Red Sox Dustin Pedroia declared MLB 09 cover athlete

Boston Red Sox player Dustin Pedroia will grace the cover of MLB 09, appearing exclusively on PS2, PS3 and PSP. The 2007 American League Rookie of the Year helped the Red Sox win their seventh World Series Title that year.

"Dustin Pedroia has made a tremendous impact on an already storied Boston Red Sox organization and was an integral part to their 2007 World Series victory," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA. "We are excited to have him become part of our MLB franchise, represent MLB 09 The Show, and join the impressive roster of MLB stars who have served as previous cover athletes."

This is the first video game to don Pedroia. Previous MLB cover stars include Vladimir Guerrero, David Wright, Eric Chavez, Troy Glaus, Shawn Green, Adam Dunn and teammate David Ortiz.

This cover will make it a difficult purchase for me.

just tear out the cover and throw it in the trash before you bring the game home so you don't get bad luck that's what I'm going to do.

I was really excited about this game, this cover just killed that excitement.

WOW, sounds like a bunch of Yankee fans on here that just can stand the fact that they have not brought a good player up through the system sense Jeter. Cannot wait to see them continue to dish out the money on these ridiculous contracts, continue to trade away all of their youg talent, and continue to dissapoint.

Let's see... Chin Ming Wang, Robinson Cano, Joba Chamberlain. All of them are currently on the permanant roster.

I give your organization credit for a good string of homegrown talent but to say that the Yankees haven't brought up anyone since Jeter is ridiculous.

Im a big Yankee fan and this cover(while very annoying) would never stop me from getting the best baseball game on the market!!!

Being a Mariners fan, I could care less about a Red Sox being on the cover. Ichiro didn't have all that great a season, so it wasn't like he was going to get on there... As for a must buy, that's a forgone conclusion for me. I had last year's PSP version, but skipped the PS3 version. This year will see the reverse. I love baseball!

mlb08 never made it here last year nor sony's nba 09 so i wouldnt count on it, but there is always importing it. which is what i will do.

Wow, nice to see so many Yanks fans on here. I saw a couple used copies of last year's version at gamecrazy, but I just assumed it was yet another baseball game. Anyone wanna enlighten me on what makes The Show so great? Maybe I'll pick it up next year, when the cover is sox-free.

Also, @ rrdmxjedah: Manny on the cover is even more of a detriment to me. I don't care how good he is, or who he plays for, the man has a ego second only to kanye west, and he looks like he doesn't shower. I would hate him even if he was on the Yankees.

"The Road to teh Show" is like a baseball RPG, you play only as your player (i.e. only pitching if you are a pitcher in the AL, only playing 3rd base, etc) and start in Single A ball and work your way to the majors and through your career.

You get points to put towards attributes and skills when you meet certain goals that are given you (strike this player out), and by having certain stats at teh ends of games

it is the greatest baseball game I have ever played

i think i'm definitely gonna be buying this game now that he's on the cover. i havent bought a sports game yet for my ps3, but being a sox fan, and a pedroia fan, i'm definitely gonna get it.

I'm a die-hard Bears fan, but I picked up Madden with Favre on it.Maybe you should also not watch the Yankees when they're playing the Sox, it might ruin your TV.Seriously guys, not buying a game because of a picture on the case? man that's four years in a row with me hating the cover (papi, wright, howard, and now pedroia), I'm a reds fan though not bankees one if you were wondering, but this is still the best sports game franchise ever and i will continue to buy it
