Epic VP Mark Rein has posted on the Gears of War 2 forum, indicating that a major title update for the best-selling sequel is due to arrive in January. Some of the improvements planned: adding Achievements for the DLC content; fixing bugs; and addressing exploits.
Some of the online exploits the patch aims to fix involve players wielding an invisible shield, gaining infinite Lancer ammo and equipping a shield with a two-handed weapon. Epic also plans to include a harsher penalty for quitting matches early, spawn point protection and the ability to see the Submission flag using Tac/Com.
Most importantly (to shotgun whores), the new patch will fix "client side hit detection," so even in "laggy" matches the gun will be more reliable. That's great, because those shotgun folks really make the multiplayer an inviting experience.

They are going to punish me for quitting a broken game? I don't know why I should be punished because their net code is broken.
HEY EPIC!
Ball Dropped, start working on Gears 3.

Does anyone still play this game? Once you beat the short single player, and the multiplayer is unplayable everyone I know pretty much moved on. I guess this patch is meant to change that.

Too bad most of the people who played gears got pissed off and quit...

So there going to punish people for quitting early? That's the dumbest thing i've ever heard. What if somebody just gets tired of playing and wants to turn it off? Epic you've punished people enough by hyping up Gears 2 and not delivering. Gears 2 wasn't bigger, better and more bad ass, it was glitchy, laggier and ass.

Personally, I think that a drop in/drop out system works the best, like in COD. It eliminates long search times and problems with quitting since it keeps the lobby open and playing.

Now if could play warzone, and only warzone, I would be a happy man...

HARSHER to people who want to leave? How about we let people join games in progress, instead, so whens someone leaves the teams aren't horribly inbalanced? People HAVE to leave games sometimes, why should it be such a hassle? They aren't even addressing any of the REAL problems with multiplayer in this patch, aside from hit detection. Dissapointing.

"a harsher penalty for quitting matches early"
Would those be the matches that are completely unplayable due to glitches and lag? So... what am I just suppose to sit there for several minutes while people teleport-chainsaw me through walls? How about EPIC doesn't give me a REASON to quit the game early?! Or how about they try to detect someone who weapon-slides EVERY SINGLE TIME and give THAT person a "harsher penalty", like being banned.

Wow. Seems like this game isn't working for a lot of people. I don't see what the issue is. I got it about a week after it came out. The only problem I had was the extremely long team-searching time when playing with 3 or 4 buddies. Since they released the first patch, the wait times have become neglible for me. A minute, tops. Usually about 15-20 seconds.
I feel like the gameplay, maps, and weapons are very well-balanced. I use a wide variety of weapons when I play, and have done well with each of them. Granted, I prefer the shotgun in close encounters, but hitting people with mortars or sticking them with the torque bow from afar is pretty satisfying.
Also love the frag 'nades. I haven't been this satisfied using proxy mines since Goldeneye.

While the grenade tagging may be a fun mechanic it doesn't promote a very competitive atmosphere. Anyone can tag a wall in a place that no one can see. All this does is slow down the game. If you yourself had to trigger the grenade it would at least force you to keep an eye on the area and would also mean you would have to switch weapons once detonated, creating a slightly more balanced mechanic.

Thank got people are getting penalized. Who cares if you "just don't want to play?". If you just "don't want to play" on a ranked match, and decide to quit, you're punishing your team mates for leaving them man down. You don't leave your team down like that, even if they are retarded and walk against walls.

WAIT! What about the whole glitch of punching people through walls in all the maps? Are they gonna fix that crap!?

I believe you are referring to 2-piece whores. The ability to melee, the use your shotgun to finish someone with ease is just one of many game mechanics/rules that have ruined the matchmaking experience.

Can someone explain what happened to the best multiplayer match making system I've ever played? People are saying use Halo MM or use COD4 MM, but what about GEARS 1?!?!?
It was a lot of fun to just join one game and then to be able to play with the same four man team as long as you wanted (and if a teammate dropped out, someone would always be there to balance the teams). I cannot figure out why they would get rid of that feature. I would have no problem with taking 5-10 minutes to find a team for players choice if I at least stayed with that team after finding them...
And I cannot understand the ranking system. It says looking for players of similar skill, but almost always there is one team with significantly higher "skilled" players according to the ranking system...
