New playable FFXIII character revealed in latest V-Jump

This is a bit of a shocker, and at the same time all kinds of awesome. For one, Tetsuya Nomura breaks out of his comfort zone and makes a pretty cool non-androgynous, non-spiky-haired character for us to look at. Second, this new character has been given a name ... and not just a silly code name; a real FF name. You may call the new playable cast member Sazh Kalzroy.

So far, we know a few things about Sazh. He likes the color green, wields two pistol-like weapons and has a soft spot for Chocobos. Something tells us by that smarmy look on his face that this gent is a ladies man a la Balthier (FFXII). He's a very interesting character indeed; see more of him in the full V-Jump scan here.

maybe in the japanese one because they're less sensitive about it (see mr.popo and jynx).

he would probably be much less of a lawsuit magnet in localized versions though.

For some reason, I see that guy, and I am immediately more excited to play this game even more.

thank goodness for this character, i thought this was gonna be another final fantasy with just 3 playable characters. *final fantasy X-2 im looking at you* plus its a black dude ^_^ aint have one of those since barret.

i found it too hard to finish. every year during christmas break, i would try again to no avail. :(

I took one look at that picture and went "What the fark?" And where the hell are we connecting 'smarmy' and Balthier?

This guy, no freaking way, can be a Balthier. Maybe a Minty Fresh (see Christopher Moore), but not that.

I'm just happy we're bringing something a teeny bit different to a character this time. A big black guy with a thing for tiny chicabos..... >___> well, it's a bit interesting, I suppose. We'll see.

Agreed. Not only that, he has a mini-chocobo, and that smirk of his shows that he might be a comic or easygoing character.
In other words, he might be the most original FF character in recent years, and hell, he looks awesome.

Yeah maybe in your world buddy, so far in my book he is mediocre at best. Barret is a way better character and dresses better too, that dude looks like a joke

not to sound nit picky...but its chocobo

this character will contrast (not in a racist way ) with the other androgynous characters... i mean he will look out of place because he looks real and the hair is cosplayable...maybe this dude fits more in versus ( only change the cloths to black and white)

If this is true, things just got a whole lot more interesting.

I dunno, considering the last last black character Final Fantasy farted out, I wouldn't be surprised if this new guy's affinity for chocobos means he's never more than ten feet from a bucket of fried chocobo. And a watermelon.
