Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino has confirmed that the PS3's White Knight Chronicles is coming to North America, though no release window has been announced. This should come as good news to JRPG fans, especially those who like having "Chronicles" in their titles.
In an interview with GameTrailers, Hino also dances around the issue of the game's online features and whether cross-region play will be possible. Check out the full interview after the break.
Speaking of other games with "Chronicles" in their title, they better release the Japanese Valkyria Chronicles expansion over here too. I'll take whatever JRPGs and JRTSs us lowly unwashed Americans can get, though.
Yeah, I love RPGs and I'm a really big fan of Level 5's work. I mean, I'm looking forward to the next Team Ico game too, but there is zero information about it, so I can't rightly say much based on zilch.
I just haven't found a compelling reason to take the PS3 plunge yet. I'm not at all much of MGS fan (overrated Kojima wankery, IMO). I was pretty interested in LBP, but I got kinda turned off when I saw Sony was seemingly indiscriminately yanking user created content which was CLEARLY non-infringing, and fair use of copyright. I will certainly pick it up when I eventually get a PS3 though, it just isn't selling me the system...
I don't find Home compelling, FF is coming to the 360, most of the big games are multiplatform... So why can't this game be my tipping point that actually gets me to make a PS3 purchase? I did almost get one for Valkyria Chronicles, but I decided instead to just to finally pick up Tales of Vesperia (awesome game BTW)... But like I said, with White Knight's release, I just might finally make the purchase. Is that so unreasonable?
Is there like one art director in Japan going around and infecting all the current gen adventure/RPG games with the same ugly high fantasy fey art style and lifeless android character animations?
Not that I know of, last I heard people were calling Level 5 the new Square Enix based on the fact Square has gone with all this futuristic BS while Level 5 is sticking to the theme we love, knights, castles etc
I may be wrong, but looking on google gave me no answers, so for the time being, I'm gunna believe they have nothing to do with each other.
That reminds me, who really owns the rights to FF7?...
the only article that I could find in regards of that is this one:
"In December 1996, Sony Computer Entertainment America agreed to a multi-title publishing deal with Square Co. Ltd., allowing the company full North American publishing and distribution rights to Square's PlayStation product line"
Just what we need, more mediocre jrpgs. Hell, even Japan thinks it's mediocre so this must be extremely awful. Japan shouldn't even bother porting these games over here until they can stop being lazy and make some good games.
Almost all of Level-5's catalogue is full of quality. Dark Cloud, Dark Chronicle and Rogue Galaxy were all great RPGs. Professor Layton was great too. Don't condemn this just because it's a JRPG or because it's Japanese. Where would the variety be if we didn't get games like this translated and released outside of Japan?
The only good series Level 5 has is Dark Cloud, the rest are shallow and boring as hell. Don't even get me started on the Dragon Quest game they did. Seeing as jrpgs have been largely the same for the last 10 years, we wouldn't be missing much if none of them got released here.
Wha? What do you mean "Don't even get me started on the Dragon Quest game they did?" I thought it was fantastic! Sorry to get you started, but I'm curious why you seem to not have a high opinion of it.
Could we come together as a gaming community and stop using the term JRPG?
I know there's a stigma surrounding RPGs that come from Japan that there's that magical formula they all seem to follow, but the same can be said of a lot of games coming from the US. You don't see games like Resistance or Halo called "USFPS" do you?
It's a RPG, through and through, let's leave it that, shall we? :)
Personally, I use the term jRPG to refer to any RPG that involves battles separated from the rest of the world, where two sides stand facing each other and take turns acting. The latest Sonic RPG, for example, I would classify as a jRPG.
That's what I was wondering. I thought this game was already for sure coming out here. Hell, I thought it was coming out soon, like February or something.
