Okami is easily my GOTY.

Yeah, when it came out for the PS2.
It's just a remake, it doesn't deserve goty.
I'm for World of Goo, which I personally find incredibly sad because it shows how little effort is being made for real physical Wii games.
A small downloadable game beat every release on the Wii.... Just sad.

I agree, it is sad that such a fabulous system got so little attention this year. Q1 and Q2 weren't so bad (for Brawl and No More Heroes respectively), but after that attention kind of died down, and there wasn't a huge software showing around the holidays, which surprised me.
That said, my vote will have to go to Brawl. Was, is and always will be fun.
Let's just hope in 2009 Nintendo will step up and give us some great games. Happy New Year, everyone!

Hard to tell. I personally think that the year was bad in terms of games.
The one that I played the most was Mario Kart Wii for sure.
So I go for Mario Kart Wii.

Respectively, I still need to try World of Goo,
But Super Smash Bros. Brawl gets my vote.
It's replay value, character selection, stage creator, story mode, epic cutscenes, the ability to turn into a giant Jiggly-Puff...all of these led to my selection.

So you're saying that if my copy of Boom Blox just arrived today from the UK, and it's still unwrapped, that I should go play it?

When I think of GOTY, I think of a game that puts it all together. The problem is that, while the Wii did have some excellent and very good games, they had problems.
No More Heroes - EXCELLENT game in most respects, but it had some infuriating camera problems, the side jobs were really pretty lame, and the city hub itself really didn't offer much.
Brawl - A good game that my family plays the most, but Space Emissary is pretty bad. And, by most people's accounts (although not necessarily my own experience), the online multiplayer was poor.
Mario Kart - GREAT online multiplayer, but I hear a bit of criticism for the tracks and the general lack of improvement over the previous version.
These are some good games, and while I enjoyed Boom Blox and de Blob, they aren't the kind of play-your-pants off games that the above are. I'm just not sure there's any of these that really got everything right, while offering us some really new or innovative play.
Goo was the highest rated Wii game for 2008, and it really did get a lot right, as did LostWinds. I know many complained about the pricing for DLC on My Life as King, but I think it's a very good game that still gets a lot of play.
I'd be tempted to make these Wiiware games collectively the game of the year because, while there have been some dogs, Wiiware has done a very good job in bringing a variety of games as well as some very original, addictive gameplay.

There was more then enough good games to please me:
Super Smash Bros Brawl
No More Heroes
Star Wars The Force Unleashed
de Blob
Rock Band 2
Guitar Hero: World Tour
Mario Kart Wii
Sure it could have been better but 2009 looks great!

Choosing from my small selection I say mariokart, though I have to say i was disapointed, its the same as the last one with a few bikes, and the bikes completely rule out the need for karts.
also there was only 32 levels, each taking 3 mins to complete, I was really surprised by that. I was expecting more, hoping double.
maths= 32x3= 96 minutes of introductery gameplay, the rest is replay value.

Without a doubt, World of Goo

Tough one!
I gotta say, even with all the great games that came out this year, the one that's gotten the densest play time and monopolized my Wii time since it came out is:
Wii Music
I freaking love that game SO much. I can't not play it whenever I look at my Wii.
My GOTY - Wii Music

I am tired of people saying that Super Smash Bros. was a great game and the best of the year! It has HORRID online gameplay and the single player was weak at best. Fortunately I only rented it and didn't waste my hard earned money on a poorly made game. Granted Mario Kart should have had more tracks but it was the best game for families and for replay value.
But the game of the year is: World of Goo. It is fun and difficult yet not too difficult. And it is easy to pick up and play yet it has a lot of replay value. Great game. So I respect anyone that says Mario Kart and World of Goo is game of the year but anyone that says SSBB is GOTY, get real!

I see you only mention single player and online multiplayer...
It's because you have no real friends, isn't it? You can tell us. Personally me and my best friend have gotten about 70 hours of gameplay out of it together, plus some fun online experiences. Everytime he comes over my house we're still playing either MarioKart, SSBB, or World of Goo together. Brawl doesn't get old if you have real life friends.

