Red Alert 3 'Ultimate Edition' coming to PS3

The EA Store now has a listing for Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition for PS3. The publisher had previously announced that the PS3 version would utilize the "high-defness of Blu-ray" and now, comrades, we have a better idea of what that means.

The Ultimate Edition, which currently doesn't have a release date, features bloopers, new battleground maps, developer strategy videos and behind-the-scenes footage. The game's soundtrack will also be available, along with a "Unit Profiles video encyclopedia." The most titillating item on the disc is the "Girls of RA3" presented in full "HD Blu-ray with enhanced visuals." That's, like, twice the Blu-rays. Sadly, if the controls are anything like the Xbox 360 version, no amount of special videos will prevent you from begging for a keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, I guess the article didn't mention PS3's k+b support since it would have spoiled the negative snarky comment, which is required at the end of any piece of news that might be seen as positive towards a Sony product. We have standards to uphold!

It'd be pretty awesome if Dawn of War 2, Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes and other cool RTS games all came to the PS3 with keyboard and mouse support. With the PS3 in third place, it really needs to play to its strengths.

Yeah, I wish I could afford a sweet rig to play games like this. I suppose I could sell my 360, gamecube, ps2, N64, and library of games to afford a nice computer.

Talk about misinformed. Computers can be upgraded and they can do other things. Consoles can't. Also, jeez talk about out of date on prices. A good gaming rig can be had for $600 or so. Hook it up to your 1080p TV and you're good to go.

@JWC, Considering that my comp is over 5 years old, it would probably be cheaper and more possible to buy a new one than to upgrade. Also, if I could afford a 1080p TV (I wouldn't get one that is less than 40" and high quality) I wouldn't be bitching about getting a nice computer.

fine, I'll do it the boring way:

1. Red Alert 3 will run on a toaster if you solder a couple of transistors to it - the game is actually a graphical step *backwards* from C+C3

2. A PC costs a bit more than a console, but you don't type up essays, do spreadsheets or browse the internet (fully) on a console. So you would have to have bought a PC anyway.

3. A PC that can max out all modern games (even Crysis) is only about £500.

My rig was £500 2.5 years ago, and unlike the PS3/360 it still plays games at 1080p with anti-aliasing.

4. PC games themselves are cheaper

5. Mods and custom content make unlimited entertainment for absolutely free (after the initial cost of the game). You can buy Half Life 2 for like five quid now, and get hundreds of total conversions free.

Well, like I said, if I sold all of my consoles and games, I would be able to afford that. Unfortunately, I don't have $600 lying around.

In any case, I'm sorry I ever started this thread; it shouldn't be anybody's business what I can and can't afford. My apologies.

I actually do play my PS3 at my computer desk. PS3, 360, cable box, and PC are all hooked up to the same HDTV.

I have to assume people have found various solutions to accessories like steering wheels and joysticks that would also work with keyboard/mouse.

If there was a special video in which Jessica Alba made a special guest appearance and took off all of her clothes, then I wouldn't care if I ever saw another mouse and/or keyboard ever again. Then again, I would be too busy with that video to bother with playing the game.

I should have phrased my original post more clearly. I find it funny that a company releasing a poorly received game would hype it up due to its Blu_rayzzz amazing grafix11!!!1. Come on - do you really think whatever scenes they are talking about will look THAT much better? How about rather than touting Blu-rays we mention a game's resolution. We are coming close to the end of physical media. Do you really think we will care how we get our 1080p then? I won't as long as I am getting it.

If you have been hanging around this site for any amount of time you will know that the FIRST rebuttal would be - "you don't own a PS3!!!", so I circumvented that whole argument by announcing it. I assure you it isn't to inflate my nets-ego.

Yeah, I have noticed that, but I still find it funny.

It somehow seems to make a lot of people think whatever they say about any of the consoles is irrefutable if they have the object in question. If someone is going to dispute your evidence (or lack thereof), saying you own the object shouldn't deter them (given, of course, that their argument had substance to begin with (which admittedly is quite a request for most people)). Hmmm, now I'm going in circles. Oh well. Carry on.

While it certainly doesn't make an argument bullet proof, but actually owning both systems does at least put a stamp of initial validity, don't you think?

We get mad when people trash a game and then learn they have never played it. I believe this carries over to consoles.

It can't be that hard to enable KB&M controls on the PS3. EA would be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't make it an option for this.

Considering it still has an ESRB rating for PS3 (not under the Ultimate Edition name) I'd say the PS3 gets it eventually.
