Brutal Legend began with multiplayer (don't you remember?)

Of course, being video game experts, we vividly remember every detail of that November 2007 IGN Australia interview with Tim Schafer, wherein he revealed that Double Fine actually "tackled [multiplayer] first and that's how [it] came up with the core gameplay mechanic that [it's] now using in the single player game." Want more details on the multiplayer mechanic? According to Tim "Freaking" Schafer, "It's more focused on ... large battles" – what IGN calls, and Tim confirms, is real "army versus army" stuff.
Wow, we can't believe MTV Multiplayer didn't remember that interview. A classic!

...Is this virgin territory for Tim Schafer? A game that evolved from its multiplayer mode? If it is... I'm scared.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 8th 2009 8:51PM
I didn't like Psychonauts.
I'm sorry I had this bottle up for too much time but I can't take it anymore, I'm don't like psychonauts I'm sorry gaming industry ;_;.
Taco_Hell @ Jan 8th 2009 9:16PM
Well, apology not accepted. If you want to apologize you have to beat the Meat Circus 382 times, then! You have to give every single persona a copy of Psychonauts, yes, even yourself. Then, we might forgive you...might.
Taco_Hell @ Jan 8th 2009 9:17PM
Person, not persona cause then that would involve a way to get into video games and that would cost a lot of money and is probably impossible.
Tiptup300 @ Jan 8th 2009 9:18PM
I believe every genre should have co-op in them. When was the last time there was a co-op driving game for instance?
Crusin Exotica, yeah an n64 game
Seriously, some people have one xbox, one tv, and friends who want to play coop. Why isn't splitscreen implemented into everything these days?
Intangible 360 @ Jan 8th 2009 9:20PM
I'll forgive you, but only because I don't like Beyond Good and Evil.
MowDownJoe @ Jan 8th 2009 9:43PM
Strike 1: You hate Psychonauts.
Strike 2: You brought this up as a reply to my comment where I was looking for reassurance.
Strike 3: You derailed my comment thread.
YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!
Tiptup300 @ Jan 9th 2009 1:06AM
It's cool though, since I tried to derail the derailed train, so now we're on a plane, but it's like a kickass plane.
Markusdragon @ Jan 9th 2009 4:09AM
This reply thread is filled with blasphemy D:
Levi @ Jan 9th 2009 9:57AM
lol @ derailed comment comment
I have Psyconauts on my list of games, to check out, probably because of these threads.

"It's more focused on ... large battles" – what IGN calls, and Tim confirms, is real "army versus army" stuff.
So its an RTS online, yet an action game for single player?
Courtney @ Jan 8th 2009 8:43PM
Yeah, I seriously want some more details on this. Are we talking PVP, or vs AI, both, c'mon, give us some details Tim!
I didn't think I could get more excited for this game, but if it has a good multiplayer component...wow, just wow.
Trickob @ Jan 8th 2009 8:56PM
I hope somebody at MTV multiplayer got fired for that one. Straight up.
In all seriousness, this is the most excited that I've ever been about a video game that I know very little about.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 8th 2009 8:56PM
You know from everything I have seen about this game it just doesn't excite me. It looks juvenile in it's story and slapstick humor. The only thing that makes me hold out hope is that it is Tim freaking Schafer who made the game. Psychonauts anyone? One of the best games ever created. Even with Mr. Schafer and the comedic offerings of Jack Black I still think the actual gameplay mechanic that I have seen looks less than stellar.
AwesomeTown @ Jan 8th 2009 9:18PM
I didn't think that I could have been more excited for this game. Well, I am.
Rocko @ Jan 8th 2009 9:40PM
OOHH snap mtv multiplayer! You gonna take that?!?!
Cephas @ Jan 8th 2009 9:42PM
According to my RSS reader, this game is called "Brütal Legend"
Benjamin Gilbert @ Jan 8th 2009 10:52PM
Hahahaha, "Wow, we can't believe MTV Multiplayer didn't remember that interview. A classic!" Jerk! :)
Christopher Grant @ Jan 9th 2009 9:47AM
I mean you totally remembered that interview from Nov. 07 on IGN Australia, RIGHT?!
Ihavepants @ Jan 8th 2009 11:26PM
I wish MUSIC TELEVISION didn't bother with games.
Christopher Grant @ Jan 9th 2009 9:46AM
You realize MTV Multiplayer is one of the best game sites on the web, right?
You're also reading Joystiq.com, which is owned by AOL – formerly America Online. Do you wish we still did just dial-up access too? :-D
Ihavepants @ Jan 9th 2009 10:57AM
Well from an Australian perspective with never having access to cable television (and not wanting it), perhaps I shouldn't be voicing what is merely a passing observation. It's just the only time I've ever taken any notice of them is when they do something terrible.
I read Joystiq for the personalities making the post, and for the fact that most terrible comments become invisible so I don't have to read them, I never think of it as a corporate powered blog. That's why I thought you needed so many ads.
Christopher Grant @ Jan 9th 2009 4:27PM
well, I won't comment on the quantity of our ads, but I would remind you that corporations like making money. (from an editorial perspective, I like being able to pay my writers to they can eat!)
re: MTV, it's a brand now, much like AOL. Divorce whatever other products they may make from your mind, and just each on its own merit. I'm sure you'll find Multiplayer to be an exceptionally thoughtful gaming blog.
Levi @ Jan 9th 2009 9:57AM
I don't know much of anything about this game... what's it going to play like?
