Okay, so the remake of Monster Hunter G isn't entirely a quick cash grab by Capcom as they work on Monster Hunter 3. Well, actually, it is, but it's a quick cash grab with online play, which seems a lot better. Monster Hunter G's online mode revolves around various quests given to players from their guild hall. They're about what we'd expect: kill this monster, get this item, etc. Groups of up to four can participate in the same quests, using equipment (traps, bombs) found within the quest to complete their objectives.
The game's quest-mode environments (or the real game) look much, much better than the in-town stuff we've seen, but MHG still looks exactly like the old Monster Hunter it is!

Monster Hunter wifi isn't fun if people are not in the same room. The same thing can be said about most MMORPGs (not that Monster Hunter is one), I've found in the past I enjoy these games more if there are people in the same room, shouting at each other when something goes wrong.

Wii Speak should improve the online experience at least(with friends, not randomers).

Not unless most of the people you'd play online with were complete jerks... I'd HATE for them to be in the same room.
...you see, I just mute the other players and just see them as picky NPCs. :P
...though it helps that I MMO with my gf in the same room.

The PS2 version had online play, too.
This port is exactly the same as the PS2 version, isn't it? The only addition is widescreen, right?

Actually, I would think Wii Speak WITHOUT friend codes could be a possibility, if the speculation is correct and that "big 2009" game that is coming out "online without friend codes" could be Monster Hunter 3. If it IS MH3, then there's no reason that MH:G would need to have friend codes for online either, is there? Sure, its not as anticipated as MH3, but its by the same company and all, so why couldn't it be online WITHOUT friend codes AND Wii Speak support? (Which is the way I hoped The Conduit would be, but alas...I hear it is not so, so far.)

I'd agree with you, but I've been reading alot about Iwata and his way of thinking recently, and allowing that would go totally against his philosophy.
No friend codes is one thing, but Wii Speak + no friend codes is a whole different matter for Iwata(and all the top at Nintendo). Remember that their philosophy for the console is one of a family room console. So their philosophy for online has to be suited to the family room. Thus, they will do everything in their power to prevent the kind of experience you get on XBox Live: http://bp3.blogger.com/_opQmE9u3cCY/SATQOIJ90OI/AAAAAAAABs8/Xr-rmBCnbCM/s400/internet_fuckwad.jpg

I don't know about that, Demotruk. Nintendo has already appeared to establish a message this console gen that anything can get onto the Wii, no matter how good OR bad it may be. And if a company does NOT use the WFC to get online, but their own online service (IE: EA Nation), they should be able to implement whatever they wish into the online game code. Unless you think that Wii Speak is something that Nintendo will only allow certain developers access to after meeting certain requirements? If they try to go that route, they'll KILL whatever online hopes that users of the Wii have had for Wii Speak up to this point.
