Mad Catz reveals Street Fighter IV controllers, accessories
With a little more than a month left before Street Fighter IV hurricane kicks its way to retail, the peripheral mystics at Mad Catz have announced a bevy of SFIV-themed accessories. Now, even if you don't know your sonic boom from your yoga flame you'll at least look like you do.
Set for release alongside the anticipated fighter's February debut, the lineup includes an official Street Fighter IV controller and arcade stick for the Xbox 360 and PS3, each adorned with the game's unique art style. Additionally, those pining for a more authentic arcade experience can pick up the stick's 'Tournament Edition,' which will feature "arcade quality" components and a design overseen by SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono. Not enough? A wall scroll, console stickies and faceplates are also on the way, though we expect true fans to dye their skin green or comb their blond hair to preposterous heights before they stand a chance to defeat Sheng Long.

How much $$$ are we talkin here?
xFenixKnightx (In Memory of Ben Carmine RIP) @ Jan 7th 2009 10:10PM
Not too bad. I'm getting it for shizzle!

ice~ @ Jan 7th 2009 10:12PM
That's reasonable....Cause i'm getting it for the 360, and I don't like the controller with fighters, as everyone on the planet probably agrees...
Lionbacker @ Jan 7th 2009 10:14PM
I agree!

You know what I was just looking and you can get the Soul Caliber Arcade stick for $99.00. Better than paying $150 for the SF IV one. I might just pick that up.

MK VS DC is unplayable in xbox 360 for the sh*tty Dpad.Just impossible and if you play for a prolonged time the damn Dpad just stops working.
I'll probably buy this for the xbox 360 and maybe the LE Red controller as well.
Xbox 360 controllers are just POS.I have 2 broken controllers and another 2 that are barely functional.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 7th 2009 11:18PM
@Mr.Esc
When I still had my 360 and I got the Halo controller as a git it really helped things out. I found the regular controllers to be to slick and my fingers and hands were always slipping but that one had a texturized facing that really helped me get a better grip. The d-pad is a real problem though for fighting games. I'm not big on d-pads anyway for fighting games and prefer an arcade style joystiq and buttons which is why I like the SC IV so much.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 7th 2009 11:19PM
and also I always had problems with buttons that would get stuck in the down position with the regular 360 controllers.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Jan 7th 2009 11:53PM
Johnny #5:
That is SEVERELY overpriced for the SC4 stick.
I bought mine NEW (360 ver.) from Fry's Electronics for about $40... on clearance.
But the original MSRP was $60. It's a good stick, but don't play $90 for it...
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 7th 2009 11:57PM
Thanks for that bit of info BPOmega ... The SF IV looks overpriced at $150 ... maybe I can track a SC stick down elsewhere for around $40 ..
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 7th 2009 11:58PM
1 of the broken controllers happen to be the Halo LE controllers.
I just dropped one to the floor (it slipped from my hands while I was trying to grab something) and now the RB won't work.
The Dpad is better but not by much.
blueruckus @ Jan 8th 2009 2:04AM
99 for the SC4 PS3 fighting stick? Yeesh, that thing was 50 bucks when it came out. I picked up the 360 one for 55 when it released.
xFenixKnightx (In Memory of Ben Carmine RIP) @ Jan 8th 2009 10:46AM
Still, overall...
Xbox 360 Controller > Any other
The Sixaxis is the worst POS controller I have ever used. It feels like a 3rd party controller. I went through those damn quick. Thank God for Dualshock 3, it just feels better overall and I learned I can't rape it like I can my 360 ones.
ice~ @ Jan 9th 2009 3:50PM
The only problem i have with the PS3 controllers are R2 and L2 triggers, I just wasn't used to them when i bought my PS3 and i don't play enough to get used to em :(

Kye says: Why did no-one tell me Call of Duty 4 was so good!? @ Jan 7th 2009 10:15PM
Can't be worse than the 360s d-pad can it?
NaeemTHM @ Jan 7th 2009 10:36PM
Agreed. I might get this just to play Mega Man, Street Fighter HD, and Bionic Commando ReArmed.
Jose @ Jan 8th 2009 12:24AM
I hope you guys don't think I'm a troll or like work for a rival company, but I had Mad Catz stuff. I bought their SF controllers last generation, because I owned an Xbox and, thus, needed a functional d-pad. It was a terrible controller made of cheap plastic and the d-pad turned out to be WORSE!
Just throw down for a Hori stick, or buy a PlayStation :P (actually, how's the Wii's d-pad? I wouldn't know, because I've never fucking played one).
Kye says: Why did no-one tell me Call of Duty 4 was so good!? @ Jan 8th 2009 5:00AM
The Wii's d-pad?
You (or at least I) don't use it intensively enough to know. Any Wii game that requires you to hold the controller hoizontally is usually motion sensitive, so doesn't need the d-pad much. And with the VC titles I have played, the d-pad is good enough. Not great, just good enough.
xeleion @ Jan 8th 2009 1:04PM
Has Mad Catz' stuff gotten any better in recent years? The last time I used anything of theirs was in the last gen and it was all cheap garbage.
mmxzero @ Jan 8th 2009 1:58PM
Now the 360 and ps3 can have good dpads too*! I'll be getting one for my 360. The Wii has the best dpad this gen, particularly on the VC controller.
*Ive read that madcatz were well aware that the Saturn dpad is regarded the best when making this controller. Hopefully that means it will turn out great. The Premium arcade stick is $150 because they are going for high quality with Sanwa parts, there is also a cheaper stick they are making. And no Jose, you're still a troll.
Jose @ Jan 8th 2009 2:53PM
Well then I'm a troll, and you're fairly warned: Fair enough.

