You know, things were pretty tough before Castlevania Judgment. While the general consensus was that 2D Castlevania > 3D Castlevania, it wasn't quite safe to label the 3D Castlevania games as the worst in the series. Last generation's whip-crackers were far from being considered abominations, and the two outings for the N64 have a fair share of fans. Thus, when rambling on about the series, there was no single game that could be pegged as the worst in the series. Castlevania Judgment solved all of that.
Truthfully, I'm just being cantankerous: I have yet to play the game myself. While we know that the reviews range from "meh" to "ZOMG STAY AWAY!!1," we should all form our own opinions and not bash the game until we've seen it. What I have experienced, however, are the cut scenes via YouTube. Nothing could have prepared me for the weirdness I was to witness. While there may be a time and place for everything, I highly doubt that a pre-pubescent female's issues with her lack of physical development would best be handled in the middle of a game about traveling in time to destroy a being that was sent to destory a vampire by destroying the universe ... or something. Regardless, the whole discussion makes me feel a bit uneasy. Maria: please save these thoughts for those special Health classes in school where they separate the boys and the girls. You know, where a gym teacher of the same sex awkwardly discusses human sexuality over a chorus of snickering.
