Eurogamer: Europe may get pre-launch Killzone 2 demo
Eurogamer claims a source close to Sony has indicated that if the Killzone 2 demo clears QA, it'll "almost certainly" be released in Europe before the game storms store shelves. This information comes hot on the heels of Sony America's confirmation that a North American demo will not be available until after the game launches on February 27.
Now, here's where wordplay makes the situation sticky. Killzone 2 doesn't currently have a clear release date in Europe. So, depending on when Europe actually gets an official date, the demo and game could very well be out in North America before Europe enters the zone of killing.

I wonder how the game will be received, I played the first Killzone and it was not too hot.
Tony @ Jan 6th 2009 1:20PM
i have an employee, who loves the original game. he said it was great to play with a friend. where you can play competitive vs bots. he seemed to like it a ton. i have heard its one of those games that didnt review well, but those who played it like it a lot
Morisato @ Jan 6th 2009 1:27PM
I've personally seen it and the graphics is HOOOOOOOT!!
Obie @ Jan 6th 2009 1:28PM
I guess that is why it got mixed reviews, but I am sure it didn't help that the game was hyped up before release.
I does seem they took their time with the sequel, so I am certain many issues of the first game have been adressed.
Professor Lario @ Jan 6th 2009 1:29PM
It had very well better be with the new O.W.L. mod.
Obie @ Jan 6th 2009 1:30PM
"HOOOT" graphics aside, how will it play...my favorite game this year runs on a 4 year old engine.
Morisato @ Jan 6th 2009 1:32PM
You guys are noobs... I was setting you up for O RLY?
Obie @ Jan 6th 2009 1:34PM
ORLY?
Morisato @ Jan 6th 2009 1:36PM
YA RLY! As far as gameplay goes, I only watched someone else play so I dont know. Cover mechanics seems good but I'm used to the 3rd person cover system from Gears, rather than the 1st person cam they use.
Obie @ Jan 6th 2009 1:40PM
1st person cover system? So if you duck down behind a wall....you only see wall????
Shmil @ Jan 6th 2009 1:45PM
I'm just gonna go ahead and say this, can't you take cover and duck in front of a wall in any FPS? I've been playing far cry 2 and doing nothing but running from cover to cover. I can't really see this cover system as a game selling point.
phinn @ Jan 6th 2009 2:03PM
The first one got mixed reviews. Lets hope they figured out their weaknesses as a game making company and know what they are doing this time around. I can't wait for this game, but I will wait for reviews before i buy it.
Haggard @ Jan 6th 2009 2:27PM
Well, you see around the wall too, but you don't get hit unless you 'pop out'. It looks like it works fairly well, check out some gameplay vids.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 6th 2009 1:13PM
[Ed. note: "First" post deleted. Next offense is ban.]
Wiinterfang @ Jan 6th 2009 1:14PM
The shame, oh the shame, I guess I'll downvote myself.
Shmil @ Jan 6th 2009 1:32PM
Cmon, you know better than to first.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 6th 2009 1:35PM
I know, I won't do it again.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Jan 6th 2009 2:02PM
Quick run-down on what happened here?
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Jan 6th 2009 2:15PM
Nevermind, I iz thick...
Still since when did FIRST's become some kind of a grave offence?
Wiinterfang @ Jan 6th 2009 2:18PM
IDK apparently the F word is a bannable offense, especially if you are not in fact the first.
Obie @ Jan 6th 2009 2:34PM
And if you look carefully, my post actually contains the word "first", but I am subtle...like a ghost in the night! :p
Wiinterfang @ Jan 6th 2009 2:36PM
It's all your fault Obie, you beat me by a minute, if I would have actually being the first, everybody will bow down to my might.
Obie @ Jan 6th 2009 2:42PM
eeeeeexcellent [mr.burns]
Burritoclock @ Jan 6th 2009 1:16PM
So, Sony takes their first real killer app in almost a year, a game hyped since BEFORE the launch of the console. A game that just MIGHT actually live up to the insanely high bar set for it. A game that could go a long way to changing the fortunes of the PS3 possibly... and they restrict the demo to people who already purchase it. Brillant!
If it's anywhere near the hype they should have kiosks shipped to every corner of the globe, they should give it away with samples of tide. Hell, mail DVD's with video's of the game play like AOL used to whore their disk. Hire a firm to do a halo campaign. It's aggravating, they really do need a shake up.
Vidikron @ Jan 6th 2009 1:22PM
Technically the demo will be available to everyone, but not until launch.
Haggard @ Jan 6th 2009 3:42PM
Hire some people to dress up as Helghast and shoot up some downtown districts?
Burritoclock @ Jan 6th 2009 3:46PM
I know, but they need to BUILD HYPE, a games success (like movies) is almost entirely judged from first week sales. Just look at lbp, great game, but it is known to almost everyone (that follows this stuff) as a "flop", and it wont matter if it sells a half million copies next month, it will still be known as a flop.
All I am saying is the last thing sony needs is another failure, whether it's actual or perceived is irrelevant.
So get me the damn demo and get me excited, THEN I'll preorder it!
Levi @ Jan 6th 2009 3:48PM
-pay $5 to reserve it
-download the demo on the 3rd
-keep the reserve, or return it and get your 5 bucks back.
