FinalFantasy-XIII.net has nabbed some high quality screens of Final Fantasy XIII from Famitsu, and they're lovely. But as we peruse them, we can't help but have the sensation of flipping through a really fancy coffin catalog. Yes, the rosewood casket is gorgeous, but it's not as if you're ever going to get to enjoy it, is it?
We'd find it a lot easier to get excited about Final Fantasy XIII if we knew we'd be getting our hands on the game before 2010, which already sounds like a hyper-futuristic spaceworld where super-intelligent pterodactyl-men hold sway. But maybe that's just us.

MGS4 graphics over gears 2 anyday...
if epic can get smoke and hair to move and look that real alond with other fine details then it would close.
god of war 3 yeah those will be killer too and uncharted 2..
funny to see the ps3 starting to pass the 360 graphically lately. unreal engine 3 can only go so far.
i havent played crysis.
heavy rain looks good 2. graphics though i dont know much about the game yet.

Every time I see more info about FFXIII, it saddens me immensely that this will be the first generation we haven't seen three Final Fantasies released. Sigh...

Crisis Core
Dissidia
Revenant Wings
The War Of The Lions
Grimoire Of The Rift
Ring Of Fates
My Life As A King
Chocobos Dungeon
Agito (coming soon)
FF 13 (Hopefully 2009)
FF 13 VS (Hopefully 2010)
Probably some other ones I am forgetting about. I tried to exclude the remakes. All of the games in the final fantasy universe have been on the DS, PSP and Wii. I think SE also released an online game on the 360 & PC as well.
I know it's not what you meant but there are allot of games out there in the Final Fantasy Universe.

I'm just worried that Square is more concerned about making the game pretty than they are about making it play well. I like a visually attractive game as much as the next gamer, but how long have they been working on this one in particular? We'll have the next generation of consoles before they release it at this rate of progress.

You're worried? It's been obvious Square only care about making a game look pretty for years, why else would they still be making Final Fantasy games? I must admit they do make good pointless pre-rendered cutscenes though... ¬_¬

@ LittleBigPSN
I'm talking about three main series titles. I do enjoy much of what Square's released over the past couple of years, but as someone that grew up on FF on the NES it's still a little depressing to know a streak that's gone on for 20 years and four generations of consoles ends now.

Am I the only one that just doesn't care anymore? Before, the Final Fantasy fan in me would be jumping for joy at the news of a new game, but after the disaster that was X and XII, it just doesn't care anymore and hopes for a game like TWEWY as opposed to a new Final Fantasy.

The problem with modern FF games is that the characters are unlike able and maybe is just me but the Male characters seem to be based on some American or European stereotype from maybe a TV show or a Rock band with a complete lack of character and the rest are Anime clichés.
For example I find FFIV characters more charismatic than the planks in FFX except for Lulu. She was a good character.

I was just about to post something similar :) Production and build up for FFXIII has been so long in the tooth - back before the PS3 was released - that I really can't get excited anymore.
I get much more excited about open ended draw-you-in RPGs like Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fable II these days, versus the JRPG standard of spikey haired hero from village XYZ who saves the world.
Final Fantasy spends a lot of time milking nostalgia of the old games, but I'm wondering how many younger gamers still really care about this series.

This game looks amazing, im really happy its going to be on the Xbox 360 so i dont have to waste money on the retarded Playstation 3, oh and square-enix said it was much easier to make games for 360 anyway, i give the ps3 about a year and a half to a year before it dies. it has no good games that arent already on xbox
