During an interview with The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, God of War creator David Jaffe said the game he was "most jealous" of was Metal Gear Solid 4. "To make a game of that scale and at that level of quality clearly took a whole hell of a lot of tenacity and vision," he explained.
We've hit some choppy waters with Mr. Jaffe in the past, so as part of our continuing efforts to smooth things over, we'd like to remind him of what he has that Kojima doesn't. For one, though the story in Jaffe's may be more limited in scope, it makes sense. Also? Swords on chains. Oh, and no monkeys crapping themselves. Big plus.

I think we ALL can agree that even the 10th best game in the world, Tekken 3, is better than MGS 4, in terms of design, story, and graphics. The chart cannot lie!

Wow. A Playstation developer complementing another Playstation developer's game. Big news there.
It'd be really big news if Jaffe actually said something nice about a game that isn't on Playsation. But he'd have to turn off douche mode first to do that.

Because praising MGS4 will totally make his own games sell more copies, right?

You mean like on his blog:
http://www.davidjaffe.biz/
Where on the home page he praises a game called "Crazy Machines" he got off Steam and says this about Gears of War 2: "Such an amazing game! Great execution, stunning graphics, and buttery smooth love on the gameplay. It just FEELS good to play this game. AMAZING job!"
He also praises Steam in general further down the page.
Perhaps if you actually took the time to even just glance at his blog instead of relying on the snippits sites like Joystiq pick out to stir up the fanboys you would realize he's not this crazy Sony obsessed asshole he's often made out to be. Sure, he's can certainly be outspoke and blunt at times, but so are half the people on this site and the internet in general.

I wouldn't call it an "overused joke". Skipping the cut-scenes, the game isn't even 3 hours long, and the actual gameplay isn't particularly enjoyable.
One of the best stories in a game, maybe, but I have strongly disagree with anyone who tries to label it as the best GAME ever.
And personally, I felt it was a little underwhelming, no where near as good as the first or third ones. The last boss fight is the only thing that really stood out to me as ridiculously awesome.

I dunno, guess it's matter of opinion, personally, alongside the likes of GTA4, Fable, LBP and a few others, I'd say it was one of my favourite games last year, I found the gameplay quite enjoyable, less humourous then other metal gears yes (MGS2 being the most humourous), but no less enjoyable to me.
I still enjoy playing it.

3 hours of game play? Even on my 4th play through in a speed run to unlock big boss mode, it was a good 4 hours. And people don't speed run through games to enjoy them. If you can't find at least 8 hours of enjoyment in MGS, it either simply isn't your cup of tea, or you aren't trying.
I couldn't bring myself to play Madden for 4 hours, but that is not a judgment on the game, it's a judgment of my tastes.

Wow... that's a pretty obscene exaggeration. It's will take pretty much everyone that plays it for the first time much longer than that. Now if you practice the game and plan your route ahead of time for a speed run, then yes, a few dedicated individuals can beat it very quickly. But such is true with many games when it comes to speed runs.

I can't put my finger on why, but... This is one of the most horrifying pictures for a post I've seen in ages...
Unfortunately I don't have experience with either series of game. I'm sure MGS is great and all, but I just know from what I've heard about the length of the cut scenes that I couldn't stomach sitting though them.

People like to use that to target mgs4, they know full well the cut scenes are skippable, they are just nitpicking.

So the story on MGS4 doesn't make sense?
Well, the only possible way the story wouldn't make any sense is if you're either stupid as a bucket of nails (apologies for the tired expression), or haven't played the games that came before it. I can't blame you for the former, but can certainly blame you for the latter.
In other words: Return of the King shouldn't be the first book you read in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I think you're stupid as a bucket of nails for thinking it actually works with all the other games. SEE HOW THAT WORKS when you're a judgemental asshole who assumes that your (non)taste should be shared by everyone else.

You know exactly what they mean. The story in MGS4 was a hopeless tangle of long meaningless dialogue, overly drawn out explanations with pathetic juvenile bastardizations of science that were too ridiculous for anyone who isn't as dumb as a bucket of nails to take seriously, which the game also did far too much of considering how ridiculous the plot and characters were.

Oh, so that means -wait for it... God of War, the Movie w/game elements!!
Seriously, I'm starting to think that some of these "high profile" developers wanted to do movies but were shunned. So, they make games instead.. Could this start another genre of "movie" games??
*Shivers*
Please no.. I play games to play games.. NOT sit thru a 20 minute cutscene!

Well you have a choice, become a developer and make your own games, or just don't buy the games with the cutscenes, and if every game starts becoming an interactive movie, I don't think you'll have much of a leg to stand on, you'll just have to take what you get.

The game is a cut scene.
When Sam Fisher first came on the scene, i forgot what a Metal Gear was. Jaffe is just giving credit where its due i guess.
Other than that, MGS might as well make use of all the space a BluRay disk has. Pffft. The Street Fighter style boss fight near/at the end was LOL. I mean, has no one played ONI for the PC?? What was that basic mini game about?

I think anyone would be jealous of the amount of time and money Kojima has to develop.
Thank you for finally admitting the MGS4 story is awful. MT. SNAKEMORE.

I love how Joystiq tried to take a cheap shot at MGS4. The story for MGS4 and the whole series makes sense for people who are smart enough to understand it. You frat boys and jock types just aren't smart enough to keep up with it because you spend so much time playing brainless games like Gears of War with scripts that sound like they were written by a 10 year old child.
