Sony: PS3 'keeps entertainment simple,' 360 and Wii don't

Seeing people defend Sony in cases like this especially always amazes me.

Look, even if you think you can really attach "value" to a $400-500 videogame system, their press release is a blatant pile ('simple?' How many models has Sony made and swapped features? HDMI is standard on 360s for a long time. Saying 360 has no "movies" is a LIE -- most people would rather rent HD than pay $20-30 for HD discs)

HDMI output? I don't remember the 80GB PS3 coming with any HDMI cables. Simple my butt.

Sony's marketing staff is taking a page from fanboy arguments now? Desperate times call for desperate measures, I suppose.

If everyone had the setup required to take advantage of Blu-Ray, everyone was using wi-fi, and Sony had a better stable of games, they might have had a point. Unfortunately for them, not everyone cares about hi-def movies, and not everyone wants or uses wi-fi. Their game selection remains weaker than what is found on the Xbox as well.

So all things considered, the PS3 is not a better value at all.

u mention that LBP is a failure. If its such a failure, why did Microsoft join the bandwagon and created a game similar to LBP called "Kodu". Google or do some research before you state that LBP is a failure. I bet you haven't even played it and your just being ignorant, or making your judgement base on other reviews. Wow--I'm surprised at Joystick's belitting of the Sony e-mail. Sure
it has some advertising fluff, but the chart is right on. I did this
same analysis when I was deciding between a PS3 and an Xbox. Other
than the blu-ray player, the biggest decider to me was the $50 per
year cost to play the Xbox online. Over the 6-7 years I hope to have
the console, that really adds up--even if you only keep the console
for 5 years, that's an extra $250 you're paying for the Xbox. I'd
think a chart like this, showing the true costs, would help consumers
and should'nt be subject to your scorn.

Everyone that I know from last gen (i.e owned a ps2 instead of an xbox) as gotten a 360 this gen. And don't deny it fanboys, cause you know it's true. I've known people to have both the PS3 and the 360 and prefer to game on the 360. Why? All their friends are there.

But hey at least Sony looks at the glass half full and not half empty.

Here's the thing I noticed on the chart. They make the 360 look like it comes without a hard drive and then add 100 bucks to its "cumulative price"! What the hell Sony?

Where's the Headset? HDMI Cable? Backwards Compatibility? HDMI are now on the models so comparing the PS3 with an older Xbox 360 model just shows how stupid Sony are and their whole marketing campaign.

Maybe if they added a ''quality exclusive games section'' you would see that the Xbox 360 is in fact better value.

And Sony should add a ''Quality Online Gaming Service'' instead of just ''Online Gaming Service'' then see how it fairs.

The average consumer isn’t going to buy a PS3 just because Sony spammed their inboxes with a bullet-point comparison between it and its competition, unless they were already inclined to buy it in the first place. And if they were so-inclined, then it’s because they saw something of value in the PS3 that they didn’t see in the other two. And more power to ‘em.

Now I know why Sony cares about this. It’s just good business sense to do whatever you think you need to in order to attract customers. But why do the rest of you care? Is it because you’re worried that if you don’t talk up your favored console or defend it from naysayers that it might not do as well as you think it deserves to? Well have I’ve got news for you!. Those people that you’re trying to appeal to here, and on every other public forum related to videogames that you frequent? They don’t give a damn. They’ve already made up their minds, and moreover, they’re too busy spending their time trying to convince you why your choice was a bad one to bother listening to anything you have to say anyway. And the people who you’d probably be marginally better served to turn your evangelism towards? They don’t hang around here. They’re out there, making their purchasing decisions based on what appeals to them like a good consumer should, rather than based on some warped sense of brand fealty. So even if all of this wasn’t just typical fan-boy bullshit, it would still be completely pointless.

So again I ask you why. Why do you people care? Why can’t you just be happy with whatever console you have, and let the sales speak for themselves if it really matters that much to you? The only effect you had on the console war one way or the other both began and ended when you bought your favorite game box, so all this petty arguing and dick waving about which system is best serves no other purpose than to put the rest of us off to the hobby. We’re tired of it. We’re done. Maybe it’s time you gave it a rest.

So please grow the hell up and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks about the console you decided to back this generation, would you? It’s not going to stop being appealing to you just because some douche-bag says it sucks, so save yourself the time and energy that you waste typing furious rebuttals at your keyboard. And while you’re at it, why not take the opportunity to get back in touch with why you started playing games in the first place? You know, the games? The ones that with the exception of first-party exclusives, can be played on just about every console under the sun these days? Lord knows you’d probably have more time. And hell, you might find yourself enjoying the hobby at large once more! It’s all about the games, people. So to borrow a phrase from D-Toid, shut the f**k up and just play games already.

Am I the only one who's severely worried about this? Why would Sony lie, so shamefully and obviously, about competing systems (both of which cost less than theirs) a full THREE YEARS into the current generation?

Simple: They need to sell more systems. PS3 has sold about 16.8 million units (compare that to PS2, which sold an astounding 140 million units), half of the 360 and Wii, which have sold 32 Million and 37 million respectively. PSP is also a colossal failure in everywhere except the US.

Sony is in big trouble. That's the only reason they'd ever do this.
