Like to play shooters with the volume at full blast? Sure, that home theater setup might give stellar surround sound and it can even make things sound as real as possible, but it could also land you into a lot of trouble. Take the case of two 21-year old gamers from Valby, Denmark for example; just over the weekend, the boys were detained by Danish authorities who were responding to gunfire reports in the neighborhood.
Neighbors mistook the gunshots heard from the boys' "PlayStation game" as actual gunfire and reciprocated with emergency calls to the police authorities. The volume was turned up so loud that the boys could not initially hear the police calling out to them via megaphone. Luckily, no one got hurt when the boys were finally detained. The cops searched the apartment, found no weapons and came to the conclusion that the noises were coming from the game playing on the television. The two were allowed back into their apartment without any further incident.
So what have we learned today, children? That gaming has become such a viscerally real experience that its world of imagination can be misconstrued as real. Oh, and make sure to keep the volume at a moderate level, please.

Wow, guess this should serve as a lesson as all not to crank up the volume.

Nah, SOCOM just isn't that loud. COD4 or COD5 would be my guesses.

ya, socom probably, doubt it was resistance. call of duty? i'm trying to think of what other games it might've been. i seriously doubt it was GTA however. btw, why do you need to volume that loud? i mean when you play guitar hero its one thing, but it gets to a point where it just gets obnoxious for everyone

Not to be rude, but what is the point in posting this? It's humorous and related to the PS3, but otherwise irrelevant. I know there isn't an endless amount of PS3-related news, but I'd rather this just be skipped over.

Seriously? You're asking that question?
Okay, it's simple. What you do in situations like these is first, read the headline to the story. Then, decide if it sounds like something you want to read. Finally, if it does, read it. If not, don't.
Notice how needlessly being RUDE doesn't factor into that.

Well, I approve of this news post.
Amusing, interesting, and relevant to the PS3. It's a great article to include on this site.

I would say it's relevent to gaming in general, PS3 or otherwise. I would really like to know why you disaprove of this. So it takes up space on PS3fanboy's servers, big woop, you don't have to read it. I thought it was rather funnny and would be just as relevent on a 360 or other gaming news site (its more about gaming in general than specifically PS3). Kinda like that MGS style escape in a cardboard box a while back. If it was a post saying "check out thi new 360 game" or something similar then fair enough but seriously dude, loosen up. (P.S. I am a little inebriated, so may have rambled a little.)

It is clearly about a PS3, and one can speculate about what game it could be (fun for the readers) and also has a moral point in not playing to loudly. I say it's very relevant.
Otherwise you could say that all posts concerning games you don't like are irrelevant.

I didn't read it; you missed my point. I'm saying it shouldn't be on the site at all. Ever heard the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?"
No point in arguing about it any further, cause it's purely subjective anyway and all comes down to opinion.

aren't you the one who didn't have anything nice to say in the first place?
not to be rude or anything, but clearly you must be trolling right? just my opinion. nothing really more to argue there.
ever heard the saying, "an eye for an eye..."?
the person didn't say something that was nice or not nice. at best it was inaccurate if you really didn't read the post.

THAT IS SO......COOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and it wasn't SOCOM - SOCOM's sound effects for shots being fired and bullets and whatever can't even compare with MGS 4's. HELL it had to be MGS 4 considering how Kojima didn't compress the sound at all. With full surround sound...it would do just the trick and I honestly remember reading a review stating that it could cause the police to come over...looks like they weren't joking LOL. Awesome article IMO.

My first thought was MGS4. Just that first gunshot when you press the start button makes everyone in my house jump if I have the volume at the right level.

Umm.. i dont think either of you guys have a clue ofwhat youre talking about.. sure the sound effects in mgs4 may be uncompressed.. but have you played socom and mgs4 back to back?? socom has the most realistic gun sounds that i have ever heard in any video game.. way back to socom 1.. mgs4's well.. you can tell its a video game. ive played both at a certain volume and only socom made my pops come up to my room to see what the hell was goin on.. lol im still not sure what he thought was going on.. but i think it woke him up from his sleep. in conclusion.. only a dummy would mistake mgs4 guns for a real gun being fired.. while socom's sound design is so authentic.. it may trick even me if i had no clue.. but i dont think it was either of those.. especially socom since its not out in europe, as stated before(but i can play it using my european PSN :D). maybe COD.

Ahh, fresh from my 1st bath this week I have an off subject question for PS3 fanboy. I was just reminded by a friend of mine that NEC might be releasing a greatest hits compilation for PS3 and other systems of their PC Engine classics. That along with a Mega CD compilation would be great (just my opinion). I think some of this is already available on the Japanese PSN and Wii. I would rather have the disc instead. Any information is appreciated.

Haha how funny. I bet my sound system would scare my neighbors if I had the window open when playing at high volume... 800W of power can shake my house. :)

I love to play shooters with the volume at realistic levels. It drives the people around me nuts, but honestly, I have to listen to their garbage music and their endless drunken rambling, I think they can handle some loud noise for a couple hours a day.
While the cops haven't come, I've had to manager of my place come and check if everything is okay.

Yeah, the cops can't even do anything about a loud noise complaint. The most they can do is tell you to turn it down. Then, after they leave, you can turn it right back up. Not saying you should, but they totally can't do a thing about it. I have a friend that's a cop, and had a neighbor that loved blasting his rap music while sitting in his car, in the driveway, ALL day. All the cops could do was ask him to turn it down. Didn't last long.
Gunfire sounds are a different story, though. They probably stormed into that Denmark apartment with guns drawn.

i dont think its that funny. the neighbor is an f*in idiot. did they only hear a few gunshots? what did they think that there was a full scale war in that apartment. the part that pisses me off is that the cops searched the house. you would think cops could tell the difference between real gunshots and a videogame.

its probably MORE likely to happen with a movie. although i guess gamers like their volume up higher

It was probably at an unhealthy level if it caused this much attention. Sure it sounds cool and all, but successive and prolonged exposure can seriously be harmful to the ears. But that neighbor was an idiot for calling it in as well. I'd just knock on their door and tell them off myself.
