We've heard a number of rumors to this effect, but for the first time, Neversoft co-founder Joel Jewett recently confirmed in an interview with the Great Falls Tribune that the long-time developer of the Tony Hawk series has passed the torch to a new developer in order to solely focus on the Guitar Hero franchise. Jewett claims it's "probably best for the franchise." Based on the past couple of Hawk games, we can't help but agree.
This leaves us with the question of who the next developer behind Hawk will be -- GiantBomb assumes that Robomodo, which is composed of ex-EA Chicago devs who claim to be working on a "high-profile extreme sports title for Activision Blizzard," will be making their developmental debut with the next installation in the once-great skating franchise. Now that the cat is out of the bag regarding Neversoft's Hawk-less agenda, we hope to hear something more concrete about the series sometime soon.

Aw I’m going to miss the broken and buggy skateboarding games from Neversoft.
It was hilarious how in project 8 just by touching a fire hydrant with you skate your character was catapult to the other side of the place. A 1M fracture, I wonder how the hell would anyone survive to that and how the hell is an amateur skater going to pay that?

Obviously, Neversoft doesn't have enough farmhands to milk two bone dry cash cows at once. I blame the economy.

3 = RESIST the temptation to add some dumbass gimmick or any Jackass stars.

The problem was THPS2 was essentially perfect. They've never really had anything to add to it. Its like a band who's 1st/2nd album is an all time classic... there is no way to follow it up.

Sounds like the equivalent of a plague of locusts.
Once they are done with a good harvest, they move to the next.

Wow, Neversoft is so easily giving away the franchise that made them famous to work on the Guitar Hero franchise. Is it just me or does anyone out there think that Neversoft NEEDS more innovative staff in order to make better games? I mean, how innovative are all the different Guitar Hero games that have recently come out?

I feel like Neversoft COULD be innovative if they actually stopped trying to play catch-up with Rock Band.
Instead of focusing on the whole band, why not just work on making the guitar aspect, or even the music studio perfected? Or maybe make take their time and make the game suck a lot less?
Only in the Twilight Zone, I guess...

Bleh. I felt like the last fun Tony Hawk game was Tony Hawk's Underground, and that was only because of cheats and how incredibly bugged it was.
Did anyone else try to get into buildings by repeatedly jumping against a wall until you got over the building in the PS2 version?

I was just thinking of that! In Manhattan on THUG, there was this one glitch where you could hop on this one building, and you would fall on top of the skateable area.

Yea Vault, I would always launch myself up to the really high building in i think it was NYC
But anyways, whatever happened to GUN 2? I actually enjoyed the first one definitely for the western setting, the other parts of the game weren't perfect, but it was fun. Why Neversoft? Why? You and your potty mouthed head of the studio "Joel Jewett" with a 'stash that brings tears to my eyes!

Its appauling and atrocious to see so many many people who havent played the best TH game out. Tony Hawk Downhill Jam on the Wii. As someone whos played every single TH game and finished most, i was dissapointed with the controls for the first couple of hours, but now that i'm used to it, its the most fun TH game ever, its very very long if you want to finish it with everyone (still haven't finished it) and it's probably my most played Wii game overall. Pure gaming goodness.

If it's really the old EA Chicago crew with the keys to the Hawk franchise, I can't help but be excited about it. I want to see their take on a skating game.
And for the record, I happen to like NS on the Guitar Hero franchise. I've loved their Music Studio and it helps their game stand out as something besides a RB clone.

The best tony hawk games for the last few generations have all been on the GBA or DS. I forget the name of the developers, but they should get those guys to help out...
