Even though it fell into a casket when the Xbox 360 launched in 2005, the original Xbox still holds a special place in our heart. Hater's thoughts aside, Xbox had a pile of impressive software in its library that ultimately stands forgotten in time due to poor sales numbers. Don't believe us? Count how many of these studios have been either closed or are in financial trouble.
From Crimson Skies to Jet Set Radio Future, here are our picks for Ten Forgotten Games that Deserve a Sequel on the Xbox 360. Jump into the comments and tell us what games you'd like to see return to the current HD-era, such as honorable mentions: Metal Arms, MechAssault and Shenmue.

Ditto on that. Picked up both Otogi games years back and absolutely loved them.
I read that Ninja Blade could almost be described as a next gen Otogi, but i personally have yet to see much on it to know.

Yo Xav, great article!
I would love another go with Crimson Skies, Freedom Fighters, Psi-ops, and Metal Arms.
Quick question to the community: Does anyone else have a hard time going back to their XBOX games because of the lack of achievements?

Not at all. I still enjoy XBOX games its just a shame that more titles I have to play one the original Black Box like
TRON and Mech Assault...
I think achievements are overrated. Achivements should equal a free something not PRESTIGE...
Is that wrong?

I've been wanting a Freedom Fighters sequel for years now. One of my favorite games from last gen. Too bad Eidos gave us the sub par Kane and Lynch instead. Although slightly good as well considering it would have been horrible to see Freedom Fighters fall to such a level. Deathrow was great to, wish they'd come out with another. Seems like a sequel could be great as an XBLA game. Hmmmm...

Rallisport 2 - can't believe it was omitted. Easily one of the best xbox racing games and not backwards compatible. I haven't even heard of half of the games listed here.

I want a Conker Live and Reloaded remake on 360....i mean...they do own rare now.
Posted: Jan 15th 2009 8:13AM Gillfigno said
But...that was all ready a remake.
I think maybe it gets to the point where it's much easier and cheaper for a game company to have the player to go out buy a N64 or original Xbox, rather then the studio remake a game repeatedly just so it can be played on a current system.
I mean, what game do you think we're talking about here...Madden?

JSRF was a sort of sequel already to the dreamcasts Jet Grind Radio, both of which I played to death and would give anything to play an updated version...

Second Sight is much more deserving of a sequel than Psi-Ops.

"War-ri-ors... Come out to play-ay!"
The Warriors was the best $10 I ever spent on a video game. The great looks, feel and sound of the game made it one of the best movie-licensed adaptations the video game industry has ever seen. I continued to play this gut-busting game with friends well into the 360 next-gen era.
Rockstar wouldn't even have to worry about Roger Hill (a.k.a. Cyrus - "Can you dig iiiiiit!?") suing them for an appearance in a sequel because his character was killed off.

It's easy to praise unappreciated titles because they're always going to be around. Just like there will always be games that sell fantastically and get sequels whenever they deserve it all or not.
I'm all for people discovering lost treasures and/or basking in nostalgia, on a dime, like these kinds of posts, but it doesn't change the end result.

And that end result would be..?
That we're all going to die alone?
Yes, I too would be interested in an existential video game.
I nominate "The Stranger" as a source material. Mostly because an Arab seems to be an acceptable placeholder for a generic enemy in today's cultural climate. It would be a FPS, of course, and I imagine the prison sequence would be a lot like the "Library" level in Halo:Combat Evolved. Everyone knows there was no point to that either.

Dude, I was soooo sure Crimson Skies would get a 360 sequel. It was rumored as a launch game and heavily hinted at several times since then but the game in question turned out to be Dark Void.
This was a cool feature. In this age of sequel-itis it sucks we can't get more of the really good stuff like Panzer Dragoon and JSRF. Also think how different the world would be if they had made Freedom Fighters 2 instead of Kane and Lynch....there would probly be no Giant Bomb

I had a few of these on GC and loved them. I got crimson skies from the dimebin and play it on 360. Would love a purdy new sequel! CoC is an Eternal Darkness ripoff. If you haven't played that game yet go buy a GC it is worth it. Could see Eternal Darkness 2 on 360. Same folks who did too human. That game suffered because it was vaporware for so long. I can't wait for the Beyond Good and Evil sequel to come out. I don't know why that game was not on this list? Maybe because a sequel is in the works?
Posted: Jan 15th 2009 12:06AM (Unverified) said
wAyNe: Coc was not a Eternal Darkness ripoff. Coc is based on Lovecraft's Shadow over Innsmouth. Eternal Darkness is a Lovecraft ripoff. Coc was in development before Eternal Darkness was, and Coc mechanics (including sanity loss mechanics) were derived from the Call of Cthulhu RPG published in the 80's. The same game company (Chaosium) that licensed it to the makers of Coc. It's not a ripoff as it is a licensed adaptation, now Eternal Darkness is another story.

Although every person here was a kid when Jet Set Radio Future came out, I was a kid when Crimson Skies came out, and it SOOO definitely deserves a sequel.

Freedom Fighters was one of my favorite games and i think tomorrow i'll try and find it again. Thief Deadly Shadows was pretty awesome too, lol, and i'll pry see if i can find it as well. Id throw in Oddworld Stranger's Wrath too.
Great article. I'd really enjoy seeing more original posts like this from X3F.

Great multiplayer game structure... BLACK HAWK DOWN!! Terrible graphics, but my friends and I loved it.

Psychonauts was not exactly forgotten, but i think it needs to be mentioned. Maybe if Brutal Legends does well, double fine will work on a psychonauts sequel.
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath was also an awesome game. It was a very good combination of a platformer and a first person shooter.

Deathrow was release a year too early. If it had been a live title it would probably have done a lot better. I would love to see a XBLA remake of the game.

"Metal Arms: Glitch in the System" belongs at the top of any list of sleeper hits.
Especially regarding sequels--that game was totally set up for a series!

Crinson Skies is a must. I think they sold the rights to it. I was a concept PC, board game and minature game before Xbox. It was co-owned by another publishing company so that could be the issue.
How about Jade Empire??

One game alone stands above the rest
Kung-Fu Chaos
Best multiplayer pick up and play game ever!
Another X-Men Legends, Stubbs, Darkwatch, JSRF and Sudeki would be nice also.

Star Wars: Republic Commando. A great game that I and many others I know loved, I heard a sequel was in the works, but it seems canned.
I'm sure I heard of a Stubbs sequel, that must have been canned to.

I am totally in agreement with JSRF. A sequel would be wonderful.
I would also add a sequel to Jade Empire on to the list. I don't know how many actually played it, but I absolutely loved it. I think a second one would be great.

I would have included Strangers Wrath,Pariah,XIII and Advent Rising. I think even though Advents sales were far from stellar and the controls weren't all that great, the story was one of the best i've ever seen.

many hours of my life playing that game, and i
can't imagine some crazy achievements they

I kept wishing that Star Wars : Republic Commando would get a sequel - SW: RC- The Search for SEV. But alas it never happened. It wasn't a ground breaking game, but it was still a good squad based shooter that was set in the SW universe? Can you really go wrong?
