Killzone 2 a 'masterpiece' without collector's edition

Guerrilla Games has singled down your February 27th choices to just two: to buy or not to buy. The Killzone 2 developer is prepping a single, standard edition of the game, confirms PlayStation Blog's Jeff Rubenstein. "There is no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2," writes Rubenstein. "Guerrilla Games has put all of their effort into creating this masterpiece of a game, so we didn't actively pursue a CE."

Too bad, we were really hoping for another junior-sized helmet to replace the one that got stuck on kitty's head -- may he rest in peace ...

Although getting the helmet would be pretty kickass, I just want the game already! CE's are very rarely worth the extra 20+ bucks.

I'd buy the helmet just to get some balance in my living. It's all lopsided with the Spartan helmet on the left of my TV, my Gears Lancer above the TV, and nothing on the right. I feel like I'm on a sinking ship! Please! Throw me a life-helmet!

You mean like most highly acclaimed Nintendo/Sony games?

Sony and Nintendo(?) do release CEs, just not for almost every title like Microsoft...

Most of them are, but the MGS4 CE's were decent with the art book, making of Blu-ray, metal-faced box that holds the game and Blu-ray special, etc.

Looks like Konami actually thought about it more than "screw it, let's throw a grey bandana in the box and call it done".

I am REALLY hoping this is all they say it is. You have now entered the KILL ZONE! ...I just wanted to say that...

Does SCE do any collector's editions? None come to mind.

Yes, they actually do.

But this is something that Sony does, they often release the CEs after a while, that way they increase sales...

R2's launch CE isn't the norm, but the exception...

The first Killzone had a collectors edition, but it was only released in Europe.

No loss. There hasn't been a single worthwhile limited edition released this generation anyways. Steel cases and cardboard sleeves are cool, but MTV/Youtube style documentaries and digital art galleries, and 1/4 of the original score presented on DVD Video aren't enough to make me open my wallet.

Kinda hard to top DOOM 3 Xbox, with the original DOOM collection and all.

At least we know they have their priorities in order, can't wait to play it.

I actually use the lunch box from Fallout 3. Also, if I had 10 caps, a proximity sensor and a mine, I'd have a mean explosive.

Vault Boy stands on top of my 5 port switch above my Wii. I'm tempted to use the lunchbox, but I'm worried I'd scratch it.

Holy jeez I can't believe the PSN logo...it looks like it belongs to a piece of 90's vapor-ware. So ugly and inconsistent with Sony's other branding.

I've never really liked that. It started with R2 and LBP I believe. Looks hideous.

Blame it on Nintendo who started it with their "Only for Nintendo 64" label, and Microsoft who continued it with "Only on Xbox", those labels have always looked ugly :(

It is annoying Fenix, but at this stage of the game, Sony needs the average gamer to know that it is for the PS3 only. I don't really care, because I don't play the game box, nor look at it once I put the game in my PS3.

And yes, Nintendo has been doing this since the N64 days and of course MS followed suit with the Xbox.

I hate boxes that have extra plastic or metal that stick out like a sore thumb stacked next to my other games. I've started to avoid CE's for the most part, but mostly because the extras are pointless to me, and i don't play with toys anymore.

Nice to see they didn't bother with it for this game.

"Masterpiece of a game" Oh dear. I really hope it's a good game, but fuck me is that tempting fate. It's like saying "don't hate me becuase I'm beautiful," when it's very clear that there are many other things to despise about that person before you get to their looks.

It doesn't make sense to do a CE. It's not gonna sell units like that. Plus, it's only on the ps3... 500 grand in 2-3 weeks maybe??

Valkyria Chronicles sold upwards of 35k, to suggest a highly publicized FPS with unbelievably gorgeous visuals wouldn't crack 10k in three week is just silly.

The game will do just fine. If anything, the 4 million Resistance fans will eat it up.

I was so psyched for this game but now I don't see a point to buying it after hearing this terrible news. Seriously, why bother buying just a regular old game in a regular old plastic case?

CE's are pretty useless imo. You still get the game and whatever extras DVD's or whatever media that it comes with, I ca easily get off the internet. The metal boxes and cat helmets are a waist.

What does a CE matter for anyway? I usually don't care if I can't get a figurine, a making of cd, a music cd, artwork, or the rest when my interest is held by playing the game. Yeah, that stuff can be interesting-but it sure doesn't reflect on whether a game is awesome to play or not. Isn't playing the game what matters?
