LocoRoco 2: cheaper than the original game

Why is LocoRoco 2 so much cheaper than the original?
- A. It's so much better than the original game and they simply want more people to play it.
- B. They're begging you to please just stop pirating their games.

I go for option 3: typo. Watch the price skyrocket to $39.99 when they discover their error.
Courtney @ Jan 14th 2009 2:02PM
LocoRoco Combo Pack: Buy 1 and 2 together for only $64.95, save...wth?
Andrew Yoon @ Jan 14th 2009 2:03PM
No, it really is $19.99. Officially announced by Sony today.
Doug @ Jan 14th 2009 2:08PM
199.9?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jan 14th 2009 8:26PM
NUMBERS MOTHERFUCKER DO YOU READ IT
IanC @ Jan 14th 2009 2:08PM
Wait... LocoRoco 2 isn't out in the US yet? I got it a few days ago, in a bundle with a PSP 3000.
Andrew Yoon @ Jan 14th 2009 2:20PM
It came out in Europe first, then Japan. We're still waiting for our copies.
McBrick @ Jan 14th 2009 2:08PM
Kudos for being willing to find a price point that moves enough units to actually generate some profit. Not holding my breath for price cuts for console games, however.
Haggard @ Jan 14th 2009 2:54PM
Well we've actually already seen that here in the UK. A year ago, games were debuting at exactly £40 for console, £25 for PC. But now a lot of titles are opening at £30 on console (e.g. Gears 2, Prince of Persia).
Of course, poor sales mean some of them drop even lower.
McBrick @ Jan 14th 2009 3:19PM
And not just the ones at Woolworth's, eh? That's a good sign, I think. There may be some hope for us stateside, then, but I'm not ready to bet on it yet. £40 is quite a bit more than $60 so there may be more wiggle room on the price point in the UK. On the other hand, economic reality may force their hand.
Haggard @ Jan 14th 2009 6:27PM
Actually, £40 is currently about $58 (UK govt are keeping the pound weak to encourage exports.. plus I don't think can actually do anything to strengthen it).
So if you're thinking of importing a load of european games, now's the time.
thug_angel @ Jan 14th 2009 2:12PM
PSP is seriously struggling, they probably want everyone to play it..
Haggard @ Jan 14th 2009 2:17PM
PSP software is struggling.
It's one of the highest selling consoles.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Jan 14th 2009 2:25PM
I'm guessing its probably going to be released as a downloadable title at the same time and 19.99 for a full PSP game is an acceptable price.
$29.99 seems rather steep for DLC and putting the price point for a physical copy higher than the digital copy would probably stifle sales.
Archon @ Jan 14th 2009 2:34PM
It's already out on European PSN for weeks.
booticon @ Jan 14th 2009 2:25PM
Maybe the original is hard to find? When Katamari Damacy first came out on the PS2 it was $20 new, and a year back I bought it used for $24.99.
ducttapeBigSexy @ Jan 14th 2009 2:30PM
Are you thinking of We Love Katamari? Because I picked that up new for $30 about a year ago. I'm only thinking this because Katamari Damacy is $11 new on Amazon (http://tinyurl.com/8k3xjm)
booticon @ Jan 14th 2009 2:35PM
Nope, definitely the original. I picked it up at Gamestop (I know I know), but I do remember it being pretty hard to find for a while. Great game though.
required @ Jan 14th 2009 2:39PM
The original is available in the PSP store (under legacy UMD), so in other words it's already on everyones PSP, they just need to buy/download it.
Noshino @ Jan 14th 2009 2:25PM
Not really, I mean, after all, Papaton was released for that price as well.
Thing is, this is Sony's way of attracting more DS owners, both LocoRoco and Patapon (at a much lesser degree, lol) cater to both the hardcore and casual, not only because of the visuals but also because of the way the games are controlled. And since it is at a really good price, some will not overthink it and just buy it.
