Console war to be settled this week in Street Fighter IV
We're as tired as you are of getting missives from the front lines of the console wars, so we're relieved to hear that they'll finally be behind us after this week's Consumer Electronics Show. Capcom will settle the fight once and for all on Saturday in Las Vegas, pitting the best Microsoft rep against Sony's pick in a battle for Street Fighter IV supremacy. The loser has agreed to stop making their console forever and ever, so the stakes are pretty high.
... Yes, we made that last part up, but we're going to keep our fingers crossed.

Yeah, but they don't have flames painted on them like my go-kart.

This is a smart and fun way to solve this problem.
PNO4 @ Jan 6th 2009 10:33PM
Nope, all it's going to do is create even more arguing and bickering. The best thing either side could do is ignore the other but the way M$ always tries to pick a fight that can never happen.
lionp696 @ Jan 6th 2009 10:02PM
What platform will they face on. Will it be a coin toss or what for home console advantage?
SoulBlade @ Jan 6th 2009 10:03PM
Good question. Hopefully an arcade machine.
megapenguinx @ Jan 6th 2009 11:30PM
Could always make a special Wii edition, thus making it fair for all (then maybe the Wii could get this in 480p)
Paulmichael @ Jan 7th 2009 5:19AM
As stated on the PS Blog by Jeff himself, "a round on each. If it goes to 3 rounds, probably a coin flip."
Booxatron @ Jan 7th 2009 2:28PM
It's too bad the online isn't cross-platform. Then each guy could play with his system's respective controller.
FNG @ Jan 6th 2009 10:12PM
All the writers for this blogsmith group of sites (engadget, joystiq, etc.) use the "we" a lot.
[Yes, we made that last part up, but we're going to keep our fingers crossed.] from above.
Justin, you are the best of the bunch. You should be able to say "I" I laugh from many of your articles.
Please edit your entry to say...

Keep up the good work.

Yes but what if it really is we, what if the work relationships in the office helps them vibe from one another to create interesting articles and stories. Maybe he created the gist but somebody added a word here or an idea there. Nothing wrong with sharing the love in a successful endeavor.
Yourself @ Jan 6th 2009 10:18PM
Not sure that's how journalism works...
Josh @ Jan 7th 2009 12:20AM
"in the office"

"We" as in the editorial "we."
There are different rules for writing in Journalism.

How do you know that other people didn't have their fingers crossed? You weren't there man, you weren't there!

If only all wars were solved this way... :'(
XenMaster4 @ Jan 6th 2009 10:33PM
No way - then some guy who does nothing but play street fighter 4 (or similar) all day would already rule the world from his parent's basement.
Lionbacker @ Jan 6th 2009 10:41PM
And you're saying that wouldn't be an improvement?
HippoHero @ Jan 6th 2009 10:44PM
I'd finally have a purpose!
elpmis @ Jan 6th 2009 10:17PM
... it would be interesting if the sony rep had to use 360's controller and the microsoft rep used the ps3's controller. Did I mention how much I also like turtles?
The Dark Wayne @ Jan 6th 2009 10:35PM
To mark this occassion, I will embark on a quest to get the high score on every machine, particularly the Marvel vs Street Fighter which I already have it on.
Mr Khan @ Jan 6th 2009 10:36PM
It would only work if Reggie came after they finished their match and handed their asses to them
ice~ @ Jan 6th 2009 10:42PM
Well he is the reginator! They should invite reggie and do some Shaun White Snowboarding!

Swamp Donkey @ Jan 6th 2009 10:43PM
Well this will be a cool way for me to decide whether to buy this for my 360 or PS3.
GundamWingEW @ Jan 6th 2009 10:44PM
And here I was thinking this battle would be determined in MORTAL KOMBAT...
Cue the epic MK song from the first movie...:)

Cammy looks like she's enjoying that way too much.

