CES 2009: Expect more regular updates to 360

With Xbox Live Primetime and Netflix movie sharing both in the works, we had to wonder if we were going to have to wait for a biannual update to get them, or if they'd be doled out piecemeal. When we asked Xbox director Aaron Greenberg today, he wasn't talking specific update timing, but he did say small updates should be more common.

"Some of the benefits of the design of the new interface is that we can add new channels, new content, new features on a more regular basis," he said. "It doesn't mean we won't group a bunch of these and do a big rollout, but I think you will see us do more regular updates and roll things out on a more regular basis."

Dear MS,

I've been a loyal fan of your company for a while now. All that I ask for is to have the ability to group and tag friends. This means having "Tom (from work)" instead of ".:.65JkKiller32.:." and having him grouped under "IRL"

As long as it doesn't become like XP and interrupt me every 5 seconds to update. But regular updates are USUALLY good for any type of service to have.

Can someone explain what exactly the netflix movie sharing will be? Will I just be able to select the movies on a friend's instant queue rather than going online and putting it on mine?

You're probably going to have to be in a party with the person who has netflix and that person will quicklaunch netflix and you will all watch the movie as its streaming, im assuming

No kidding. Do we really need a Spotlight, Inside Xbox, AND Events channel? Seriously, does ANYONE look at the Events channel? The default should be My Xbox or Friends.

Honestly, I'm skeptical of what updates would bring. With NXE, 80% of the selectable items are just ads anyway. If they update it, it'll probably be to ad even more ads.

Hey alright! But is it really possible that the way they set up XBL before was making it impossible for them to update it on the reg? Are they seriously admitting that the system that they created to update something they call a "community" is poor at doing so? That's pretty weaksauce, Microsoft.
