One time at school I used shutter glasses to see a 3D graphics on a computer. The shutters would time up with the refresh rate on the screen so one eye only sees one imagine at a time. The monitor ran at 120hz so each eye would see 60hz. A little low for a CRT but you'd get used to it. I'm not sure how it's done otherwise. I imagine it gets a clearer picture than if two views are always displayed at once except the glasses are expensive and you have to be looking at the screen directly for them to work. I'm not bothered by this since 3D is definetly worth it.

Trolls nowadays...no manners,no skills, no soul. They don't make them like they used to...

Also if you have to troll, do it correctly.

Good oldschool response like 'Still waiting for their 4D tech demos....' would still probably get you -1's but at least it wouldn't look so pathetic.

Those goshdarn kids....

This does look pretty awesome...although if I were Sony, I'd much rather focus on perfecting it and making sure this thing doesn't give you migraines and make you throw up.

If Mirror's Edge can make people suffer, one can only wonder how they'll react to this...

I'm not sure how they're doing this 3D effect. From what I've seen based on the few pictures from CES, the people demoing the 3D effect are wearing 3D glasses in which one lens is polarized in an opposite direction from the other lens.

If that's true, you wouldn't be able to do this with just any LCD display. You'd need one that can polarize it's screen.

Bah, Mr. ESC is a troll. I'm surprised they let him back in with his vindictive personal attacks. I don't think I've ever seen a blogger edit someone's post with the exception of him, and around here that says a lot.

In any case as much as I don't like Sony and get really frustrated with the PS3 and lack of focus on much needed updates I still enjoy gaming on it and messin' around in home. The 3D gaming sounds interesting, so long as they don't rely on cheese 3D gimmicks and the games are designed around said ability.

have they even considered that no one will want to wear mass manufacturered glasses the whole time playing a game? or for that matter, watching a 3d movie for 2.5 hours? what about people that wear glasses for vision?

no thanks..

I'm still angry at Nintendo for DOING NOTHING WITH HEAD-TRACKING.

Boom Blox would have been awesome with that. Why in the world did EA take it out of the game. They could have included the 3d glasses in the package and it would have sold 5x better. (Still sold great but any game packaged with something sells great mario kart wii, wiifit, wiiplay)

About a year later, and now Sony uses the idea. Well Nintendo had a chance to use it. Nintendo totally fumbled the ball and Sony picked it up and ran it in for a touch down. Wipeout would be freaken amazing with headtracking 3d.

This is different than head tracking. Head tracking requires the user to move around and gives the illusion of 3-d based on your position. This 3-d application allows you to sit on your couch and have everything on screen popping out at you like an actual 3-d movie ala Beowulf.

I agree with you that I would be content with just head tracking for now. The 3-d technology would be great as well and imagine if you had both.

Serious Question for people posting that PS3 is dead:

If Sony / PS3 is really 'dead' why are you posting comments about it online? I mean I don't goto an Atari 2600 website & post "hey guys...the 2600 is Dead!"

Think about it....

cool. im all for new tech. i just dont want to have to do anything extra to use the new tech (like the motion controls i've grown to dislike now in my Wii and PS3). if i can just sit back and be a fat lard and have shit jumping out at me, count me in.

OMG... I knew I should have gone to CES!!!

Please Sony, make this happen ASAP (and please tell me it will work on a newer 52" 1080p LCD - and I won't have to buy a new one).

I would put my credit card on the line right now to play Wipeout HD in 3D.

Makes sense. Sony being movies and media, movies going in the direction of 3D, and Sony trying to cross-reference it.

I'm just surprised that 3D is coming back. I figured that was something that had gone the way of disco and drive-in theatres.

The new 3-D technology is completely different than wearing those red and blue glasses. In fact, the glasses look like regular sunglasses in comparison.

This #-D application will do until I have an actual 3-D holographic display in the air. Now that would be pure TITS!

I always thought of myself as the Charlie Brown of Joystiq.

Jakka could be Linus and Anticrawl Lucy.
Samfish is like Joe Cool and Ska Oreo could be Schroeder.

Now that if I could find my Red Hair girl, Lucy and Peppermint Patty...

Also C'mon Anticrawl grow up you were the first one to attack me (DBZ Article if I'm not mistaken). If you get the horns is not my bloody fault.

Anyhow I thought Alien was going to be pretty cool guy, killing aliens and not afraid of everyone thinking he is a d*uche.

Insulting Sony is so 2005, adapt with the times buddy.

Maybe you should check that article again Mr. ESC. I assure you I was level headed and only commented on how cel shading isn't a sort cut with anime games, it only makes sense and fit. You lead the mindless personal attacks friend.

Your attempt for twisting the fabrics of reality won't work this time.

I said Cell shading used in DBZ was like the same they were using in all their games and that they could at least put more effort on it like in POP in which everything looks detailed but still like a cartoon. Many Anime games have pulled off a better cartoon render.
I don’t remember the name of the game but everything looked like it was drawn like in a manga or a Graphic Novel.

Then you said I wanted realistic balls Om nom nom or something before I went all Kei Kurouno in your posts.
