A report from UK retailer GAME, citing Gfk-ChartTrack data, reveals that console sales doubled on the islands during 2008. Home console sales hit 10 million units last year, up from 4.7 million the prior year. The current next-gen install base is around 22 million units.
Of course, the Wii accounted for nearly half the sales during 2008, with a solid lead at 4.9 million units. The Xbox 360 and PS3 sold 3.2 and 1.9 million units, respectively. Although the Xbox 360 and PS3 should continue growing their install bases in the coming year, a recent report speculates that nearly half of Brits will have a Wii by the end of this year. We'd tell you what that number is, but we (including our very own Brit) always get confused by the differences between Britain, Great Britain, UK and Little Britain.

agree, console were next gen, games and everything feels a little stagnant from the prospective of NEXT GEN its not all about gfx's both console's are limited in their specs by todays standards (gamming wise).. when the 360 came out with HD type gfx it felt wow this is finally happening but xbox 360 and ps3 (and dont post that old line ps3 has massive untapped potient (yea like ps2)as im not convinced that anything from this generation of console will feel like it did when 360 first lunched. With world money troubles even MS will delay there next console for upto 2 more years. Sony 10 year life span well, sorry but that seems too long for a generation of hardware to compete agaist new techs...especially when u look at the weak video gpu in ps3, for a 10 year life span i would have hope for more future grunt from it - its limited in the overall next gen thing..Id love to see what we can hope for future gamming - its not all about GFx it needs some real clever physic processing - more intractive controllers. and more ways to exchange and intergrate games in with other activities....this is not just bashing the ps3, its just MS will more likely get a new console out before then, sony i cant see them wanting to jump back in after such a hard start for them....so quickly..
