A new report, entitled "Media Democracy," by research firm Deloitte claims that the average media-consuming Brit spends 6.6 hours per week playing video games. The most staggering finding in the report is that a quarter of respondents owned a Wii, while another quarter said they intended to buy one by the end of this year. That would mean the Brits owning a Wii would outnumber those who assisted in the great Adipose breeding program.
The research report also found that gaming is now considered "family time" for those between the ages of 26 and 42, with interest in the activity declining after 40. Speaking of which -- we can't confirm whether The Doctor has picked up a Wii, but we do know Her Majesty has done some Wii Sports bowling.

Frankly I just view these kinds of post as flame bait. It's not like anyone doesn't know the Wii is extremely popular. Just sayin'....
Also we are certainly not stupid, you stupid STUPID yank. At least I'm assuming a yank. Or maybe you're Dutch. God damn Dutch...

Your average Wii owner doesn't play more than 4 games per year.
Heck, I'm a Joystiq reader and I don't play more than 6 or so on average, per year.
Long live the hardcore, long live the casual! They can coexist, honest.

I already own more than 20 Wii games, and most of them are good. Okay, they're not all AAA games, but they're still fun.

Why shouldn't it overtake the PS2 eventually? It's selling better than the PS2 did, after all.

The whole "gaming declines after 40" thing is just stastistical bullshit.
There is a real cut-off point, everyone 35 and under grew up with games, we were about 10 when we got our first commodore/spectrum/sega.
So people who were then about 16-18 (and were out dating and having a life) then saw us kids playing games, and forever associated them with childishness, and never caught The Bug.
When we hit 40 we'll all still be gaming, its in our blood forever.
