Gears 2 patch detailed, adds new achievements, set for Jan. release

There's no denying it, Gears of War 2's online multiplayer is less then perfect. Ever since Gears 2's launch, the community has been demanding a patch to fix the various (and numerous) game bugs. Finally, Epic Games is speaking out about the patch, what it'll fix and has even informed us that they expect the patch to release sometime this month.

Over on the official Epic forums, Epic's Mark Rein detailed exactly what the Gears 2 patch will fix and the enhancements that'll be made once the patch is released. You can view a comprehensive listing of all the fixes that'll be included in the patch after the break. And from what we can tell, the patch should resolve most (if not all) the Gears 2 exploits we've heard about including that dreadful melee through the wall exploit. Oh, we should also mention that the patch will bring some new Gears 2 achievements based on the DLC. How 'bout them apples?

Fixed invisible shield exploit.
Fixed melee through walls exploit.
Fixed infinite Lancer ammo exploit.
Fixed shield with two-handed weapon exploit.
Fixed bug where shotgun and boomshot shot into the ground when shooting from the hip.
Increased penalties for quitting matches early.
Additional spawn protection from grenades and chainsaw attacks.
View Submission flag carrier destination using Tac/Com.
Achievement progress numbers added to War Journal.
Client side shotgun hit detection improved resulting in more reliable data in high latency games.
Increased frequency of in-game Achievement tracker notifications.
New DLC based achievements.

Unfortunatly for players outside the states (especially New Zealand and Australian gamers) Gears 2 match making is totally broken. Hence why so many players over here have, or are, switched back to Gears 1. Not because we feel the game is better, but we can choose which game we join. This allows us to pick matches with gold or silver ping meters... no lag. nice.

Gears 2 matchmaking refuses to take lag issues into consideration. It's not uncommon for people over here to constantly get placed into matches where there is a second of bullet lag, or just firing blanks. It makes it impossible to play. People here love gears 2, so long as we can get a private match going.

Sometimes, I admit, I get host. Which is nice. But when nearly everyone else in the match is from America or the UK, then it isn't fair on them... because suddenly they are the one battling the lag.

Why can't it just be like Gears 1? No match making and a Ping meter? Please?

if this patch does not fix the online play then i am just going to get all of the achievements then sell the game. the online lag is the only real problem in this game.
