII
52
Looks like the latest Famitsu has (shock!) actual gameplay screenshots of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII. While we can't host full scans of the magazine, FinalFantasy-XIII.net can. The real-time graphics look superb, and make us want to see the game in action. It's only a few months until Japan gets a playable demo of the game --- we're certain to see much more of the game then.

Don't we get a 9 hour demo with the release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Blu-Ray movie?

Graphics and angles look nice, but how smooth and assimilated the battle system is, only time will tell.

Alright! Now where's some clear gameplay shots of Versus? I feel like I'm waiting for Advent Children 2 to come out in theaters with all the recent trailers.

Versus looks very dark and the gameplay is suppose to be different

Ah...it hurt that bad did it? The games still going to be the same on either console, plus you have Versus to get your "exclusive jollies" off.
I'd just like to hear more about these games instead of teaser after teaser.

Its pathetic that blind fanboyism will make people pass on a game because its not just on their piece of plastic of choice.

Yeah, I think it's stupid to hate on a game company just because it wants to get more money, but I AM a bit nervous as to how it would or has messed with the release date and/or quality of the game. Unless they were originally planning on releasing the game with a large amount of lag time between the time they completed it and the time that it's out, then either quality or the release date will suffer from their choice to go multiplatform.
I understand that there are two separate teams working on both versions, but if you think they're going to be totally independent from each other, you're crazy. They have to consult with each other at some point, and that takes more valuable time out of the creation and polishing of the game.
If they don't start 360 development until after the PS3 version is complete (like I've heard is happening elsewhere), then why the hell aren't we getting the game earlier?
I'm definitely not upset about FF coming to the 360. As long as Sony still has the ability to keep on pumping out games on the PS3, I don't matter if it's rabidly successful or not.
What I DO care about, are the inherent problems involved with making a multiplatform game. It scares me a bit that Final Fantasy XIII won't be exactly what it was meant to be or that we're not getting it on time due to the decision to go multiplatform.
Either way, I still love the franchise. Can't wait to play it.

This is a valid concern. They had been saying forever that they were going to push the PS3 to its limits and all this crap, but I don't see that happening if they're going to make both versions of the game identical. They say they're going to make the PS3 version first and then port it to the Xbox 360, but it's pretty much impossible for both games to be exactly the same but optimized for the Xbox 360.
I think the end result is going to be a slightly inferior game to what it would have been had it kept its exclusivity. But I'm not going to have a temper tantrum about it and refuse to play the next game in one of my favourite gaming series' just because it's not exclusive to a console I own.

You'd swear these fanboy idiots held stock in the companies. Why does anyone care so much about a console? Seriously! Is it 'cus most of them are children and Mommy only buys them one console, so they act as if it is the best console to keep from feeling butthurt? It baffles me...

This reminds me. When I tell people I have a PS3, they often will laugh at me. It's still the underdog of this generation, so I usually feel the need to defend myself. And what I really hate is when I mention multiplatform games. And they say that they don't count.
If you honestly think that, just because a game is on another console that it no longer makes the game good, then you need a freaking reality check. Square Enix is not a bad company simply for realizing that there's a huge user base with 360s in America and that they can make money off of them.
If you honestly think that multiplatform games are bad, then fine. That's your opinion. But personally, I'll be over here having fun with Burnout, Rock Band, Mirror's Edge, GTA IV, etc. Yes, first-party games are great, but certainly not necessary. Get a grip.

OP: It doesn't matter, get over yourself, the game will be good no matter what freaking system it's on. The only way it will affect the PS3 version of the game is that it will take longer to release, as they said they are releasing both versions at the same time, though the aren't going to start working on the 360 port until the PS3 version is complete.

reason why i hate them now is cause since it's now multiplatform i feel like they didn't trust us PS3 users as if they wern't gonna sell many games on the system .. FF would be a system seller if MGS4 didn't do it for ya the FF would .. but i think they jumped shipped and thought nah .. sorry we wanna sell more ( i can see why who wouldn't ) but i don't think they would have any issue selling as many copies of FFXIII on the PS3 like they sold games on the PS2 .... people who love the FF series would pay for a PS3 just for this game .. and this is why i think they went multiplatform and it disgusts me this is why i hate them. does a game have too suffer for it... no but i can't really see myself buying a game from them if they think this way.

