For those of you who just can't get enough of the land of Albion, the Fable II Knothole Island downloadable content is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. We suppose that we should add that the DLC is only for those who can't get enough of Albion and have ten bucks to spare though, as the new content will cost you 800 Microsoft Points. The content contains new achievements, a brand new island to explore and a special Resurrection Shrine.
A quick note of clarification: there is also a "free" Knothole Island download available, but it's not what you think. The free download will only allow players without the DLC to play co-op with players that have purchased it. And no, you can't download the free DLC and play the new content with someone who purchased the premium version. You can still play co-op with someone who has it, but you'll have to purchase the premium version in order to visit Knothole Island together.
Quickie addendum: It looks like the free DLC does come with some free goodies. You can get them from Gordon the submariner (no, really) in the Bowerstone Market docks.

I'm so confused about this free knothole download...so, I have to download this to play with someone who has the Knothole DLC if I don't have the DLC. Why? If it's not letting me play in Knothole, what exactly is it adding? Why would I have to download anything if we're not going to be playing the Knothole DLC at all? I'll admit, I'm not very far into Fable 2, so I might be missing the point, but it seems like something that a patch could handle rather than making people download DLC that seemingly does nothing

It's adding the ability to play in Knothole Island with someone who has it. How else are you going to have the maps on your system?
Apparently there is also some stuff to get from the guy in the submarine even if you don't buy the DLC

The story specifically says that the free DLC does not let you play on Knothole Island with someone who owns the paid DLC.
Yes, I see that it adds some new items, but really, the free DLC is the same size as the paid DLC. I ask again, why is a 500+ meg download needed when you can't play on Knothole Island. It appears that you are downloading the same thing as the paid DLC owners, just not getting access to it, it just seems very odd to me.

@superbagman,
Re-read the story, specifically this part: "The free download will only allow players without the DLC to play co-op with players that have purchased it."
It is exactly as Master Bruce says, the free DLC exists to allow co-op on Knothole Island between those who purchase the premium DLC and those who do not.

AoE, you selectively pointed out part of the story, and missed the part that says that you can't play on Knothole: "And no, you can't download the free DLC and play the new content with someone who purchased the premium version. You can still play co-op with someone who has it, but you'll have to purchase the premium version in order to visit Knothole Island together."
You'll have to purchase the premium version in order to visit Knothole Island together. It's right there in black and white.

Yeah, some kind of patch is certainly necessary so when a premium purchaser brings the new stuff back from Knothole Isle, a free player's game would know how to handle it. (Hmm, can you gift these items to an orb of someone who hasn't downloaded the content?)
But one would think the bulk of the download would be the island itself, and if you can't go there, it doesn't seem just to clutter up your hard drive with half a gig of inaccessible content.
Sounds like lazy programming to me.
I wonder how long it'll be before someone figures out how to hack it to access the content from the free version, seeing how it's all downloaded...

I have to admit that it took me a while to get into Fable II but now I am really liking it. It has many flaws but it's a different kind of experience.
I am downloading the expansion right now but it is taking...forevvvvvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrrrr.

The DLC is pretty good. I enjoyed playing through it. DL'd at 7 am and finished it about 2 pm and that includes getting all the achievements. Worth the 10 bucks if you really enjoyed Fable 2.

not worth the 10 bucks to me, and i love the game. took me all of 2-3 hours to get all the achievements.
i guess if you throw in the extra new stuff like the potions and weapons, its cool. but seriously...can i have more than 3 freaking quests and badass armor for 10 bucks? took me all of 20 minutes to get all the items in the magical mystery shop thingy. and that's cause i had to travel back to oakfield for a couple things i didn't have in my inventory.
not nearly as much fun as i'd hoped it would be.
the only thing left at the island for me is maybe a couple of weapons and buy a few potions if i want them.
SPOILER ALERT: the one other upside is the ability to remove augments from weapons if you change your mind. and there are a ton of new augments on the island, but again...i never use augments. why would i when i use the Daichi and The Enforcer?

Well DLC is nice and all but serious its a slap in the face to all the people raging on 1up and all the other gaming sites about the freezes who have been unable to play it.
Worst of all is all those (I think only in PAL regions) with the latest HDMI version of the 360 who can't load a save game, you know, ever.
Still it must be nice to be able to play it. :(

I did find the nice Easter Egg- looks like an homage to the programmers.
I still can't find volumes 2 and 10 of the island books. Any halp??
