EA Sports coming to PlayStation Home with dedicated space, games

Electronic Arts has announced its first foray into PlayStation Home with a dedicated EA Sports label game space, the EA Sports Complex. Set to appear in the Home open beta this spring, the space will contain live leaderboards for all of the EA Sports label's titles, along with games designed specifically for the space (multiplayer poker and an arcade-style Formula 1 racer have been revealed thus far).
EA Sports president Peter Moore said in a press release, "As part of our continued commitment to the connected experience and the digitization of our business, the EA SPORTS Complex is a rich new online environment that presents a compelling and immersive social gaming experience for the global sports audience." Come again, Peter? English.
As you can see in the first released image of the space, there will be ads aplenty. In addition to banners and other signage, the space will feature multiple video walls displayingads trailers for upcoming EA Sports titles. EA has confirmed that it is working with SCEA on additional Home spaces for its Games and Casual labels. Check out a video walkthrough of the EA Sports Complex after the break.

Very good news for Home :) haven't used it much since it came out, though the red bull space just released so i shall try it out.
Hopefully more companies follow in EAs footsteps.

fuck ea wont be using it.
Kodros @ Jan 8th 2009 3:59PM
EA Fanboys (are there any?) would reply...
Of course EA will be using it.

i for one am glad to see advertising in home. If they're trailers or banners that you can view or not view as you please, and you can walk/job/dance past them, big effing deal. I dont know why so many people are anti advertising, as if on their way to school/work they dont see mcdonalds, carls jr, in n' out billboards everywhere.
In shot, advertising=another source or rev for sony...like any other electronics company, with more money they'll eventually sink more money into a higher quality service and new features...(at least this is my theory)

Cool, this is starting to go where I hoped Home would go: Adding "game launch" areas where you could meet and chat w/ other players and set up games.
I know not a lot of people enjoy Home, but if you can resist temptations of the Quincy, and not be an ass, it's kind of a fun way to add to your friend list.
uh-oh polio @ Jan 8th 2009 1:53PM
wtf, this looks awesome.
Finally some gambling.
KHCloud @ Jan 8th 2009 1:56PM
I think playing Texas Hold'em with random strangers will be a lot of fun. Hopefully more publishers will follow behind EA. What would an EA Sims space include? Actually living the life of your avatars??
Ordeith @ Jan 8th 2009 2:23PM
You could do this on XBLA for.. years?
If you want to know what it is like.
KHCloud @ Jan 8th 2009 2:28PM
No doubt, but I mean it's not exactly like it isn't a feature I am looking forward to on PSN. It's not gonna see any system.

Nice....So does this mean Home Support for? Madden 2010, NCAA Basketball, NBA Live 2010 and others??
borland502 (SDF Macross) @ Jan 8th 2009 2:07PM
Huh? It's like Home is gaining momentum or something. Certainly they need those ad dollars.
SoulBlade @ Jan 8th 2009 2:14PM
if the experience is cool, i won't care about the ads at all. if the ads get in the way.. like say when you click on a link and instead of navigating to said link you get taken to an annoying ad page.. then i'd be less inclined to use it.
butaneko @ Jan 8th 2009 2:08PM
I knew Home was missing something. I guess that je ne sais quoi was Ronaldinho banners.
Viva Playstation Home!

Looks awesome. This is the potential of Home. Can't wait until more game sites show up.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jan 8th 2009 5:56PM
me too. i honestly dont use Home all that much right now because this kind of stuff isn't there yet. if they have more spaces for specific games i like to play, i'll be all over that shit again. but right now, it seems like i've already done everything there is to do in Home.
bobartig @ Jan 8th 2009 2:25PM
Does Playstation Home's world support instancing? PA had mentioned rather critically that you often had to queue for long periods of time to play unimpressive mini games (which might lead to you getting virtually raped). So would EA's colosseum require waiting to play a few hands of poker?
And that top picture, that's pretty much what the lobby looks like on the west side of the 211 building on campus.
kbomb1upc @ Jan 8th 2009 2:28PM
Cool... I just wish they had in game money that we could gamble to win stuff like clothes and houses.

Might want to replace your keyboard.

I love how they boast getting to watch ads for their games as one of the "features".

Dude don't be so cynical. It's like adding little flowers every now and then to Death Valley. In the end its still a desert.

Boxing Ring: 1 on 1 avatar sparring.
Basketball Court: 3 on 3 half-court scrimmages.
Football Field: Potential drills competitions or even 5 on 5 two-hand touch.
Soccer pitch: Potential 1 on 1, Goalie Vs Striker games. If not a fitting 3-4 on 3-4 style match play.

That is amazing omg there is no touching home this year. XBLA can't compete when it gets on point.
Good thing i own all the systems
