If you happen to be a developer for Microsoft's Community Games on the Xbox 360, our heart goes out to you. MTV's Multiplayer is reporting that since the Community Games service launched in November 2008, developers have yet to receive any sales information about their games. Thus far, the only official information available to the developers is the same information that's been released to the public, namely the top ten Community Games lists that Major Nelson compiles every week. As Multiplayer points out, knowing what rank a game is doesn't exactly tell the whole story without sales data: How many copies sold does it take to make number one? Thousands? Hundreds?
In response, Microsoft stated that the sales data will be available to Community Games developers via the XNA Creators Club website by March. Hopefully, Microsoft will see fit to release some information on the overall performance of Community Games in that time frame as well.

That was my first thought. Couldn't they just do the math depending on how much they've been paid and knowing what % they receive?
Guess they aren't getting paid.

Community games would at least sell more if they were avaliable here in in all xbox live regions. I cant see any reason why a game made by the independent community is not avaliable wherever.

Methinks community games aren't doing as well as Microsoft hoped and they don't want it to get out.
I mean, Major Nelson's top ten list says nothing really. For all we know the top game could have sold 3 copies and everything else is just drawing at 2 and 1.

Wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. So far not much worth paying for has really come out.
Then again, some people buy anything ...

There has been only a few titles that have seen ANY playtime here at my house. This is an age group of 4 to 40 that plays the 360.
So far there are only a few we have liked such as
Weapoins of Choice
Artoon
Fuel Depot
They need to make it to where the game has to get a certain amount of votes over a certain time from any XBOX Liver player that tries the demo and removed if it fails to meet a quota.
We have tried game after game and most of them was played not even a full time and then we deleted it.

It'd make a lot more sense to remove a game if it receives a certain amount of negative reviews, not the other way around. People are a lot more likely to take action if they feel let down about something than if they're completely satisfied.

Community dev'rs don't know any facts and figures, at all, just yet.
Their payments happen once every 3 months, but since the thing only just started in November, the first quarterly report thing isn't until the end-ish of March
It's all a game of sit+wait, right now, but with any luck there'll be a fair few decent number of sales.
Of course, there's some real rubbish games in amongst that, too... and if Fireplace gets more than 3 sales I'll be officially ticked off with the whole thing... but on the whole there's some good stuff on there.
Groov's fantastic, btw.

I'm hopeful for the community games even though I haven't taken much interest in them yet.
