Aliens: Colonial Marines, Alpha Protocol slated for Q1 '09 release
No, we don't believe it either, but at least Sega has confirmed that the nebulous development of Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines is still ongoing. According to a release list issued to UK site VideoGamer.com, Sega currently has the xenophobic first-person shooter pinned to the first quarter of its 2009 release calendar -- though the article questions whether said calendar is Gregorian or fiscal.
Joining Colonial Marines in the Q1 '09 release window is Obsidian's Bauer-esque spy RPG, Alpha Protocol. We've contacted Sega of America to clarify these dates and confirm the other titles on the list, including House of the Dead: Overkill (February), Sonic and the Black Knight (March) and Bayonetta (a vague "2009").

I know its a probably a bad idea to be excited about Aliens: Colonial Marines, but I can't help it, its been to long!
Haggard @ Jan 7th 2009 1:33PM
Gearbox are fairly competent devs, I wouldn't be too worried.
Don't expect Half-Life though.

"Don't expect Half-Life though."
Ironic, considering Gearbox developed the critically acclaimed Half-Life:Opposing Force expansion.
Magetto @ Jan 7th 2009 1:58PM
They made Blue Shift and Opposing Force which were on par, if not better, than the original Half-Life. They also made the Brothers in Hells games which are pretty good, so I think it's likely this came will turn out at the very least decent. Though I don't see how they can go wrong, the concept for the game is pretty similar to left 4 dead only you replace the survivors with badass space marines, and the zombies with acid-blood spewing Aliens.
Haggard @ Jan 7th 2009 2:03PM
Blue Shift and Opposing Force were alright but they didn't have the same charm as the original to me. It slipped my mind though, so consider my point foiled, sort of.

I don't rate Blue Shift too highly myself.
MariosInferno @ Jan 8th 2009 11:38AM
You must have played a different Blue Shift...

I want A:CM so bad I can taste it. And AP is really sounding like an awesome game. If the role-playing aspect of the game is done right, it could be the RPG I've been waiting for (since it doesn't seem like a D&D 3.5 game will ever come out for 360 :().
Do it right, Obsidian. DO IT RIGHT! (and they will, because their effing Obsidian).
ultragoregrind @ Jan 7th 2009 1:17PM
i too am lusting after A:CM in the worst damn way. My kingdom for a wicked Aliens based title!
Obie @ Jan 7th 2009 1:20PM
While I adore the Alien series ( esp. the first two films). I have not seen enough of this game.
I mean has there been any footage at all?
I really want this to be good, but I have feeling this game is being rushed out the door for a quick buck.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 7th 2009 1:26PM
Yeah...I'll believe that a Gearbox game will come out on time when I am holding it in my hands.
Tez @ Jan 7th 2009 1:31PM
DO WANT.
Cellien @ Jan 7th 2009 1:49PM
A:CM is my most anticipated title of 2009. I'm looking forward to KZ2 and Bionic Commando as well, but c'mon... this is Aliens people! Give us some footage!!!
mirage @ Jan 7th 2009 2:02PM
Very rarely do games released with as little hype, information, or publicity actually pan out to be good games. I hope I am wrong because I was really looking forward to both of these titles but if they are releasing in the next 3 months I would have expected to see some more in-depth previews of both.
Glen @ Jan 7th 2009 2:11PM
That's good news. I've been looking forward to Alpha Protocal for a while now.
RHague @ Jan 7th 2009 4:04PM
I'm glad to hear this. I hope they don't mess it up, because I'd like to get my hands on another solid Aliens-related title.
I heard there are lots of QTE, which doesn't please me, and a little more strategy involved that I'd prefer. These games are meant to be fast, crazy, scary action all over. I hope they put that in there as well.
karaokequeen3 @ Jan 7th 2009 4:51PM
Xenophobic? Surely that must read xenomophic? Just checkin'!
