Kentaro Yoshida, one of Q-Games' studio directors, has confirmed in an interview with GamaSutra that a new PixelJunk game will be with us soon. Sooner than we'd anticipated, in fact. Yoshida says that "a new team has started in on the next PixelJunk project. We have not yet begun publicizing the game, but it is on schedule to be released in early 2009." That's now!
It seems that the game that was announced at GDC 2008, PixelJunk Dungeons, will not be the fourth in the series. It requires more development time and, as a result, will be released at some point after PixelJunk 4. Whatever that may be. Yoshida also states that "2D graphics have been a hallmark of the series so far, but we are looking to incorporate 3D graphics and take the series in new directions." An exciting prospect. Hopefully a 3D PixelJunk will retain the charm of the 2D versions.

I think I read something about series 2 of PixelJunk being 3D a while back.
Wasn't their take on it going to be something like 3D with a PS1 style poly count, but high res textures?
Can't wait for PixelJunk dungeons, I hope it still comes out some time this year.

We don't know anything other than the name. It wasn't even properly "announced," just mentioned during interviews at GDC about PixelJunk Eden.

seeing what they've done already, if they create some sort of dungeon crawler... I think I might pee my pants... and I'm not even much of a Diablo fan. It's just that I'm sure they could make it into something that is incredible and very original.
I'm super super excited to hear what they have in store for us.

Hell, I'd even be happy with another updated to PJM.

God with this, Noby Noby Boy, Flower, and Fat Princess can we officially say that the PSN is the best place to get downloadable games not only this spring, but ever?

The only big thing we're missing that I can think of is Braid... we kow for sure Blow is working on a PC port, so we can at least play it there sometime this year, but I read that he's looking into PSN as well.
But dude, I totally agree with you... I've spent well over a hundred bucks in the PSN Store... it's like an addiction. So much of my time has been spent playing PSN games, probably more so than Blu-Ray games.

All I can hope for is PJ Monsters 2 - with four player, on huge maps, and some sort of creature that travels under the ground, like the Graploids (spelling?)

Big 2nd. I'd buy it. This is why I'm anxiously waiting for Savage Moon to hit the US store.

PJM was so awesome, I don't know why they don't do an encore, to encore. I mean just get another team to put out new maps and people would buy it.

I'd prefer if they'd stick with 2D but I guess if the game is fun, it doesn't really matters.
