As with Mass Effect, BioWare's upcoming title, Dragon Age: Origins, will receive a prequel novel. Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne is written by David Gaider, senior writer at BioWare. He previously worked on Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate 2.
The book will be available starting March 3 and will cost $14.95. Looking at the book's back cover and the accompanying press release, there should be a rule about not being able to say something is "based on the hit video game" until, you know, the game is -- at a minimum -- released for purchase.

Novel is kind of nice, but I'm not interested in the whole reading thing. I'll just take the game.

I'm a sucker for Gaider's writing. Everything from Baldur's Gate characters to this novel. Sign me up, and anyone here that passes this up are only hurting themselves.

Now that the true origins are chronicled in novel form, can we drop it from the game's title?

Though its not Drew Karpynshah (sp?) who wrote the Mass Effect books and the Darth Bane books.. this sounds really intriguing. I know i'll pick it up right away when it is released in the coming months.

This is becoming standard practice for Bioware. I wish a few other game companies would do the same. Or at least just Bethesda. Some Fallout novels would be awesome.

I might check it out, psyched for Dragon Age as it is. Knights of the Old Republic had a good story albeit generic. Baldurs Gate 2 was even better, but he didn't write for the first so he didn't create my favorite characters (Minsc, Edwin, Montaron, Xzar). Neverwinter Nights... had a story? Whatever, I have a soft spot for fantasy genre pulp fictions.