Every Joystiq post should feature women being punched in the gut and simultaneously reaching orgasm. News reports would be so much more "interesting"...
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jan 6th 2009 10:59PM
Are..are you somehow implying that Microsoft is the only EVIL AND MANIPULATIVE COMPANY while sony always plays fair?
HAHAHAH! You poor, naive little boy.
Hala Madrid!! (Somebody get me a tie! And it sure as hell better be red!) @ Jan 6th 2009 11:03PM
Why not Bill Gates vs JacK Tretton?
Stop wasting my time Capcom!
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 6th 2009 11:04PM
I am STILL torn on what system I'm getting this for. If I'm getting it at all. Still pissed off SFIII was completely shunned while fucking ROSE makes the roster. I can't get any Dudley or Ibuki or Twelve up in this bitch? At least Alex.
Nael M. @ Jan 6th 2009 11:23PM
SFIII was a financial bomb in it's prime (it took years for Capcom to make back their investment in the game), while PSX Alpha 3 was the last SF to sell over a million copies. It's more likely non-hardcore fans are going to recognize Rose over Alex or Elena.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 7th 2009 12:10AM
But they already have Dan and Sakura from the Alpha series. In fact, Gen and Rose coming along too is overkill. In fact, that makes four characters from the alpha line. While anything from III is completely ignored.
You can argue who is going to be recognized but Gen?!? REALLY?!? And keep in mind Alex is apparently good enough to show up in Tatsunoku Vs. Capcom on Wii but not SFIV....
Gun Barrier @ Jan 7th 2009 1:11AM
I thought you were against returning characters in Street Fighter sequels.
Rollins @ Jan 7th 2009 4:50AM
For some reason, every time I see the phrase "up in this bitch" appropriately used, I can't help but giggle.
Rollins @ Jan 7th 2009 4:50AM
This may be why: http://www.explosm.net/comics/1311/ :D
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 7th 2009 8:21AM
Very astute, gun. And in general, I am. I feel what Capcom has done with SFIV is squandered an opportunity to introduce a large number of new characters in favor of fan (?) favorites. Of the new characters, only Crimson Viper looks cool and I hate to say it but Capcom doesn't exactly have the best character designs for their main series. But since Crimson Viper and Abel are the only decent looking new characters, I have to resign myself to the fact that old ones will be returning. And if Rose and Gen make the cut, why can't SFIII at least get 1 character in? I mean what Capcom has done with SFIV in general is write SFIII out of the cannon (takes place before SFIII). And they even brought M Bison back to life....
geoff @ Jan 6th 2009 11:25PM
I'm putting my money on the PS3 player, what will happen is doe to the to the xbox controller the the xbox player will accidentally jump and get /facemelted by the ps3 players attacks... at least that's how it goes on xbox live
Nael M. @ Jan 6th 2009 11:27PM
Who says they're using the default controllers? Assuming they're getting the best players on each system, these players will likely be bringing an arcade stick to play with.
geoff @ Jan 9th 2009 4:26AM
it was a joke, its impossible to use defaults we all figured as much, and to try to be unbias they probably who even outwardly show which console its being played on
Noshino @ Jan 6th 2009 11:58PM
What?! Didn't you hear that Daigo is a Sony fanboy? :P
Shattercross @ Jan 7th 2009 12:14AM
From what I've read the game's coming out for PC, so the ps3 guy can plug his controller in and use homebrew drivers and the 360 guy can buy that 360 clone controller for the pc that microsoft makes...fair, no?
...probably won't happen though, they'll likely both use a 3rd party pad or arcade stick that comes in both flavors to make it fair.
Looks like this is going to be one hell of a fight!
Spike @ Jan 7th 2009 12:33AM
i don't know about you, but i'm using a wiimote and glovepie on the pc, hoti has a fighting stick out
Snowblind @ Jan 7th 2009 6:03AM
Perhaps they'll be using those new Street Fighter pads to play, they're the same on both systems, and the only reason I'll be buying the game for the 360.
NynjaMonkii @ Jan 7th 2009 1:03PM
There is no 360 "clone" controller Microsoft makes. Its simply a 360 controller. The windows branded ones they sell come with a driver disk. To use the wireless ones you need a receiver Microsoft sells, but the wired ones work right out of the box. I keep a wired XBox controller for XNA stuff.
