Sideshow is right, it was ridiculous. Tuned it on for a bit and didn't understand what the hell I was watching. From the emotionless presenters to the ridiculous music acts, that show was just pathetic.

It was fail.

I watched it for the very first time and my wife was one of the women accounted for in watching it (though she was making a scarf at the same time). Anyways, I am a Jack Black fan but after watching the beginning, I must say it got really stupid really fast. It seemed as if a 7th grader with acne and dandruff wrote the performance and skits.

Both my wife and I were pretty disgusted with the intro and the "Bed" scene with the consoles was the only thing that made me laugh... one time. Very crappy show. I would rather watch Sesame Street reruns rather than this. Or shark week.

In a related note, I recently found Kim Kardashian's gamertag

I blame spike's need to shove t&a into every show. I am not going to sit down with my wife to watch their game awards show when I know I'm gonna look like a jackass due to their need to act like 12 year olds just discovering women.

I'd love to watch a game awards show that didn't involve a)insulting me and every other gamer by assuming we can't look at anything thought provoking and b) making my wife look at gaming like its only full of perverts and losers.

Depends on the game and platform. Play Team Fortress 2 on the PC, and it's very rare to hear a kid.

Burnout Paradise on the 360 was mostly shrieking free too.

Play Halo 3 on the 360, and prepared to be called a n****r by someone who's balls clearly haven't dropped yet.

Note that the first two require quite a lot of teamwork, which is kryptonite to these howling little 'tards.

I blame Joystiq and the online media. I mean really why watch when Joystiq will give you a run thru of what occured.

Granted though that whoever did the whole "liveblogging" thing sucked hardcore. But it still provided the basics.

And then of course vids were posted online like immediately along with screenshots.

Seriously there was nothing about the awards show that made me feel bad for not watching it live.

Perhaps when they add a note of seriousness to the awards I'll care. Till then I'll continue to think of them as a joke.

An interesting point.

Spike TV is on pay cable. I am curious as to what the legal specifics are of "liveblogging" (I hate that word so much) a television show that is sold for a profit on the internet? I could see someone making the argument that it's a bit like taking a camera into a movie theatre. And it really does take the piss out of the thing.

Probably not that weird since the past years seemed so patronizing that some viewers didn't give this year a chance.

I mean, I know that's what happened to me.

This was the first VGA I was able to sit through a full hour of, and I don't think it was that much longer after I stopped watching, that's a plus.

But in all seriousness, I didn't think it was that bad, Jack Black brought some very needed life (first seen made me laugh, I'll admit) but it's still not so cool to see games that "mainstream".

Oh -- and Marisa Miller is fucking BANGIN'!

Also I would like to point out how inherently ridiculous it is to expect people who play a lot of video games to watch TV instead, especially something less entertaining, and when the information can be readily acquired on the internet.

I would have to say that maybe if they actualy, you know had awards instead of spending the whole time doing unfunny bits with Jack Black sucking off his new game and Kevin James doing the least funny skit I've seen, and thats saying something considering I've watched Saturday Night Live.

They spent at least 20 minutes doing those bad "skits" and wrapped up about 10 awards in one 5 minute segment. It was a joke.

Why is it down? Because last year's show was more about celebrity guess appearances then about the games and the nerds that make them.

If you want it to be taken seriously, get rid of the celebrity appearance, get rid of the bands, get rid of the categories no one cares about like best voice acting... because it'll just go to a celebrity.. and give us best shooter or best rpg and then maybe gamers will tune in.

As long as it's presented as a joke, it'll be treated as a joke.

I think best voice actor is a valid category. There was a story last year about how the guy who voiced Niko Bellic only got 100,000 (10,000?) dollars for his work. Voice acting is a valid form of acting that gets far too little credit

i turned to it for a little bit to see some world premier demos (dont remember which ones) but i only watched the first one and couldnt wait through all the horrible acts until the next one. it was just SOOOOO BAD. i know i'll probably give it another shot next year but it gets a short leash. if it annoys me at all, it's off.

Spike needs to realize that video games and gamers are a different industry and audience. Most years, this year especially, feel like Spike is being lazy and putting together a half-assed show for god knows what reason... for example the music acts and Jack Black, I mean what does Jack Black have to do with video games? What did any of the show besides the awards have to do with video games?

Spike needs to put forth some effort and stop trying to follow the standard awards show format with musical acts and such. For instance, next year hype up a big rematch between Soulja Boy and Totilo stuff like that is what gamers (at least me) are interested in - things that are relevant in the gaming community.

What, you don't want to see another random WWE match in the middle of the award show?

The problem is what would truly be an award show won't get ratings so they will never put it on air. I'd love to see various developers and such present the awards rather than Dane Cook, but Dane Cook (sadly enough) brings in their demographic. You know, the ones who enjoy Cops and "MANswers".
