PSN's '17 million' statistic includes PS3, PSN, official forums

Neither Microsoft or Sony have anywhere near the amount of people _actually_ playing online as the numbers they flaunt. They both figure out how to tell us in the best-sounding way what their "numbers" are.

Sony folds all of its online gaming and web forum accounts services under one name, the "PSN," and then tells us that number, and we sort of assume (wrongly) they mean online gamers shooting things or playing Madden, because that's what 'PSN' used to mean.

Microsoft tells us numbers but won't discuss the breakdown of Silver accounts to Gold accounts, using the term LIVE pretty loosely. Correct me if I'm wrong but I recall reading that MS includes the temp 'weekend pass code' accounts that are started and ended within 48 hours using a trial period code.

Obviously, we're not getting all the facts... probably never will. I agree with Premature Ejaculation Man: It's funny PR spin.

Makes a person wonder if the Xbox Live accounts are those from the 360 or does it combine computer Live accounts? Not that it really matters. What, are there like 20 people who pay for multiplayer with their computers.

Actually, that makes me wonder if it is only Gold accounts (those that can participate in online multiplayer) or if it includes free Sliver accounts too.

I immediately thought about the 17 million users as if they were all Gold account holders. Makes my list of 92 friends seem pretty small compared to that. Yeah, MS, increase that 100 only shite.

Why are you always such an idiot? Did anyone really think that Sony wouldn't give out the most favorable numbers possible? It's the same thing as MS not breaking down Gold vs Silver accounts. And WTF does KZ2 have to do with any of this?

God, this has to be the most inane comment I've read on here all day, maybe even all week. You fanboys are so quick to crap on Sony, but Sony laid all the groundwork for your precious failure-prone console to even BE on the market. PS1 then PS2 paved the way. Microsoft just came in with great sloshing buckets of cash and did a me-too, like they always do (Zune/iPod, etc. etc.).

The saddest part is that they've created an entire generation of gamers that think it's acceptable to pay a tax to play online. The PC doesn't do this and neither does the Wii or PS3. Enjoy your ads, fellas.

I believe Lord Vesper got banned, and Gundam is the new account. Am I wrong? You are the same idiot saying the same stuff. I have a PSN account, and I do not nor have I ever owned a PS3. I had to create one to get access to Sony's retail rewards site.

What with how polished K2 appears to be, not to mention the fact that every last hands on with the game has been stellar (which is only part of what separates it from the game you like to compare it to, Haze), you'd think that you of all people would give it the benifit of the doubt.

The fact is, the only reason you say that this game will suck is because it's on the PS3, and you know that as well as the rest of us. The way I see it, a gamer shouldn't be whining because people like things that they don't. I don't like Halo 3 - I think it's overrated. Still a fun game, though, I'll acknowledge that. When I saw trailers, did I bitch about it? No. When I played the beta (ohmahgosh, actually having experience with a game you critique!? what a new and exciting idea) and wasn't too much into it, did I bitch about it? nah. When people rallied around the game, saying that it would be the best thing ever, did I bitch about it? No. When the game came out and still delivered the fun, did I bitch about it? Fuck no, because it's a great game, and I'm not going to let the fact that the only times I've ever gotten to play the 360 are with my friends at their houses get in the way of my judgements. I don't let bias cloud my judgement - that's not something a gamer should do. Period.

Isnt that the same thing for xbox live? i had to sign up once to xbox live to play a game that was registered for windows live. so xbox stats are cheating also... infact i have an xbox silver account just to play kane and lynch on the pc and also gears of war on pc

People posted the save revelation last time Sony released PSN stats, which is why no one should even pay attention to them touting their service's numbers.

A true gamer is someone that loves games and gaming - not just games and gaming on one system they blindly follow while hating on anything else. You box yourself off from a whole division of gaming just because of hate for some company, and that hate takes no consideration of the quality of games. It's bizarre.
