Step 1: Release PlayStation 3.
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Profit!
David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, believes that Sony is "on target" to figure out that elusive second step. "The most important thing for us as a company in the very short term is for us to start making money," Reeves explained rather candidly in a recent article on the official PlayStation website. "This is a pledge that was made last March and is something that we are still very much on target to achieve." His tone was considerably more positive than one adopted by recent rumors, which have Sony on the "brink of upheaval."
Quizzed -- or rather, politely asked to contribute in a promotional piece -- about 2009's most exciting developments, Reeves noted that once the company's flagship system is out of the financial woods, things will really take off for PlayStation and its fans. "2009 promises to be a very exciting year for PS3, with blockbuster titles such as Heavy Rain and Killzone 2 coming out, whilst we have the music and video download service becoming available towards the end of the year," he said. And don't forget about our pal, the PSP, which will have games taking "full advantage of the new enhanced screen."

all I can say is it will be Rather Interesting to see what the PS3 does id ALL of its Exclusive Games PLANNED for this year are ACTUALLY RELEASED this year........
I mean I know Microsoft likes to keep stuff under wraps but does the 360 have anything aside from the 2 Halo based games for this year??

That's a very good question. Outside of the DLC coming for a bunch of existing games (GTA, Fallout, Fable, Tomb Raider) I haven't heard of any MS exclusives slated for 09. Oh, except Ninja Blade, which looks exactly like Ninja Gaiden except...you know...lousy.
The upside of this is that, unlike last year, I might actually play my PS3 this year.

I know what you mean, the 360 line-up is a little sparse for 2009. But on the other hand, at this time last year, Gears 2 wasn't even officially confirmed. Plus one of the best titles of 2007 (COD4) only became awesome at E3 of that year.

That's true, but the reason I gave it a question mark is because there's no confirmation that it'll be an exclusive.
EA own the IP and the dev now, and they're not known for making exclusives. Unless Microsoft have moneyhatted the whole trilogy, it's possible it'll show up on the PS3 too.

I've been talking to a lot of people who have bought a PlayStation recently but are completely "casual" gamers, in that the games the play consist of Buzz Quiz, Singstar, The Sims, and Guitar Hero.
I just find it odd that *I* tend to run into more casual players with a PS3, and more "hardcore" gamers with a 360.

How is that surprising, exactly? EVERYONE I knew (including at least 2 former girlfriends) had a PS2 and I would only classify a small percentage of those as "hardcore gamers."

I guess brand recognition goes a long way.
I just feel odd that in a conversation about the PS3, I can mention Little Big Planet and receive a blank stair.

A friend of mine told me that the Cheap PS3 that was going to be release on 06 it's gonna have a 16 HDD only..I mean I know that the Xbox Arcade doesn't have a harddrive but that sucks, there's a lot of PS3 that needed to be downloaded into the hard drive.

I think if downloaded your PS3 into its hard drive, a mini black hole would be created.

Ok Ok Ok.
There's this rumor/announcement that the PS3 is going to be cheaper this year.
But a friend of mine says that it's going to be yet another model and this one with a 16HDD.
I think that sucks because you need to download a lot of games into your Hard drive.
I hope it's clearer now.

It's certainly possible.
Production costs are lowering for the blu-ray technology; a new, smaller Cell chip will go into production early this year; raw materials costs are lowering; and the Japanese banks are making an effort to weaken the Yen so that Japanese business don't keep on getting raped by the exchange rate.
Furthermore, a lot of big titles that have cost them a lot of money - Killzone 2, HOME, LBP, GT5, GOWIII, InFamous, etc. - are now starting to be released, so they can start to make money and not just be big ol' money sinks.
Unless Sony do something really stupid (and I wouldn't put it past them) they should start to make a profit this year.

Thats right, the ps3 this year is 30% cheaper to make so i think Reeves is not lying about finally getting a profit.Im just waiting for February so i can get my "evil and bitter republican hands" on Killzone 2.
