Mega Man X should have ended with Mega Man X6. The Zero ending in that would have lead nicely into Mega Man Zero, imo.

Final Fantasy, I mean, what the heck is FFXII?
Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome game on many levels, it's just not Final Fantasy to me, at least not the main series or what it used to be, it feels much more like a spin-off.

So, that's when sequels are "enough" to me, when they turn it into a different game, but try to shamelessly(I dunno if I wrote this right XD) sell it under the same title.

Meteos. Not that crappy disney version, I want a real sequel. More Shiren would be awesome too. can't have enough roguelikes.

Sonic. I think if they made a 2.5 D remake (like Bionic Commando) of Sonic 2 it would go over big time and prove to be just as popular as the original games.

I don't mind sequels but they have to be well made if they want my money. For example, I love Mario Party, its great multiplayer fun, but ever since MP4 I didn't buy any new ones until MP8. Just didn't seem like anything was changing for the best.

I think once you get to the third game in the series, it's done. If a game is really, really fun then you can get away with doing it a second time, but please, God, you have to stop after that. I'll be lynched for saying so, but Zelda is just getting sad. Mario needs to go away for a while. Sonic should be killed off and left to Sega Genesis collections. And Final Fantasy, a series whose sole existence relies on trying new and different things, seems to be doing what other games are doing more than pushing the envelope (Final Fantasy XII just sucked. That game only got good reviews because it looked pretty.)

But that's just me. I happen to think that if a game is really good, I can just play it again. The fact that people buy crap with increasingly larger numbers on it indicates that people generally don't want innovation. C'est la vie.

But you know what I want? I want to play the first Magical Starsign, seeing as how the Magical Starsign we got in NA was a sequel. I also want the first Rocket Slime, since Rocket Slime in NA was really Rocket Slime 2.

I'm not going to lynch you for it, but I don't think Zelda is getting sad. On the contrary, unlike the FF games, or some other multi-installment RPGs, there are actually considerable gameplay differences from installment to installment.

That said, I do wish they (Nintendo) would come up with some brand new IPs. They do a good job of innovating on gameplay, even within existing franchises.

I'm a firm believer that the Legacy of Kain series is in dire need of a reboot.

I've always felt that games handle sequels much better than films or books. There have been so many disappointing sequels in the latter categories while game sequels tend to refine what was good about early iterations whilst (hopefully) getting rid of the bad.

I tend to get more excited for original games rather than sequels nowadays, but I would really love to see a Mario vs. Donkey Kong 3

Pokemon games are long over due, on ds you think they would have a little animation during battle ,basically the same as old days, and now they are coming out with some rediculous, pokemon dungeon crap.

But, when does a franchise just overstay its welcome?

When it's no longer any good/fun.

Any franchises you think need a reboot or should just plain go away?

Any ones that are no longer any good/fun.

When do you find a series has lost what it so great in the first place?

When it's no longer any good/fun.

Golden Sun needs a third installment on the DS.

But I think sequels definitely have gone too far when theres so many crappy spin-offs and new nuances added that it loses itself within itself.

Golden sun three is a must. I'm sort of addicted to the first two. :D
Hell, I'm trying to recreate the battle theme on Guitar hero world tour

Golden Sun indeed needs a reboot/sequel...... that is, if they can come up with a storyline that does justice to the first two (ie is just as great)
I'd hate it if they made a golden sun 3 just because of popular demand, which is less great then the first two....
I personally think that the DS could provide new, exciting elements to the game, like a different way to use psyenergy..... although I can imagine this going over the top (and turning into a draw-lines do-magic kind of game) very easily, and that would be a shame too.....
And yes, I realise that this is (nearly) impossible ;)

"______ of Mana" titles need to stop. At this point they're just ripping off people with nostalgic memories of Seiken Densetsu 2 and/or 3.

Oh come on, nobody wants a new Metroid 2D ? Metroid Prime Hunters was crappy (at least in solo), with all its repetition. I'm replaying the GBA metroids, and they are simply awesome. I want more of those !

While i can't comment on the quality of Hunters the rest of the prime games, while decent, didn't live up to the standards that the 2D games set.
