Wii Rock Band music store launches
The Rock Band music store is now open for business on Wii. The store (Xbox 360 version pictured) launched today with 50 songs, including Rock Band 2's 20 free bonus tracks. Harmonix notes in the Rock Band forums that more DLC will be released in the coming weeks to "catch Wii users up with other systems."
A list of the released tracks can be found after the break. The free tracks are in bold and the premium songs are 200 Wii Points ($2) each. Welcome to 2007, Wii.

Well, they were in 1998 before, so it is an improvement!

More like 2001, that's when the Gamecube came out.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, A Wurr? My Burr) @ Jan 13th 2009 6:38PM
well Alexander, you have to release that the Wii can't do DLC without a hard drive, so Harmonix had to contact their local Wizards Club to cast some sort of Occult spell on the system to get it to work. Thats why it took so long.
Or it could be they rushed the first out the door...
Haggard @ Jan 13th 2009 6:47PM
Interesting selection.. do you think these are the DLC team's all-time favourites then?
I know Harmonix like Rush but they should have done Limelight first :D
Slippage @ Jan 13th 2009 6:52PM
I'd bet most downloaded songs from the 360/PS3. That'd be the only reason I could figure for the crue song.
Danny @ Jan 13th 2009 7:20PM
My opinion is Harmonix's idea to release the game one system at a time was stupid, and the music store wasn't even ready! How hard is it to make a game that saves songs to an SD card Guitar hero did it! But I heard a Disturbed song is on it's music store, I might be hooked. ;)

Danny @ Jan 13th 2009 8:04PM
Ok one I am very good with spell checkng and two that's my site that I work hard on so how bout some respect? Also tell me that's not the fastest way to get GH cheats! (espeially with an itouch...) and I proofread most of my work.

please be joking
Danny @ Jan 13th 2009 10:56PM
Why be joking?
T @ Jan 14th 2009 10:14AM
It's tough for anybody to take your opinions about RB vs. GH with any credibility when you tag your posts with a GH fansite.

Danny @ Jan 14th 2009 5:24PM
I actually don't have anything against Rock Band I am not a one sided person. Actually i'm considering adding RB cheats to my website as well (Now that I have cheats for every GH game on every console.)
TheKarmaPolice @ Jan 15th 2009 10:59AM
Yeah well my website has the cheats for all Guitar Hero games AND Rock Band, beat that

Remember, this time it was Harmonix's fault. They claimed it couldn't be done, which was apparently true up until (!) Guitar Hero decided to do it. Then all of a sudden the impossible became possible
Haggard @ Jan 13th 2009 7:21PM
Probably required newer infrastructure on Nintendo's firmware too.
Danny @ Jan 13th 2009 7:24PM
Then Harmonix realized there was no excuse for cheapening out on Wii. Still their peripherals suck, if I buy it I will use my world tour drums guitar and mic.
Blue_Falcon @ Jan 13th 2009 7:16PM
# Serj Tankian - "Beethoven's C***"
It didn't have the same appeal for the 360 and PS3, but something about playing a song with 'C***' in the title on a system called the Wii makes an easy bad joke set-up that I'm shocked no one has taken the time to make yet.
Gewurz Man got equipped with... XBox 360! @ Jan 13th 2009 7:33PM
Too little, too late. I've added an XBox to my home mostly because I wanted DLC, and I wanted it yesterday!
Aero @ Jan 13th 2009 7:48PM
So how songs fit on a 2GB SD card?
Danny @ Jan 13th 2009 8:05PM
A lot you'd be surprised, my guess is 30 at the least.
Ordeith @ Jan 13th 2009 9:29PM
30 - 60.
which is a problem. With imporing the RB1 songs plus the DLC I have on the 360 I am already storing over 80 songs.
The dream of having all the music selectable in game without swaping discs or memory cards is still broken on the Wii.
Seriously, for a $180 game get the $199 Xbox and add the $30 20GB HDD MS is selling and do it right. $230 is still less than a Wii and for so much more capable a system.
Haggard @ Jan 14th 2009 6:30PM
Plus, then you have an xbox.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 13th 2009 8:10PM
Unfair. They get 9 levels of difficulty (possibly 10 or 11), while we only get 7 (0-5 stars or 5 devil heads).
(The Award-Winning) dark_inchworm @ Jan 13th 2009 9:15PM
Note that the post says the screen grab is from the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band. Though I haven't used the music store in RB2 due to not owning the game, I have to assume that this particular screenshot, which has been floating around since the first game's music store was conceived, is indeed from the first game.
Not tryin' to be an ass, just helping out.
Scooter @ Jan 13th 2009 9:55PM
Joystiq will reuse the same pictures until Rock Band no longer releases DLC
KeenCommander @ Jan 13th 2009 8:20PM
Does this work with the GH3 controller? *checks infamous compatibility matrix* Sweetness, it does! In that case, I might pick up a copy and just play with the guitar...
rodjoh @ Jan 13th 2009 9:03PM
Downloading the 20 free tracks as we speak.
RB2 + GHWT = TOTAL WOOTNESS :D :D :D
(The Award-Winning) dark_inchworm @ Jan 13th 2009 9:18PM
I think damn near all of those 30 priced songs are available on the Track Pack compilations. If you like to have it all, as I do, why not go that route?
megapenguinx @ Jan 14th 2009 12:23PM
You can't play the track packs online, although it would save some memory
Mr. Bungo @ Jan 13th 2009 9:40PM
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. Rock Band seems like a perfect fit for the casual-friendly Wii (At a Christmas party last month, the main draw was playing the Rock Band 2 on the Wii). But with the technical limitations of no real storage, plus other Nintendo-dictated nonsense like friend codes and no discounted song packs, I wonder if that will keep Rock Band from being the runaway success it should be with the Wii crowd.
While I was actually very impressed with how much the Wii version looked and played like my 360 version, things like no working music store and no ability to add the RB1 songs definitely made the experience seem less "complete" on Nintendo's little white box.
Comparing song download figures between the three platforms could be be very intriguing in a few months.
Tegolin @ Jan 13th 2009 9:46PM
Are you HAPPY NOW????
arsil @ Jan 13th 2009 10:37PM
no
Danny @ Jan 13th 2009 10:58PM
Rock Band 2 + GHWT drums - the orange cymbol (removable) = awesomeness
Spike @ Jan 14th 2009 3:13PM
the orange cymbal can be used as a blue pad, it even makes a different sound in fills
Jestersage @ Jan 13th 2009 11:04PM
X Japan made me decide RB2 IS better. At least they know people are more interested in Japanese music then some random spanish/Italians.
hey, it's Hongcouver here.
zeldazeppelin @ Jan 14th 2009 11:43AM
yeah I agree X-Japan is amazing and so is Japanese music
Angryhead @ Jan 14th 2009 9:04AM
The song in the picture fits perfectly.
"...And Justice For All" (It's an awesome song too.)
KIMP @ Jan 14th 2009 3:45PM
Very cool that its finally happening as Activision has been doing it with Guitar Hero World Tour on the Wii the day it came out!
iliya @ Jan 19th 2009 11:18AM
A question;
If one were to download these songs and one only has Rock Band one for the Wii, would these work?
