No doubt it was announced too early. There's no "probably". It took Sony a full fucking year plus a few more months to release a BETA. Who thinks the full version of Home is coming out at the end of 2009?

i agree that the wait was way to long, and i think our opinions would be different in a more positive way because we wouldn't expect as much

I like what EA has done. I hope they get that out soon. Where is the Warhawk home level? Plus I would like ot knwo if we are still getting out trophy rooms. Our home spaces are boring without the tvs and some music to play in it. I wish they would have left that in, As is the home spaces are worthless.

i think word got out to the public too early because it was leaked by another website. i thought sony had planned to show it to game makers to give them ideas like the ea sports space. GDC 07 wasn't that long ago, not even the 3 years people were claiming last GDC and before

Congratulations, Mr. Edward for the Understatement of the Year!!
This Quote will go down in the history books as the most laughably obvious technology statement of 2009!

Ever since Phil Harrison's sudden departure from SCEE, HOME was destined for disappointment. He would have made sure that what was promised at GDC '07 was what was delivered. I seem to recall David Reeves saying something about using time to get advertisers instead of fleshing out HOME's features.

for some reason, i seemed to enjoy the beta more just before it went public, and less after it did. i think it might have been because the servers sometimes a little overcrowded IMO.

The wait was half the reason my interest in Home has vanished.

The other reasons were:

1.) the "download this theme for a possible beta entry" and then only people who had qore and downloaded the theme had a real chance

2.) going to my friends place and playing with Home for about 5 minutes then wondering what else to do.

3.) death of the video/music sharing that was going to allow people in your space to watch and listen together. And yes, I do realize how many different issues there could be with a feature like that (licensing, bandwitdh, etc.)

Here's an idea. Stop delaying things. Killzone 2 would have be a huge killer holiday seller, instead of pulling it until February. Home is great, but would have been more exciting, if we didn't have to wait so long. Other things like Qore demos would be more appreciated with a release date added on. I see Fear 2 has a expected date of next week. Thank you for that. I've had three times where I had betas and had to call Sony because I wasn't sent my code to play them and when I finally did it had about a week left. Bottom line, PS3 has amazing potential as does Home and the PSN store. It just needs better organization and less delays. Spread the demos out. Don't give us five at once and then none for a month. It sucks! Give us one a week, if possible. Don't mean to come down so hard, but I'm a huge PS3 supporter, but have lost a lot of faith, especially after I had three Ps3's die in a week due to a firmware update. Something kept killing the power. The first was a 60g so I used my warranty at Best Buy for 2 years, since it was still left. I got a new one. It died. I took it back and got a new one. Again, it freaking died. I went to a different Best Buy and finally figured out it was a damn Nyko usb connector for the Ps3 that I've had for awhile. It was suddenly conflicting with the new firmware update. I called Sony and talked to the manager. Her response was she had a Ps3 and her friends did as well and she had never heard of a firmware update causing any problems. I explained to her Saints Row 2 locks up my system everything unless I delete the profile before playing, ever since the new update. My friend didn't have this problem. I also explained I bought GTA4 for a friend and he couldn't play it until the new firmware update came out, because it was locking up his system, but not one mine. She argued with me as if it never happened. Bottom line, Sony get your stuff together and I'll happily stand behind you. P.s. I have 50+ ps2 games that I can no longer play because all Best Buy had was ones that didn't play them. And before anyone says anything, my warranty was up with Sony. I called them, so I couldn't send it off to them. You guys let me know what you think. Anyone had any firmware problems? What do you guys think Sony needs to work on? Thanks for listening. And despite all the problems, I still do support PS3 and it's system but the denying has to stop. This is why I didn't buy an xbox.

Killzone 2 was delayed so it wouldn't run into the November storm occupied by Resistance 2 and Gears 2. Looking at the sales of Gears 2, that seemed like quite the good idea. Now that it's released in February, it has just that much more room to shine against less competition.

I think they definitely announced it too early and the wait was really long. Maybe if they would have announced it but not given any time frames it would have been better, but holding off on the announcement would probably have been the best thing.