What is wrong with Brawl's singleplayer? It's just as good as any other fighter's singleplayer. I've played singleplayer on Brawl more than multiplayer. I just do regular matches against CPU's. My only problem is that in the true singleplayer modes you can't turn items off. I also play Brawl whenever I have friends over or go to over to a friend's place. Online isn't really necessary. It would be nice and I am mad about the terrible effort Nintendo put into it, but I'm perfectly content fighting CPU's and real people in the room with me.

Man, I had such a great time with Wii this year! No More Heroes, Boom Blox Okami, Lost Winds... all great choices.

I enjoyed No More Heroes, but I didn't finish it... I played the heck out of Brawl in the spring and haven't played much of it since...and I suck at Mega Man 9 to no end, even though I think it's spectacular.
Mario Kart Wii is a game that I not only "finished" (i.e. unlocked everything), but that I still go back to anyway. If you're counting "game of the year" by sheer number of hours poured into it, then it would win hands down.
I vote Mario Kart Wii as well!

I'm hearing a lot of good things about World of Goo, but I haven't played it, so for me GotY has got to be Okami. Blah blah blah port blah blah blah PS2, it's a fantastic game, port or not.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Local Multiplayer is great unlike Mario Kart Wii.
Online is bad, but I rather play with human beings next to me anyway and since I'm not paying extra for that I don't care. So much to see and do and overall polish gives Smash the win.
Here is list of my top 5 wiigames in 2008

What was bad about local multiplayer in Mario Kart? Hell, you can even play splitscreen online!

#1 SSB Brawl - I might be one of the few people who actually likes Subspace, but even then, that's a sideshow to the multiplayer, which is still a staple of every get together with friends.
#2 Mario Kart Wii - Playing online seems to never get old. Even when I get raped by a blue shell twice in a row, I'm always coming back for more.
#3 Tiger Woods PGA '09 - Admittedly, this is the first game in the series that I own, but its pretty addicting. The swing mechanic works rather well, the putting can be mastered, and there's 21 courses, which means 378 individual holes of golf. And the party mode is not a gimmick, its a blast to play with friends.

Tiger Woods 09 is another great selection. I don't really like golf, but this is the game I wanted to exist after I mastered golfing in Wii Sports.

I think the wii game I played the most this year was smash brothers followed closely by Madden 09 and World of Goo.
Out of those 3 I think I enjoyed World of Goo the most. So it gets my vote.

Im gonna have to say No More Heroes. The first time i ever played i was just amazed at how fun it was. It was just this really unique experience i doubt you could find anywhere else. My second favorite would have to be CastleVania:Judgement. I didn't say brawl for GOTY because thats like saying The Godfather is the best movie, it just doesn't count.

Brawl gets my GOTY because unlike critics who judge games as an "art" (nothing against it, but is that really why we're buying them.....I think not) I judge them on entertainment value. And there is nothing more entertaining than sitting in a dorm lounge with a 60 inch TV, 15 people, and a copy of Brawl.

I personally did not feel like anything out on the wii was good enought to constitute game of the year. (If it had to be one it would be Brawl or Heroes) I don't feel like these games just put forth the effort that was put out on other consoles so im gonna betray my console of choice, yet again, and say the GOTY was Metal Gear Solid 4.

If we're just talkin' Wii games, then in order from best to good:
1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
2. World of Goo
3. MarioKart Wii
4. No More Heroes
5. Okami
However, if this is just like, any games released this year then my number one would totally be Dead Space. That stuff was kickin'.

Mario Kart Wii for online multiplayer
Super Smash Bros. Brawl for competitive local multiplayer
Boom Blox for casual local multiplayer
out of the dozens of games I own, those three games got the most use this year. World of Goo had a good run, but I maybe only played that for a week before deleting it to make room for more downloads. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition also took up about a month of my gameplaying time, but that wasn't really released this year, but it was new to me.

My game of the year would be Okami, but if that doesn't count it would be Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Runner ups are de Blob, World of Goo, and Boom Blox.
I really don't understand why everyone like Mario Kart so much. It is easily the worst in the series. They took the already too overpowered items and made them even more overpowered, removing much of the skill from the game. I haven't touched the game since a few weeks after it came out. I want a console Mario Kart more like Mario Kart DS.

Super Smash Bros Brawl easily kiks all the other games' ass. Almost. Hmm. Tales of Symphonia or Brawl. Yep, Brawl, but then tales.
