REAL STATS: Blu-Ray Vs HD

Nielson VideoScan Data for Week Ending 1/13/08

Source: Nielson VideoScan via http://www.homemediamagazine.com/

Weekly sales: Blu-ray leads HD DVD 85% to 15%, 100:17.6, or 5.67:1

Wow!!! For anyone who didn't think the Warner news wasn't going to put an end to the HD DVD format, this week's Nielson's data should seal the format's fate. Fine for now, but the Xbox 1080 (sounds better that 720) better have Blu-Ray.

Danger Bullshit Alert:

There is no such thing as "Blu-ray Gaming".

Blu-ray gaming means inflated audio files that could conceivably be ANY size, mandatory installations, and a more expensive drive.

The audio files are what get me. ALL audio files are compressed, even the allegedly "uncompressed" ones. To get a audio file into a computer, some compression has to happen. You can't represent a complete wave form in a binary number system.

@PS3
you sure do spend a lot of time here running your mouth for someone that has both systems... you'd think with such an awesome machine in the ps3 you'd be too busy playing games and watching hd movies to come here and act like a child

Blu-Ray looks a lot better than streaming HD, no doubts. Not sure why fanboys viciously defend MS not having blu-ray, it would be a great add-on that would sell quite well, and obviously a lot of people want it theres a new thread almost every day at xbox.com of someone asking when its coming.

Microsoft reps lie all the time... Remember all the denial about a larger hard drive? Remember all the denial about HDMI? How about the promise of full backwards compatibility, hmmm?

Blu Ray for me is movies.. and sure the PS3 got some games coming out that the 360 cant handle due to storage, but Blu Ray is first and foremost a movie concept. And if you want to watch Blu Ray movies you'd prefer a unit that dosent wake up your neighbours while you're watching Batman on the telly... So i cant see the 360 with a Blu Ray addon any time soon since the sounds it makes just drives me crazy. Id never watch movies on my 360. The PS3 is my first choice in that matter.

Exactly what turnip truck do the MS folks think everyone fell off of?

3 reasons for no Blu-Ray, eh? Hmmm..

"Don't get a ton of requests for it" - then why are you having to constantly issue denials of rumors?

"Doesn't help us ... in gaming" - Well, why did you produce the HD-DVD external drive, then?

"Can't have producers producing on Blu-Ray" - Ummm, again, you produced the HD-DVD and touted how you could have one box for gaming and movies.

...and they wonder why the rumors keep coming. Why not try the TRUTH sometime? Just say it - "we don't get licensing fees for Blu-Ray so we don't want to fill Sony's coffers". At least people would believe you.

Ok, IF they were to make a Blu-Ray drive, it would have to be external. So, they would do what happened with the HD-DVD drive, it would be for movies ONLY. Part of the reason is copy-protection.
In addition, most games are rather large and still fit on a single DVD. I said most, not all. The space "issue" is not really there.
As pointed out before, Sony would end up making money if there was a Blu-Ray add-on. Why would MS help them?
What about the people who got an HD-DVD add-on, and want to keep and use it? Would it even be possible to have both a HD-DVD and Blu-Ray add-on connected at the same time?

Really, overall, there are too many negatives for MS to make a Blu-Ray add-on. I would like it, but I don't see it happening.

sony has basically won, from a hardware standpoint. Not to say that microsoft isn't doing practically everything else better.

BUt if M$ put in a Blu-Ray add-on it will just like admitting they were wrong in choosing hardware (which they were to be fair)

Xbox was a better system than the PS2. Games looked better... blah blah. PS2 was better though.

Tables were turned this generation. PS3 games "LOOK" better,(debatable) than 360.

PS3 sucks, its for morons with over-sized TV's that brag to their friends about how they can see their movies in 1080i. (WHO CARES.)
