Rumor: New Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six this year
CVG claims to have information, originating from a "secret mouthpiece," that indicates Ubisoft is ready to roll out new installments of Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six this year. Strangely, the mouthpiece forgot to note if these would be sequels to the original titles, to GR: Advanced Warfighter and Rainbow Six Vegas (unlikely) ... or totally new franchises altogether.
In other news, a secret Nintendo mouthpiece tells Joystiq that Mario will be featured in some product this year. Hard to believe, we know, but you're just gonna have to trust us on this one.

Holy sh*t guys did you hear there is going to be a new Madden game this year? I mean ZOMG.
ice~ @ Jan 7th 2009 1:52PM
Dr. Jeckyl, give us your sources or it isn't happening.
Joel @ Jan 7th 2009 1:36PM
I really hope it is a new franchise instead of a continuation of the current story...can't wait though either way for a new ghost recon.
Knight Marquise @ Jan 7th 2009 2:12PM
Same here....I have really enjoyed the GR:AW series. Ready for another one.
Duke @ Jan 7th 2009 2:35PM
The sad truth is that I will buy any Ghost Recon or Rainbow game they release..like a lemming.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 7th 2009 2:52PM
And yet, strangely, you won't buy any Lemmings games.
Isn't it ironic?
Duke @ Jan 7th 2009 3:05PM
Yes, yes that is ironic.
player66 @ Jan 7th 2009 1:37PM
Is the secret mouthpiece that voice in your head? Everyone has one of those, right? (why are you looking at me that way?)
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 7th 2009 1:37PM

Mr Khan @ Jan 7th 2009 1:41PM
It's going to be a good year for Ubisoft, i think. BG&E2, a new rollout of Tom Clancy (including a new Splinter Cell), TMNT, and Red Steel 2
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 7th 2009 1:48PM
I'm curious how BG&E2 is going to turn out.
I'm sure you can also add another Naruto game for the xbox 360.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 7th 2009 1:43PM
Here's hoping that the next Ghost Recon is a bit more like GR2 or Summit Strike in that your character carries less computer equipment and moar BAD-ASS.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 7th 2009 1:46PM
Just as long as my AI donkeys don't stand around in the middle of a hailstorm of bullets after I repeatedly order them to take cover behind that building, then Ubi can do whatever they want with the GR franchise and I'll still pick it up.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 7th 2009 1:49PM
LoL, true. Squad command has always been a bit spotty in certain GR titles. The thing that I used to hate about GRAW and GRAW 2 is how you had to use all of this extra computer gear and had things popping up all over your HUD...it was like a computer game within a computer game.
ice~ @ Jan 7th 2009 1:54PM
Maybe they'll use voice squad commands like the ones from Endwar...it could happen!
343 Guilty Fart @ Jan 7th 2009 1:58PM
Eh, I've always liked the interface. It makes it more tactical and less run-and-gun. The interface in GRAW2 is so much more streamlined from the one in the first game. While the GRAW series hasn't had the greatest storylines the gameplay is absolutely fantastic. One of my favorites the more I think about it.
*=Lord Negatron of the XBots=* @ Jan 7th 2009 3:26PM
I hear that General!
As for me, i would like Rainbow to come out with less clunk more spunk!...wait a second..
I mean, less buttons to interact with , like climbing a ladder shouldn't require pressing a button. By the time you shamble into position online you are dead 90% of the time playing against a decent-good team.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 7th 2009 4:10PM
True that, Negatron, but..."more spunk"?!?! WTF?!?!
LoL.
I'd just love for the GR titles to be more like the originals and GR2 + Summit Strike. To me, the lack of a UAV that beamed all your enemies' coordinates to you DID make the game more tactical...if you know where they are already, all that's left is to run and gun since the element of surprise is gone.
And seriously, pressing a button to climb the ladder...that *ish* should be gone in this next iteration of R6...hopefully they can make the movement go just a tiny bit faster, though...I don't want the next R6 to be a copy of CoD4, but when an enemy slumps slower than a bullet-timed Max Payne, we have a problem.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Jan 7th 2009 1:53PM
this is Maddening... get it?
Magetto @ Jan 7th 2009 1:54PM
I don't know about a new Rainbow Six. Vegas 2 just came out last year, but I could see a new Ghost Recon coming out. Either way enough of these, where's our new Splinter Cell Ubisoft? There hasn't been any news on it, and the last game came out in 2006. I need my splinter cell fix. :(
Miss So Hee Purple @ Jan 7th 2009 2:00PM