It's evil.
wocyob @ Jan 8th 2009 1:07AM
i dont like change meaning i dont like the r1 and r2 buttons
Superstar90 @ Jan 8th 2009 1:37AM
Well, I was talking about Skrulls.
Biggie @ Jan 7th 2009 10:15PM
Could this finally be it, a good d-pad for the 360? Na, get real it is made by Mad Catz! I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.
J.Goodwin @ Jan 7th 2009 10:47PM
Might be manufactured here but designed in Japan. That has happened before, IIRC, the SEGA Dreamcast arcade stick was a rebranded Japanese stick (and thank god because it was awesome). Can't recall who sold it here (maybe SEGA sold it under their brand).
Shimrra @ Jan 7th 2009 10:19PM
damn I wasnt in the mood to get another pad but I am getting it. The six button pad reminds me of the dreamcast six button arcade pad by some unknown company and it was great for alot of the capcom fighters.
LegendaryRedass @ Jan 7th 2009 10:23PM
Nice. Reminds me of my old 6-button for the genesis. It was optional too. I spent many hours using it to figure out the fatalities on Mortal Kombat II.
Shangheli @ Jan 7th 2009 10:25PM
any reviews?

"Reveals" as if we hadn't all seen them on Amazon for over a month. No big secret here guys.
capt_carl @ Jan 7th 2009 10:48PM
It's like my Genesis six-button controller all over again! :D
VampireHunter Z @ Jan 8th 2009 1:30PM
I was never a fan of 6 buttons on the face of my controller. I sometimes have to look down to see the buttons. Then again I probably only spent 10 minutes with a Genesis controller like this. In theory it should be easier to pull off combos. Then again it's made by Mad Catz and they don't have a history of quality products.
I need someone to buy this for me so that I don't get shopper's remorse.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 7th 2009 10:48PM
I like having the L1 and R1 buttons the facing of the controller. One thing I hate about playing SSF2THD is remapping the more damaging L1 and R1 buttons to the facing buttons. I would prefer an arcade stick but I think the controller will be more feasible in terms of it's costs.
James @ Jan 7th 2009 11:18PM
that d-pad looks just as bad as the 360 d-pad
Skunk Ape @ Jan 7th 2009 11:53PM
It may be Mad Catz but it's the best were getting until Sega gets it's head out of it's ass and releases a Saturn controller for the PS3 like they did for the PS2. The dualshock 3 isn't too bad, but it's no Saturn controller. I'm gonna go out on a limb and trust Mad Catz here and buy my first peripheral made by them since the Genesis days.
ryan @ Jan 8th 2009 1:17AM
+1 for the Saturn pad love. That was seriously the best controller ever made for fighters besides sticks.
This one looks to rekindle that old feeling in it's design, I'm seriously considering it for 360 now (was gonna get a PS3 for it).
Ghaleon @ Jan 8th 2009 10:45AM
There is already a USB Saturn pad. Check eBay.
ryan @ Jan 8th 2009 2:26PM
Cool, but they don't exactly work for 360 unless you have some serious skillz. And I'm not about to go through that trouble.
GalacticaPhantome @ Jan 8th 2009 12:29AM
The "Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition Arcade Stick" is legit stuff people. It uses genuine Sanwa arcade parts and are tested by the pros, so the high end sticks are well worth the money. Sanwa parts are the highest quality arcade parts with long lasting micro switches and super precise contacts.
150 bucks for a high quality arcade stick is a small price to pay especially since the stick will easily last through the next generation of gaming. Sanwa arcade parts are just that good.
Akravator @ Jan 8th 2009 4:41AM
I have got my fingers crossed to hear reviews on those D-pads.
I would love to play a fighting game on the 360. . . but have been held back with those trashy controllers
Shadow Hog @ Jan 8th 2009 1:03AM
Eh. While this would be a godsend for fighters, where controls can be remapped every which way, the fact that A, the button most assigned "jump" in platformers, is all the way on the bottom right makes the thing rather useless for 2D platformers. Which is a damn shame, considering it's aping the Sega Saturn's controller, which was one of the finest for 2D gaming ever devised.
Evil Vin @ Jan 8th 2009 1:44AM
I think I would have bought this if the RT was mapped as LB. Otherwise this looks to be an awesome controller even for none SFIV things.
tmmoore_nc @ Jan 8th 2009 2:31AM
"MadCatz"
Stopped reading right there. I do not trust them one bit with gaming hardware.