Having said that, I think the ps3 community (users and journalists) as a whole could have handled the whole thing better as well. As users, I think we need to calm down when things don't go exactly as scheduled or exactly as planned, especially with something on the scale of Home.

Many people get so pissed off if something isn't out the second they expect it to be out, and I think that needs to stop. Hell, look at the post listing the most recent PSN update. How many people need to post with outright anger that Savage Moon didn't come out? Granted if a date is announced, that deadline should be stuck to, but an announcement that there will be a delay should be ok, and everyone just needs to accept it. Even if there is no announcement, is it really THAT big a deal to where we need to act like someone killed our mother? Some of the absolute rage over the delays that Home went through were WAY over the top. Just like the rage when Life with PlayStation was delayed. Just calm it down and give them a chance to get it right, cause we all know what will happen if something doesn't work exactly right on day one. More rage.

Users and journalists also need to understand what Home is intended to be and stop rating it as if it is supposed to replace games. It's not. It is a social area for people to gather, with a few activities to keep you slightly amused until your group is ready to play Warhawk or whatever. It is true that there isn't a lot to do in Home, but that's why you have games. Home is not a game and was never intended to be, so the reviewing it and treating it as such needs to stop.

Overall, I think if Home is looked at with some level-headedness, it really isn't that bad. Is it pretty barren? Definitely. But, given time and a little patience on our part, hopefully it will pan out to be everything that we have hyped it up to be and then some. So many games have come out over the last couple months, and so many are coming down the pipe soon, Home will just be a bonus, like it was always intended to be.

I agree with the commenter who mentioned the removal of broadcasting of music.

If I am allowed to "broadcast" read: PLAY music in my own apartment for my friends, I should be able to do so in my own electronic space. That is, if sony ever wants me to spend money on that service.

Also, I refuse to buy any of the items in HOME until the price becomes something more reasonable. A buck for a pair of jeans (or more!) is simply not reasonable for a few kilobytes of data. Sorry, Sony. I'm just not that stupid. Those items could be made for about $10 worth of your employee's labor.

Sure, unless you're a woman, or have a problem with hate speach. And, this is still beta, right?

Whenever you drum up excitement, and make people wait, the end product needs to meet their expectations or else it's a complete disappointment. If you bring it out without a huge wait, people tend to be more willing to forgive it for early teething problems. But this has been put off and put off for so long. Sony should have announced this in 2008.

In a perfect world, I would agree. However, this community has proven time and again that that is not the case. If something is not perfect right out of the gate, it's met with rage by users and low review scores by media. Hell, in my opinion there should be no reviews of Home, just hands on impressions. If sites like IGN actually updated their reviews after software updates, it would make sense, but they give things low scores because of bugs and whatnot, and if those bugs are fixed, the score stays the same. Then people go and read a review that doesn't reflect the real world quality of a product and will shy away from it (which is ridiculous in and of itself since reviews are opinions by one person and usually aren't neutral).

Part of me wishes that businesses could survive without early announcements and hype, and just release things when they are ready to be released, then there would be no disappointment and no rage when things are delayed or aren't perfect. Plus everything would be a surprise, and that's fun.

Everything in the gaming space is announced to early, hype is built so high as to come crashing fiercely atop it's target making the actual game seem lame by comparison.

Really? Home, announced too early? Damn.

I think Home is cool as, I like to chat and play pool with buddies, meet people etc. The EA are looks sick!

Redbull area is rubbish, just empty space and a flying sim, pretty meh.

I think home will be amazing in 12 months time though when there are more game spaces (we have none in Europe) and THE BLOODY PICTURE FRAMES AND TV's ETC in your appartment.

I mean come on Sony, this was like your main thing about Home and you've removed it?!?!

I want a TV in my home space!!!

If they wanted a different opinion from me, they should have waited and released it with more content. It was nice to see it, but it's still too early for me to see the value in it.

I un-installed it, and will check back in a few months to see what's changed (hopefully for the better).
