SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 patch finally brings Trophies, Party system, bug fixes
If you've been putting off SOCOM: Confrontation until developer Slant Six worked out all the bugs (oh, and added a Quick Match/Party system ... and Trophies), then today's your lucky day, friend. The long anticipated 1.30 update was pushed out early this morning, bringing with it the aforementioned features and fixes. Will it be enough to restore Sony's once-proud franchise to the top of your multiplayer shooter-heap? We won't pretend to know the answer to that, so we'll ask you. Is SOCOM back in action?

I didn't want to come back to this game till they released this 1.3 patch. I've been playing for about two hours now, and must say, everything runs very smooth and bug free. Only problem I've had so far is some connection issues, which I assume is coming from the overload of people downloading the 500MB patch. Still, Socom is back in action, and I really hope everyone else gives this game a legitimate chance again.

Sounds great.
Just a few more months till it's released in the old world and I'll join you.
FluxWaveZ @ Jan 9th 2009 5:30PM
What the hell happened to the previous news? It was about GTA IV DLC coming on Feb. 17th! Ohh... Is this comment going to perhaps get deleted like the article?
PersonOfSorts @ Jan 9th 2009 5:37PM
Two men in suits just knocked on my door. One of them has a strange looking wand.
Haggard @ Jan 9th 2009 5:51PM
It's cool.. we're just talking.
Talking's fine, right?

Post was only live for less than a minute before we realized it was old news – http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/usa-today-gta-iv-dlc-named-detailed-dated/
FluxWaveZ @ Jan 9th 2009 6:25PM
Oh, that explains it. Guess I missed that one.
ExMcCloud @ Jan 9th 2009 5:37PM
Meh...Maybe but I doubt that I won't just stop playing again when Killzone 2 releases.
Ryne Higgins @ Jan 9th 2009 5:37PM
I actually have been holding off purchasing Socom Confrontation until a lot of the errors have been fixed.
It seems 1.30 has done some of that, I will keep asking friends and watching the playstation.com forums to see if it is worth my money or not.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Jan 9th 2009 7:12PM
the headset is pretty damn sweet. When I bought the package, I viewed my purchase as me buying a headset, and getting a game for free.
Tez @ Jan 9th 2009 5:56PM
It's been at the top the whole time. Bugs or no, there's nothing like the SOCOM experience.
el serpiente @ Jan 9th 2009 7:43PM
So how vital is the voice chat/team communication to this game? Are most players committed to teamwork, or does it usually devolve into two or three cowboys running and gunning ahead?
Tez @ Jan 9th 2009 8:53PM
I plan with a clan, so we're always coordinated; and yes, it is very important to the game. This game doesn't shine unless you've got a group of people to rely on.
NukeAssault @ Jan 9th 2009 5:59PM
Ill probably pick it up over the weekend. With the headset of course. I cant say i can see myself paying 40 bucks for it.
BadassSailor @ Jan 9th 2009 6:01PM
I have a friend at work who wants me to get this, but I can't justify the price for no single player. I really didn't have a lot of fun with warhawk because by time I got the game, everyone else was so good my average life lasted about 2 seconds, and I see this being similar.
then when I heard about the bugs and everything, I just went and got saint's row 2 instead.
ice~ @ Jan 9th 2009 7:34PM
Can you justify paying $60 bucks for a really good headset that comes with a free game?
DiRT @ Jan 10th 2009 12:40AM
Same problem here. When I play online, I just want new people to shoot at. I don't care about clans, stats, or trophies. Why is a storyline so hard?
BadassSailor @ Jan 10th 2009 6:11AM
Well, I got the headset with warhawk, is it the same one?
And honestly, I can't figure out how to make it work, there is no onscreen indication that you are broadcasting when you talk like on 360 and I have never heard anyone else on it, despite pairing it up and everything.
DrunkRaba @ Jan 9th 2009 6:40PM
I'll have to give it another go then, put the game down after about 4 hours of play time, so I am really hoping this made the game better.
SimbaDogg @ Jan 9th 2009 7:37PM
its still beyond me why they rushed a bug riddled game out only to compete in the same time frame as resistance 2 and LBP. Def should have waited and maybe released in december,or early january right before KZ 2
j.howlett @ Jan 10th 2009 11:08AM
i think they did it to get the official headset out for the holidays.
Kinsey @ Jan 9th 2009 8:07PM
It's about bloody time. Now hopefully Sony and Slant six will market this game properly this time .... Just heard my PS3 restart from the patch install I better try this shit out. :D
colinbell @ Jan 9th 2009 9:24PM
SOCOM + KZ2 + R2 co-op = online heaven
Lekko @ Jan 10th 2009 1:34AM
KZ2 yet to be proven, and how dare you forget Warhawk.
For shame.
KingOfGods @ Jan 10th 2009 12:49PM
I went to try it out late last night. I let the patch download while I played World at war on 360. When it finished the PS3 restarted to the game main screen with the confrontation image and music and I could not get past that part to find a game or even shut off the PS3. it didn't act frozen because I could bring up the xmb but I couldn't search for a game, quit the game or shut it off. I flipped the switch in the back and went to bed.
Lekko @ Jan 10th 2009 3:20PM
WHAT THE HELL
THIS IS ANNOYING, ALL THE TROPHIES ARE IN ALL CAPS.
jonjon72 @ Jan 11th 2009 2:04AM
Traded in Socom for COD: World at War. Zero regrets. All those problems took way too long to get fixed. At least I kept the headset. Its pretty sweet.
Counting down to KZ2. Hopefully come launch date, it won't not have the same on-line problems like Socom.
