I'm glad that companies are taking advantage of the HDD on the PS3, but they do need to make it optional rather than mandatory.

I like partial HDD installs b/c it loads games faster than without it and takes more load off of the disc so I'm all for it. I have an 80GB HDD, so maybe I'm just spoiled with space, but believe me, if I didn't have the space, I would find a way to make a game, that I really wanted, fit.

I agree, Mo Fo ridiculous!

I have the 80gig with B/C and I have to delete games that I have purchased on PSN, then I have to delete games I hardly play anymore like Devil May Cry or Hot Shots to play new games sometimes. It's frustrating as hell.

Oh buy a new HDD and you'll be fine! Why should I have to do something like that!

I should just suck it up and do it, but it angers me.

@ vahdyx

What do you have on your 80GB that is taking up so much space that you can't get rid of?

If you have a bunch of music/videos you should try TVersity and stream it rather than have it there locally.

There is a folder that contains any partial game installs. You should delete any of those (some are GB's like Heavenly Sword or DMC4) that you don't play anymore or are ok with reinstalling at a later date...

(20 gb left on a 160 gb hard drive)

It's time for another hd pdate I guess, or mass deletion of old items.

I really prefer to install my games on the HDD, so I'm happy with this.

The reason is simple. Being an owner of the PS1&PS2, the lens on the PS hardwares are really weak. And I think they are the same on the PS3 too. My friend needed to send it to support cause his PS3 stopped reading Blu-Ray disc after one year and a few months had passed. And I've seen same similar posts on forums too.

So I think the install would be good for keeping the lens alive alot longer.
Because games which have a really big world(like GTA, Mercenaries), they really read alot and you can actually hear the lens moving back and forth alot.

The solution to a poor optical drive shouldn't be to install the game to the hard drive, it should be to make a better optical drive.

Well, if you want the price of the PS3 to go up again, yeah that might be possible.

And I'll add, its impossible to put a better drive on the PS3 without increasing the price, if you thought of saying "put a better drive without increasing the price or even drop it".

Why wouldn't he have a hdd on his PS3, they all come with at least 40GB now. But with games like this, soon a person will only be able to afford to have 20 game installs without having any other functionality of the PS3, it's a bit absurd.

Good thing I do not like this game... Hope Killzone2 does not have a large install.

Killzone 2 will not have an install, they already said it. But it seems the installs are getting smaller and smaller and as the developers learn how to use the PS3 even better they'll just rid of them.

I have a 40gb and about 16gb of space left...but don't feel like spending money for a harddrive just yet

We should feel lucky we have the choice to upgrade past 120GB

Look, if your a PS3 fanboy, then installing games is old hat and not something to argue about. The only reason why Xbox doesn't have manditory installs is because they sell a version without a hard drive, I am sure game developers would love the performance boost that installing content to a HDD offers. And this doesn't come down to a Blu-ray vs DVD performance argument either. I would rather not wear out any optical drive (more likely to fail) then an HDD.

I actually wish Sony would either sell more AAA games on PSN, or allow FULL installations of Blu-ray games. Changing game discs is so last gen.

I need to do that sometime, but I'm spoiled with streaming my music/videos.

Though in-game XMB music doesn't work with streaming, so I may change my mind.

$109 is not bad at all... ~22ยข/GB (cheap!)

Anyways this doesnt bother me and shouldn't bother most of the gamers out there.

Didn't know people still played skateboarding games. I played the first one's demo and didnt really get why there's a black halo around the screen... seems like they made it even more pronounced here. Bah! last skateboarding game i really played was tony hawk two.

The effect of darkness around the image is called Vignetting, usually what happens when using a lens on a full frame sensor. The most popular types of lens in skate photography is the wide angle and fish-eye lens. Due to the massive curve in the shape of the lens, vignetting occurs. You'll see this in pretty much every skateboarding video. So it's not some fancy thing they did cause it looked cool, they were just trying to emulate the realism of the skateboarding scene.

No one should be upset by installs anymore because there is no reason not to upgrade your hard drive with a bigger one!
For about the price of a game you can upgrade your hard drive with one that's three times the size of your factory one.
Installing them is a piece of cake. You will at least want a 1 gig flash drive to back up your game saves to install on the new hard drive.
The directions are right in your owners manuals on how to do it.

I'm getting this game, no question. I wouldn't care if it took up 20gb. The first Skate had a 2.5gb install, so its actually smaller this time.

If you have 10-20 games with data installs and you can't bear to delete any game data even temporarily maybe you should re-examine your life's priorities, seriously.