You seriously think about this way too much dude. PS3 will be just fine. If MGS4 doesn't do it for ya, then how about FFVS13. or God of War 3 or Killzone 2 or the plethora of other titles coming to the PS3 this year and beyond. See? It ain't so bad. :-)

dude, do you know how much money FF13 is costing the folks over @ squaresoft??? basically the current and projected userbase of the ps3 wordlwide is not enough to make back their cost of production, hello!
this is a huge project with a huge budget. it has nothing to do with "trust in its fans" it has more to do with securing a future for their company.

The game is being developed for the PS3, and it will be ported to the x360, not the other way around. We're still getting a native, fully developed game here. So I don't get where you're getting your:
"does a game have too (sic) suffer for it ... (should be a question mark, not dots)"
idea from.
Secondly, your concept of "people who love the FF series would pay for a PS3 just for this game" is a really dangerous thing to assume, because that's exactly what Ken Kutaragi said when Sony priced the PS3 for $600, and just look how that turned out. People have a limit to what they're willing to play for.
Example: I love the Star Ocean series, but I'm really debating with myself whether or not I'm willing to spend the money to buy a x360 solely for SO4, and I'm hoping that Square Enix releases it on PS3, even if it's just a port. More likely than not, I won't be able to convince myself that it would be a worthwile investment when I could buy multiple PS3 games instead, or even better, new furniture.
I highly doubt that there is a significant portion, in a business aspect, of Final Fantasy fans who are "holding out" so they can blow over half a grand to play a 40 hour game. People have other expenses in their lives. Sure, a lot of people line up outside when a game comes out to buy a console, but they're a very vocal minority who get a lot of attention. They in no way represent the majority of people, who already own the system to begin with.
Many Final Fantasy fans who were holding out for XIII already own a PS3, as proven by the reaction online when SE announced they were going multi-platform.
Lastly, of course they want to sell more, that's how they get more money to make even better games down the line. I can't stand people like you who think that companies have to put the feelings of their customers before a profit. Of my friends, only two of us have PS3s, the rest have x360s. And to be honest, I'm glad that FFXIII is being developed for both consoles, because now I can discuss the game with my friends, and they're excited for it to.
Final Fantasy fan != Sony fan, which is what you're assuming them all to be. The Final Fantasy series was originally held by Nintendo, and SE develops for all three consoles and both handhelds. Why should the Final Fantasy series be any different? If you really are a Final Fantasy fan, a business decision to go multiplatform isn't going to prevent you from buying it, that's being a Sony fan.
"i can't really see myself buying a game from them if they think this way." If you can say this honestly, then you never were going to buy it to begin with, or you're lying to us for effect. I refuse to believe that there are people as dense as you who actually think this way.

Everywhere I read has a different take on what the Battle System is supposed to be. Just too much disinformation to get a clear picture. I really hope they haven't abandoned Final Fantasy XII's system and spawned enemy encounters, best thing to happen to the series in a long while.

I absolutely HATED FFXII's battle system. Sure, you can make enemies visible before a battle, but the whole AI controlling your party members was awful. I miss the old school turn-based battles. I was hoping they'd go back to what worked for them, but these pictures look somewhat similar to the FFXII style and that, frankly, sucks.

For everyone who is crying over the lack of quality for it going multi platform think about this.
The game is a PS3 exclusive in Japan and is being released there first. They're focusing solely on the PS3 version making it perfect, then it is going to be ported over to the Xbox 360. So only 360 owners who are die hard Final Fantasy fans need to worry.

I hope they are true to their word (and I have no reason to think they won't be) and make it for the ps3 then port it over for the 360. Hopefully it will set a precedent and show developers that that is the better way to do things and not the other way around. Multiplatform games will be much better received from both sides of the fence if this became the standard.

I hope this will be good, Final Fantasy lost me.
FFX was alright but the character design was kinda lame (Wakka?) and no direct control of the airship! That moment where you finally have the freedom to fly anywhere on the map is the best part of any FF game and a list doesn't replace it.
FFXI - I don't like MMORPGs and this one didn't do anything to help change that opinion
FFXII - The combat in this game is awful, I couldn't even get all the way through the demo. I tried but it's just no fun.
I miss Square's absurdly epic RPGs. I'm looking forward to the demo for XIII.

Tetsuya Nomura designed the characters in X and I think he's the worst thing to ever happen to Final Fantasy. Not even just Final Fantasy, but JRPGs in general.
You should give the full version of Final Fantasy XII a shot. The demo was terrible. I almost didn't buy the full game but I figured as a Final Fantasy fan I probably should, and I loved it. I don't think there were even gambits in the demo and they're a pretty big part of the gameplay.
