CES 2009: Novint CEO wants Falcon on consoles by year's end

Apparently a dabbler in the telepathic arts, Novint CEO Tom Anderson psychically absorbed our pleas and told us he wants the device to be on consoles by the end of 2009. Apparently, console manufacturers were holding out until they could see some support from game publishers, and now that companies are piling on to the Falcon, a console version of the device is more likely. We'd be crossing our fingers, if we could get this Hunter off of us.

I absolutely love the Falcon even though I haven't touched it. I would buy one in a heartbeat if it didn't cost as much as Rock Band 2.
Kokuryukai @ Jan 11th 2009 12:10AM
It would be great if I could use this on my PS3 as well as my PC.... then I am sold...
Giroro @ Jan 11th 2009 12:18AM
But L4D isn't on the PS3. How would you ever experience the zombie Apocalypse with surprising?
Kokuryukai @ Jan 11th 2009 12:26AM
No its not but it will be ported sometime this year, just like half life 2...
as for Left 4 Dead is a lot better on the PC..
Ihavepants @ Jan 11th 2009 1:06AM
No it won't.
Giroro @ Jan 11th 2009 1:16AM
I think that Ihavepants is right.
As, far as I know, Valve wants nothing to do with the PS3. They didn't even work on the port of the Orange Box(nor are they giving it updates).
Emophia @ Jan 11th 2009 9:44AM
Son't matter because playing L4D on the PC is the only real way to play it.
Mark C @ Jan 11th 2009 1:18PM
no really, it won't.
Kye says: I like turtles @ Jan 11th 2009 1:27PM
Emophia, so when I play it on my 360 are you saying I'm only pretending to play it?
kbomb1upc @ Jan 12th 2009 1:22PM
@Mark C
Valve already said that they are not porting L4D over to the PS3 but they said EA might do it just like they did with The Orange Box. And knowing how EA likes money, I think they will port it over.
Mechanical @ Jan 11th 2009 12:15AM
Might want to add an 'of' to that first line there.
Dr Scientist @ Jan 11th 2009 12:17AM
And another word at the end of the first sentence.
zuburi @ Jan 11th 2009 12:15AM
Tell the CEO to lock himself in his room for 100 days until they give him certification!
Giroro @ Jan 11th 2009 12:16AM
"which replicates the sense of touch in PC games with surprising ."
. . .disappointment?
...accuracy?
That's kind of a key word that is missing
Strike Man @ Jan 11th 2009 12:23AM
It'll be fixed in the 1.02 patch.
LocalToast @ Jan 11th 2009 12:22AM
This would go great with NVIDIA's 3D glasses. From what I've read everywhere L4D looks phenomenal in 3D.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 11th 2009 3:43PM
It seems everyone is having a good time with L4D.In my case I abandoned the game after a week because in the xbox 360 is laggy and the single player experience isn't nearly as fun as playing co-op.
What killed the game for me is that there isn’t enough variety in fact Blood Harvest plays a bit too much like Death Toll also that there should be different maps to play versus.
Megadanxzero @ Jan 11th 2009 12:31AM
I always thought these looked kinda cool but it seemed like it wouldn't really be that great for actually playing a game with... I'm assuming they're pretty damn expensive too, and if it DOES work, and actually feel good it's not gonna feel good enough to justify the price...
Alien Lord @ Jan 11th 2009 12:47AM
That's what I was thinking too.
Doug @ Jan 11th 2009 7:02PM
Still, I think it's for the experience. I think this is sick, and will probably buy it (kinda sad, I know).

Spy sapping mah...Wrong game.
sicsided @ Jan 11th 2009 2:01AM
while it seems cool, it also seems like a big piece of evidence for those who say games teach people to kill.
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Jan 11th 2009 6:54AM
Further immersion isn't further evidence for that tripe. People have been turning gaming developments into "reasons why they teach you to kill!" for years.
Wubbytoes @ Jan 11th 2009 2:15AM
It would be cool to see it for the PS3, but Microsoft would never allow this for the 360.
Premature ejaculation man @ Jan 11th 2009 2:49AM
Why?
Wubbytoes @ Jan 11th 2009 3:41AM
Because they already don't allow mouse and keyboard support.
CaramelZappa @ Jan 11th 2009 2:17AM
Really cool controller, but mouse+keyboard will still be better. Price point is also too steep for a controller.
Blank-Mage @ Jan 11th 2009 2:55AM
I thought that was a robot committing suicide.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Jan 11th 2009 4:21AM
This.
+1 soooo awesome. Well done.
I'll throw in a Simpsons reference, when Linguo says "G'ERROR!!!"

I hardly ever post here. Usually only for contests.
And I DEFINITELY never laugh out loud at something on this site. But this is the funniest thing I've read in a while. You deserve many ++
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Jan 11th 2009 5:52AM
FAIL!
Seeing how often you get horde-raped on L4D, this device would explode from excess vibrations coming from everywhere :P
GenBanks @ Jan 11th 2009 9:24AM
I want one...
mecharine @ Jan 11th 2009 10:29AM
This would be great with a new Mechwarrior or Steel Battalion game.
horngreen @ Jan 11th 2009 11:35AM
You say your "BIG FANS" but when I clicked the link to the story of how big a fan you are it seemed you were dissapointed. Well done. Which is it?
J.Goodwin @ Jan 11th 2009 11:36AM
The new style guide for Joystiq must have been written by the marketing department.
ryan @ Jan 11th 2009 12:37PM
I used a 3d modeling version at Atomic Monkey studios once. It felt just like real life clay modeling, gave resistance and everything. I hope something can be done with this so everyone can enjoy it.
swmarc @ Jan 11th 2009 11:33PM
Wasn't there a big cry about the Nintendo wii gun? This thing looks like it was actually molded from a pistol, cant see that going over well with crazy moms and the rest of the bandwagon.
Chad @ Jan 11th 2009 1:49PM
I had a chance to try out one of these a few months ago, I found it gimmicky and somewhat useless.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 11th 2009 3:38PM
Wii zapper killer confirmed.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 11th 2009 3:47PM
OH SHINNY.
Looks like it could be a bit uncomfortable to use but if it works it would be great for the x360 now that what would have been even better is a controller for fighting games because the xbox 360 controller sucks hard for fighting games.
Even the RED LE controller sucks for fighting games.
Thrall @ Jan 11th 2009 7:07PM
This is for PC. You know, the thing you are typing from. Or did your consolized brain not know that games are on PC too?
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 11th 2009 8:17PM
Or you are just a fail troll who can't read.

Hey, I'm tomnovint, Novint's CEO. Have a look at this video - it will answer some questions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ1Rz2clLS0
I'm personally more competitive with the Falcon than a mouse - with some hours under your belt, the Falcon navigation is better than the mouse. With the forces turned down to the right settings, it doesn't have any negative effect either. If you leave the forces up, in contrast, there is a great deal of immersion - it makes you feel like you are in the game, as you feel everything that happens. When a hunter in Left 4 Dead jumps on you, for example, and you can't move, the Falcon can't move. When the boomer spews on you and you're covered in goo, it feels like you are moving through goo when you move the grip. When a zombie attacks you from behind, you feel it from behind, and when it attacks from the side you feel it from the side. I watched person after person leave our booth at CES the last few days, amazed at the experience. Was a lot of fun.
I'm always around on our message boards at www.novint.com if you have any questions. thx, tomnovint.
