Activision recently announced that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has become the first game ever to reach $1 billion in sales. This comes a little under a year from when the publisher announced that the Guitar Hero franchise had surpassed the billion dollar mark. Not bad for a series the company picked up for a pittance at $100 million in 2006.
The success of the franchise isn't just good news for the game industry, as Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith has cited Nielson SoundScan data, which claims that artists featured in the Guitar Hero series have seen download sales increase between 15-843%. As for the publisher's financial standing, if GameStop's top selling holiday titles are any indication, Activision should enjoy a lucrative quarter headlined by Guitar Hero World Tour, Call of Duty: World at War and that Lich King guy from the World of Warcraft.

And if real guitar players and drummers enjoy the games, is something wrong with them?

Hell, I bought it. Who didn't? Though just a few months after the GH2 for 360 release, it was still a pretty big deal. RB a month later clearly blew it out of the water and I haven't looked back since.

It's got one of the better soundtracks of all the GH/RB titles. Getting THE best G'n'R song, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Slayer all in one game? What else do you need?

Terrible games sell well, Eh GH? Madden?
I mean, GH3 is easy, I can beat everything expert on it no problem, even TTFAF, but that doesn't mean its done well.
GHWT just plain sucks as a RB1-ripoff.
As much as I like playing it, it just feels like I'm playing RB-lite

It IS easy to beat.
Hard to get a good score on, but its NOT hard to beat.
The only 'hard' part is the intro, and even thats simple enough, even for someone not good, if they just ignore orange like I used to do.
I've beaten every single song in all these games from GH2 to RB2 and GHWT. TTFAF, Constant Motion, GG&HT, all of them.
So in my opinion, I find TTFAF easy, because even compared to Constant Motion it doesn't have a single spot that can cause death quickly.