Anyone who has ever reserved from Gamestop should know that you can cancel a reserve. You're not forced to buy the game to play the demo.
Burritoclock @ Jan 6th 2009 4:31PM
You're not, I'm just force to travel to a store, out down $5, travel home, unlock and download the demo, travel back to the store and haggle with employee's to refund my money... sounds like fun.
Mirror's Edge, I clicked download, and then started playing. Loved the demo, bought the game.
j.howlett @ Jan 6th 2009 4:41PM
there will be a demo. i would say make up your mind then but it looks like you already have
Levi @ Jan 6th 2009 7:42PM
So in that case, download the demo when it comes out, and buy the game if you like it. Just like everyone else is saying, console demos don't usually come out before the game. Or at least, they come out after the game more often than before. Dead Space, MGS4, Mega Man 9.
You're pretty much complaining that you MIGHT not be able to play the game and THEN buy it on release day. That's just stupid. If you're not interested enough in the game to buy it on release day based on what you know, you shouldn't be whining about when the demo comes out.
I hate it. All the kids on Joystiq act like the world fucking owes them everything right now for free. So childish.
Cellien @ Jan 6th 2009 1:22PM
Oh man, what a privilege. Our Euro friends might get to play a *GASP*... demo. Or, I *get* to buy the privilege here in the states.
Tony @ Jan 6th 2009 1:29PM
you know you can just that $5 back after you get the code for the demo?
and if you really interested in that game, most likely you went somewhere and preordered the game.
Vidikron @ Jan 6th 2009 1:31PM
"you know you can just that $5 back after you get the code for the demo?"
Or just wait until the demo is released either here or in Europe.
Tony @ Jan 6th 2009 2:25PM
that too!
Cellien @ Jan 6th 2009 1:46PM
@Tony: I haven't pre-ordered yet because I'm really on the fence about it. I didn't hate the first one, but it really wasn't that great either. If Sony is sure that it's a vast improvement from the first, than they should be begging people to play the demo. In fact, it worries me some that they aren't trying to change the image of the first by offering a fucking *awesome* demo to everyone to win them over and instead only letting people that would buy the game anyways no matter what have a chance at the demo.
I wasn't aware you can get your $5 back. Last time I reserved something and changed my mind they said I could only use as store credit.
Tony @ Jan 6th 2009 2:33PM
yeah, you can get your money back, they just didnt want you to change your preorder because it hurts their personal numbers.
as for the demo being available to everyone. its only exclusive for the preorder people up until the game is released. once the game is released, there will be a demo for everyone.
as for being on the fence for this game. everything i have heard and read about this game is amazingly positive. and thats not just coming from one source its coming from multiple sources. i like the website intergration, clan ladder system with valor points, the class systems with interchangeable perks. visually its probably one of the most graphically intense games there is. i started out being like you, but the more i did my research, the more i grew excited for this game
XGM @ Jan 6th 2009 4:28PM
Its better then us up here in Canada who have neither of those choices... Euro PSN account FTW !!!
Alien Lord @ Jan 6th 2009 1:48PM
You can not waste your time playing another Haze.
Night Elve @ Jan 6th 2009 1:50PM
Come on, do you really have to troll every PS thread?
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jan 6th 2009 1:56PM
Actually I feel as though the first Killzone was more like Haze.
But this just looks awesome. And Guerrilla KNOWS how to make good action games. There were a lot of "OH SNAP!" moments in Killzone: Liberation (like the final boss).
el serpiente @ Jan 6th 2009 2:34PM
Alien Lord is just jealous he won't get to play it. You know how kids act out.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 6th 2009 3:50PM
Even though Haze is everyone's whipping boy I have to say that it was a fun and neat little game. I'm not saying it's a good game or even a great game but I had fun with it. I have fun with most games I play even if I don't really like them or if I consider them overrated. I just enjoying playing games. I have even been enjoying the pitiful game Novastrike.
Levi @ Jan 6th 2009 7:46PM
Alien Lord, you are almost the most annoying troll at Joystiq. Congratz, you've made #2 right behind Lord Vesper. You guys should start a brigade. You could be [Lordz]AlienTroll and [Lordz]VesperTroll. I can see you guys buying a PS3 and KZ2 just to flood the servers with annoying anti-Sony bullshit. Give it a rest dude. Just shut the fuck up and let us play games. We didn't do anything to you and your precious 360 and Halo, so fuck off.
Lee @ Jan 6th 2009 1:56PM
Yea... That's normally what happens with games. Demo then full game. Take notes dev!
Lee @ Jan 6th 2009 1:58PM
Here, you can borrow my pen if it helps.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jan 6th 2009 2:03PM
Demo before game even though game is available in other regions by that time anyways?
Those are some good notes ya got there.
Vidikron @ Jan 6th 2009 3:13PM
Is that really the norm? There are plenty of games on the 360 and PS3 that don't get demos until the game is released, and some don't get any at all (e.g. GoW 2). And the Wii doesn't have demos of any kind.
The reality is that this public-demo-after-release, which is actually quite normal, is really just an excuse for the fanboys to start another flame war over a PS3 game. That's it.
el serpiente @ Jan 6th 2009 2:35PM
Oh, just shut up already.
Hyams @ Jan 6th 2009 2:42PM
Because HAZE didn't get a demo before release?
And killer apps like MGS4 and LBP did?
