"If you pick up a real trumpet and act like you're playing it, music will come out."

I tried this when I was in third grade, and all I got was fart noises!

So many twits.

Yo, I know many of you haven't actually played the game and therefore don't know what the hell you're talking about ("Must be a mindless waggle fest, fuck that!"), but to those of us who've actually tried this, this makes sense.

This isn't something I'd sit down for a while to play, but it embraces basic musical concepts - arpeggio, chords, timing, etc. - and would be useful in a classroom situation.

Of course, I've actually seen the game... so what the hell would I know? You folks who've never seen or tried the game, you're the educated ones.

It's not even a real game to be honest. It's more of a tech demo in the same vein of all the Wii branded games - Fit, Sports, Music & Play. I don't mean to belittle them or people who enjoy them but they are more like passive experiences and technical demonstrations about the capability of the controller. Wii Music & Wii Play are especially what I am talking about and to a lesser extent Sports and Play.

Nobody ever said it was a 'game' in the traditional sense - it still gets labeled as a game due to the fact that it's on a console, but not even Miyamoto called it a game.

I actually AM a middle school music teacher, and I haven't found a way to use Wii Music effectively. I think there's some great opportunities here for kids to try music without failing-- a foothold for interest in the instruments.

However, as an actual learning tool for say, reading music, I don't think it could be as helpful as Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Lips, Singstar, etc.

Yes, I know, that's not really playing music, real guitar is much harder, yada, yada, yada. The fact of the matter is, kids singing on those games are learning to match pitch, and kids playing the instruments are definitely learning rhythm.

On the other hand, if Nintendo wants to give me a free copy for my classroom, go for it!

It'd be time much better spent than playing guitar hero.

And it's sold a million+ -- you guys should be embarrassed calling its sales "struggling".