David @ Jan 14th 2009 3:29PM
I just bought Condemned 2: Bloodshot yesterday for $13.99. This is cheaper than when I bought Condemned 1: Criminal Origins.
j.howlett @ Jan 14th 2009 3:35PM
i saw it advertised for 9.99 along with turok and others
ScottG13 @ Jan 14th 2009 3:39PM
That's crazy. I'd like to pick up the original for about $10.
Hostile @ Jan 14th 2009 3:45PM
Bah. Just like with Lumines, I have played enough of the first game (the first and second in the case of Lumines) where I don't need to play it anymore.
psp1ace @ Jan 14th 2009 4:09PM
I'm playing LR2, right now. Piracy is awesome.
time @ Jan 14th 2009 4:21PM
not cool.
Dummy00001 @ Jan 14th 2009 4:57PM
if you like the game - then buy it.
people sometimes forget to vote for good games. and only way consumers may vote their approval is with their wallets.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 14th 2009 8:36PM
So you can't pay 20$?
Your PSP must be stolen or something.
Marek @ Jan 15th 2009 9:42AM
I think what he means is that the only way to play it now is to pirate the Euro/Japanese release.
The right thing to do would be to also buy the game when it is finally released in the US.
MuToiD_MaN @ Jan 14th 2009 4:14PM
Hooray! Almost time to dust off the PSP!
slycooper_rocker [patapon defence force] @ Jan 14th 2009 6:59PM
that day will come when patapon 2 is released.
acekrnz @ Jan 14th 2009 5:31PM
how can one not pirate.. when one has already accumulated through piracy before sale! MUAHAHAA. i might purchase it.
i bought the original, one of the first games i purchased. i own about 25 psp titles. i got sick of the shitty games, so i started downloading. but.. this is a good game after all and i love supporting devs.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 14th 2009 6:32PM
How can one NOT pirate? Simple, really.
10 GOTO STORE
20 PRINT "Here is my monies for this game, kind sir."
30 GIVE MONIES
40 GOTO HOME
50 PLAY LOCOROCO 2
Of course if you pirate, it gets even more basic...
10 DOWNLOAD TORRENT
20 GIGGLE AT IDIOCY
30 BITCH WHEN NO MORE GAMES COME OUT
Seriously, don't fucking steal games. YOU'RE the reason PSP as a console is dying. That is one of the problems PSP has. It IS a console aimed directly the hardcore technically savy gamer base. Which means, unlike those brain training fellows, you guys know HOW to do this stuff with ease. So the platform gets pirated to hell and back, games don't sell, developers pull out, and you fucking console killers stare around blankly trying to justify the death of the console with excuses like "game isn't good enough to pay for."
And then you wonder why Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all tag teamed Lik-Sangs ass into oblivion.
acekrnz @ Jan 27th 2009 10:13PM
my fault? http://www.flickr.com/photos/10823290@N08/3233250042/
amidoinitrite? thanks and good night. i FULLY support the psp, but they dont support me back.
Jacksons @ Jan 14th 2009 6:02PM
Fine by me. More software! We need more! MORE!
Lulu @ Jan 14th 2009 7:17PM
I noticed the game was cheaper when I preordered it the other day.
I probably wouldn't have preordered it if my mom hadn't pointed out that the game with the little yellow singing things is only $20.
Lee @ Jan 14th 2009 7:10PM
Not here. Over the weekend in GAME I saw LocoRoco 1 for £9.98 and 2 for £15. Which is still damn cheap for the 2 best PSP games.
caserb @ Jan 14th 2009 8:05PM
Already bought and have played the hell out of the European import copy of this game from Ebay, it cost just above 30 bucks with shipping, can't complain since I got it so much earlier than February.
Yay region-free Psp!!!
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 14th 2009 8:41PM
I'm not in a rush to get it but I would kill acekrnz and psp1ace in front of their mothers to get it, I would also pay the 20$ since I would have killed those aholes for free.
I say that Loco Roco is the only exclusive Sony Franchise that I see could some day be as important as Mario.
Cutty @ Jan 14th 2009 8:42PM
LocoRoco 2 is awesome. At only $20 it should be an essential purchase for every PSP owner.