over again.
Professor Lario @ Jan 7th 2009 2:03PM
Wait... I understand the part about you maybe not liking shooters and I don't have an issue with that opinion, but you have an issue with ethnicity in games? Have you actually played Rainbow 6?
baby sea tuna @ Jan 7th 2009 2:32PM
Seriously. R6 Vegas sported a veritable UN of squadmates.
Come to think of it, so did GRAW. Shit, they even had a Mexican woman sniper, if I remember correctly.
Duke @ Jan 7th 2009 2:39PM
Obviously a complaint from someone who hasn't played these games yet. Hell, Rainbow is an international counter-terrorism group and one of the main characters is Ding Chavez.
Maybe play a game before spouting off.
*=Lord Negatron of the XBots=* @ Jan 7th 2009 3:30PM
You are right Miss So Hee...
I don't get an erection from playing Paris Hilton's Bejeweled.
Now men with guns working as a teaaam...Mmmm...
COFFEE BREAK!
Professor Lario @ Jan 7th 2009 1:56PM
I have been itch'n for more RB6 ever since I finished Vegas 1 and 2. Great co-op games.
AlterEgo @ Jan 7th 2009 2:04PM
I hope they re-think the ideas. GRAW2 and R6V2 were WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too similar to the first games that they nowhere NEAR warranted the $60. And both were short.
$120 Wasted.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 7th 2009 2:34PM
I never played Vegas 2 (for the reason that you stated) but GRAW 2 was a notable improvement over its predecessor.
AlterEgo @ Jan 7th 2009 2:35PM
It had minor improvements, but it was MUCH too short for me.
Maybe because I didn't play the online aspect I felt like I didn't get my money's worth.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Jan 7th 2009 2:46PM
Both GRAW 2 and R6-2 felt like expansion packs or DLC rather than proper squeals. Definitely agree with you that they weren't worth the cost of entry.
GRAW 2 for the PC is a different story though. COMPLETELY different from the console version and worth the money.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 7th 2009 2:51PM
I agree that the sequels shouldn't have been full priced games, which is why I didn't buy them, but if you didn't play the first ones then they were definitely worth it. I just think they could have waited longer than 11 months or so between the games and their sequels. I feel the same way about Call of Duty (which is why I plan on only buying the even ones, and borrowing the odd ones.)
AlterEgo @ Jan 7th 2009 3:23PM
I agree with you both. I don't play PC games so I had no clue about the PC version...that's good and I wish the console versions would follow suit.
As far as not buying, I wish I wouldn't have had such an itch to play at that time. Although the same can be said for a lot of the games I buy ;(
Vidikron @ Jan 7th 2009 4:40PM
I boought and loved both.
Psycho300x @ Jan 7th 2009 2:31PM
OH NO, PLEASE NO DON'T DO THIS!
Deck @ Jan 7th 2009 2:41PM
Another Rainbow Six? R6V2 just came out last year. Hrmmm.. interesting. Well if it is.. I am pretty sure it wouldn't be Vegas again. If I remember right, I think I remember them saying they wouldn't be going back to Vegas again.
A new Ghost Recon would be nice though.
greg @ Jan 7th 2009 2:44PM
R6 Vegas got sent back the same day i got it in the mail. However R6V2 was 10 times better. That was an awesome game, and the online was hella sick. I played that for months. I hope we get another r6vegas this year. I didn't care for GRAW that much though.
Alien Lord @ Jan 7th 2009 2:54PM
I'm much more interested in anything with Aliens in the title then anything with Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six in the title.
Professor Lario @ Jan 7th 2009 2:57PM
I am not sure if you were serious or not, but I laughed out loud.
Alien Lord @ Jan 7th 2009 3:15PM
Pro US games tend to suck so a game were you aren't a US terrorist is a lot more fun.
Professor Lario @ Jan 7th 2009 3:30PM
Oh wow - you were serious.......
The Dark Wayne @ Jan 7th 2009 5:15PM
did anyone realize that the plots of GRAW 1 and 2 were basically you enforcing the North American Union and thus a large part of the New World Order conspiracies?
Duke @ Jan 7th 2009 6:07PM
Are there a lot of games where you play as a US terrorist?
